    About the weather sealing of the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. The lens has a seal around the mount, but no other weather sealing. In the video I'm saying there's no weather sealing, which is a mistake. I apologize and thank everybody who commented on that.

      How does that differ from the other weather sealed lenses from Panasonic and Olympus? Can this lens be safely used in rain and snow?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  4 года назад +2

      "Fully" weather sealed lenses have seals and gaskets in many places, not just around the mount. I can't promise it's safe use the lens in the rain.

    The lens is actually partly wheather-sealed, at the camera mount. I have it and can fully agree to your verdict, the image quality is great! And when I don't have a real macro lens in my bag, I can still take nice pictures of blossoms using the Sigma, which has a minimum distance of only 0.5 m. Also worth mentioning is the smooth focus drive, when using manual mode.

    • @mattisulanto

      It has a seal around the mount and if you look at very first pinned comment, you'll notice that I corrected it there. Very nice lens, Sigma is doing a good job here.

    The photos in this video looks fuzzy. I don`t know if it is because this video is in fullhd in 2019 and the photos are compressed to a lower rezolution, or the shutter speed was 1/30 or something. I have the same lenses on my Panasonic g9 and they are sharp as hell, but in this clip, the actual video is sharpper then the photos and it dosen`t make sense because they are 4 times bigger in rezolution...

    Have a nice day
    All Sigms of the Micro 4/3 series Contenporery are sealed against moisture and dust.
    here is the description:
    Compact, lightweight Sigma 56mm f / 1.4 DC DN Contenporery lens for micro 4/3 equipped with a 9-blade iris and an ultrasonic HSM autofocus motor. Corrects the amount and distortion of peripheral light. The optical design has 2 aspherical elements and one SLD element. Thanks to the SLDglass element, chromatic color aberration is eliminated. Rubber seal against dust and moisture. Filter diameter 55mm.

      The 16mm F1.4 and 56mm F1.4 have a rubber seal around the mount, but no other weather sealing. The 30mm F1.4 has no weather sealing. I have confirmed this from Sigma headquarters in Tokyo. Sigma website says: "Mount with dust- and splash-proof design with rubber sealing"

      I've done a tiny amount of shots comparing it to the leica 42.5mm f1.2. The sigma is noticeably sharper, cheaper, lighter, better balanced, stronger more realistic colors. The Leica is more pop magic, suitable portrait colors, VERY classy feel, better manual and auto focus. Having said that I would personally but the Sigma because it is more accurate, sharper and has an excellent manual focus ring.

    @sulantoblog At 2:08 you say that the image circle is APS-C. So is this lens truly f1.4 on a mft body, or is it effectively f1.9?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  5 лет назад +5

      The max aperture is f/1.4, that's a physical fact. Effectively the lens is like 112mm f/2.8 FF lens, but that has nothing to do with the image circle.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  5 лет назад +1

      Live bands and gigs can be difficult to photograph and a wide aperture fast lens would certainly help. The Sigma 56mm could be a good choice, but if you are close to the stage, something wider, like 15-20mm, could also be useful. Your current zoom is not the best tool for live shows.
