“Lest We Forget” is Sabaton’s mantra. I’m a 68 year old American Metal/Rock head biker dude and I cry every time and I sing along with the English subtitles. So don’t even think to apologize or be embarrassed your reaction to this was exactly what most who few this have, human emotions of loss, hope, love of all that have sacrificed because of war. Remembering those who have parishad in war we feel all the human emotions for those that can never feel again. Hopefully by remembering the past we will have a much better future, Lest We Forget is three of the most powerful words! God Bless and Rock On Stay Safe!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

The one motto I live by is “hate the war, but love the soldiers” they deserve every bit of respect, no matter the country.

They actually have two different versions of this song. This one (the Swedish version) is told from the point of view of a Swedish soldier. The other version (the English version "A Lifetime Of War") is told from a general, European point of view. Same song, two different stories told.

To start with i am swedish and sabaton fan. Love history! So interesting. To be honest Sweden fought many big wars against Russia and other countries back in year 1550-1809. Also against Poland,Germany and Denmark/Norway. Often it was war against all these countries at same time. In some way or another they made different unions against us. So so many young Swedish men was killed during this campaigns. Sweden was a real war nation through 400 years. Sweden was also a much bigger country too and expanded wide all around Baltic sea. It all ended when lost the last war against Russia 1809. After that last war long peace to now in time... Sabatons meaning in this song is to tell a story about all swedish soldiers that died in this multiple and genuinely horrible wars. Historians talk about 1 miljon swedish men killed. Its how Sabaton sing the text..." Went out for Sweden in battle... but never coming home "

What gets me are the conspripted at the age of 13 leaving their family to work the farm without him. Just to die in a fucking war among his equals for the sake of a king. The dudes who did that for us who live today, unbelievable. I wish more people went to museums/exhibitions and such and learned more what heroes we have. How much blood was spilled for kings. It was idiotic but due to that sacrifice we have what we have. I can't even...

First off, Your pronounciation of En Livstid I Krig was really good (A Swede here)
The english captions are horribly off. Here's a proper translation:
I look behind me and see my homestead disappear
My time at home now feels far too short
Merely a youth, barely a man, as I heed duty's call
If I'll ever see my home again, that I do not know
'mongst kinsmen from my village to battle I marched
    And the world burned
    'cause war, it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life, for my homeland
    But who's missing me?
    So picture me like this:
    A Husband, a Friend,
    Father and Son
    Who never returns home
    But who mourns for me?
Went to war for Sweden, got baptized in blood
Out there death awaits, not heroism
In fields where kinsmen fall, no song is heard
Facing our fates, one more time
Faaar, from hoooome (Be baptized & die in battle)
    And the world burned
    'cause war, it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life, for my homeland
    But who's missing me?
    So picture me like this:
    A Husband, a Friend,
    Father and Son
    Who never returns home
    But who mourns for me?
And when my time is at an end
    Who cares then?
    They fight on
Does soldier get a worthy end?
    Fall asleep
    Disappear
    And never wake up
    'cause war, it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life, for my homeland
    But who's missing me?
    So picture me like this:
    A Husband, a Friend,
    Father and Son
    Who never returns home
    But who mourns for me?
    'cause war, it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life, for my homeland
    But who's missing me?

The "official" translation is horrendous. The OPs translation here is much better, but it's far from perfect.
For example, lines like "But who's missing me?", "So picture me like this", "If I'll ever see my home again, that I do not know", "And when my time is at an end", and others like line 17, 18, 19, 21, and so forth. None of them are perfect. But they are much better than the original. There's also lots of superfluous commas.

This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life.
The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it.
This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it.
The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd).

It's not just the loss of our Great times which we often look back on. There is sincerity and a proper way they sing too, the choice of words. A hymn for everyone who has to go out there on a one way trip.
This song is fitting for what happens in Ukraine now. Many sons, friends and father will never come back.

I did meet Joakim the singer in a bar once, he was super friendly, the band is very friendly and humble even when they sell out giant stadiums.

I am a British Sabaton fan and I love this song so much as I have been very interested in military history, also listening to military veterans who served in the British Armed Forces as I had cousins who served in the British Army and the Royal Air Force during WW2. This song is not only remembering those who fought in wars in the past but it's also prevalent today especially for those who fight for Ukraine. Those brave heroic men and women who fight against Nazi Russia to free their country from a Tyrannical Dictatorship in Russia and the illegal invasion of a sovereign democratic country. Young Ukrainian men and women who have never held a gun not alone shot one give their lives for their country and democracy, Sabaton's EN LIVSTED I KRIG is very apt for those in Ukraine. War is never right as no one wins as millions are either killed or become destitute or have to leave their homes, country and become refugees in another country that is not their own. The worst thing of all Children are killed, seriously injured or become refugees in a foreign land now that really upsets me. Sabaton are the greatest band on earth as not only are they telling the story but it is anti war, and they tell these stories and teaching history but they are also saying that war is not the way to go. British Sabaton Fan 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

I was there and its always an emotional thing to sing a long with the guys! But En livstid i krig is special ...as im Swedish it is extra emotional with the Swedish lyric. We did it again twice for me this year as I saw them in my hometown Norrköping during the Swedish tour (may 3rd) and at Sabaton's own festival,Sabaton Open Air in their hometown Falun.U should really come to the festival, its awesome and u are welcome to join a sisterhood in their female fan club,Sabaton witches division.I met several witches at the festival from a lot of different countries.Music unites! This sisterhood started not only for the love of their music but also as a thing if a sister comes alone to a show, there is always sisters to hang out with. Not only for fun but also as a safety thing as u are always more safe together with other people.

A couple of firends of mine were there on that concert and they said it was just as amazing as you imagine and more, they said that the feeling of togetherness when they all sang together was undiscribable.
EDIT: The way this video is shot, with the audience as the center rather than from the audience pov centering on the band, shows how much the guys in Sabaton loves their fans and that's a beautiful thing.

I love this song, it swells within me as an American patriot thinking of all of our patriot heroes from this country who have fallen through the ages to protect our freedom here. Thank you for this so beautiful reaction it tells me even more about the kind depths of your heart and soul and if I could I’d give you a hug. See you around soon sweet Biss and be well! 🤗

What makes this even deeper is the "it could have been me" undertone in the audience singing.
The Thirty Years War this tells about indeed lasted for thirty years and left a deep wound to collective Swedish society.
As the war kept going and going younger and younger men were drafted and many women had to first give their husbands and then their children to the same war, never to be heard about again.
And the audience knows that had they lived in different time, it could have been them.

This song is about the 30 years war, which was one of the most destructive wars in european history. Some regions in germany and poland lost up to a third of their population, mainly due to famine and disease.

Sabaton is there to hit you in the feelings in several videos, naming three here but they have several,
to hell and back, the song is about a hero returning home with PTSD and drug addiction from the opioids he was treated with.
No bullets fly, about a German fighter pilot escorting a damaged allied plane to safety through Germany during ww2.
Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce during Christmas in the trenches in 1914

First time watching you reacting to a video and what a reaction! I am swedish and I love Sabaton especially this song makes me feel so proud of being swedish. I have seen so many reactions of this video and I can honestly say that the most reactors get the exact same reaction that you did. And I still get the same reaction every time I see this video. About the english captions, they are not very good at all unfortunatly. But Sabaton are so good the feelings that comes from inside your chest tells me most people get the message even if you don´t understand the language in this video. This live video is one of the best if not the best I have ever seen, And they sound so good live! And with 14000 fans singing along with every word it is epic! Thank you for a beautiful reaction! Love from Sweden! 🤘
