I have a Ruger LCR and I love it. Small, compact, and fast, super accurate at 30 yards. Bro revolvers are wicked, this from a CZ/Shadow Systems guy. If you can shoot a snub nose revolver accurate you can shoot most things very well.
15 year state cop here. I agree, these things are usually up close & nasty. I have been through 2 “encounters” in my career so far (knock on wood). The first was probably 1-2 yards and the second was about 5-6 yards. Agreed on the adrenaline dump too.

I have the 6-shot Kimber K6xs and I love it. I carry it around the neighborhood and when I go fishing. At 17 ounces it's comfortable to carry in the pocket or IWB and it has a great trigger.
Finally a revolver lol. Great video bro 👍. I've been thinking about getting a small 38 for carry or back up. I have a few full size 357 but there to big to EDC I think. Love to see more revolver content in the future 🙌
I have a S&W 351c, With 7 rounds of 22mag it weighs only 12oz, and has a better front sight than the standard J frames. It's not my primary carry but I love it and it's fairly affordable on ammo.
Put some nice Underwood Extreme Defenders in that puppy and you're good to go. Love my SW-Airweight and Bodyguard revolvers. Good video SPN keep up the good work.
There's nothing like a snubbie. Conceals better than a similar sized automatic and won't fail to fire if you get a wonky grip. I also like that a holster is optional with a DAO pistol, something I would never do with a Glock. I do not like .38 out of a lightweight revolver however, just too much recoil. Lipseys is going to drop an upgraded .32 j frame in February. I'm hoping to get one to replace my g42. The .32 is much easier to shoot and you get an additional round.
What's wrong with the G42? I also saw the Lipsey Ultimate Carry and it has definitely got me curious. The .32 H&R is ridiculously expensive though, almost a dollar a shot. I'd rather a .38 just for the ammo. I was considering the 442 Ultimate Carry.
@@TeddyBear-lb9ho the g42 is fine, it's just my hands are too large for it which can sometimes cause malfunctions. The cost of .32 sucks but that won't dissuade me. There are too many advantages to a .32 chambering in a snub. I've got a .22lr j frame to train on and I'll eventually start reloading the .32 anyway. Its also just a niche carry gun so I don't feel the need to stack 10k rounds of .32. Ive had an LCR in .38 and I don't want to shoot .38 out of a sub 20oz gun and I really hate having only 5 shots.
@@TeddyBear-lb9ho that's the beauty with a snub. I can change out grips as needed. I do however have smaller grips on it, the difference with the snub is that no matter how bad I grip the gun it will still fire, whereas the Glock 42 can malfunction if my grip is messed up.
You may want to up the size of caliber for bear. .454 Casull, .460, .480, maybe 10mm... .357 isn't a good choice for bear defense. .44 mag is as low as I'd go honestly.
@@fat_biscuits3928 the bear in the area I got don’t get that big. I’ve only found scat from them in all my years. Those calibers are great but extra weight to haul around when in reality I’ll probably never need it. But I’ll have it.
I just got a wood grip for mine with a 3rd finger spot at the bottom. Pretty nice and only makes the grip a hair longer, also I have a Wilson combat trigger spring kit in mine it lightens the pull by about 1/2. Very cheap upgrades make a big difference
My 1 is my SW 442... great 2nd or 3rd for sure. I've spent a lit of mornings dry firing it with snap caps and I'm acceptable at 3 ish yards with it... but I don't have any illusions it would ever be more than a contact/arms reach gun for me... but its fantastic in a coat pocket when my Glock is under layers of clothes.
Love my LCR. Really light, accurate as the one pulling the trigger. Put a XS Big Dot front sight on. That long trigger pull ain't all bad. Probably why I like Kahrs, too.
I'm right there with you. To me the xs big dot is a must. Big improvement over the black blade. Speed loader is handy and fun to try and get fast reloads with.
The Safariland 25 pocket holster is a great and comfortable option for a J frame. I carry my 442 in one everyday. However, it does not have the retention of a kydex holster, so if you're crawling around a lot or getting in awkward positions at work etc. it may not be the best choice for that application.
Biggest difference between shooting a revolver vs semi auto:: Revolver you lift your finger completely off the trigger after every shot Semis u just reset no need to loft finger off
Waiting for the Diamondback SDR to become available- may add to my rotation. My most often EDC is a S&W 360PD loaded with .357 rounds. Not a range gun but so easy to carry due to size & weight. Can still easily hit a 4' target at 30 feet. Recoil is attention- getting with magnum rounds but in an adrenaline filled and stressful self defense situation, it works well. If I'm going downtown, I generally opt for one of my higher capacity 9mm semi autos in an OWB holster and stick an LCP Max in my pocket.
I had the same exact air weight (was given to me) traded it and a PPKs for 2 kahr cm9/cm45 and carried those for a year a piece then the shield came out! Capacity and placement is my motto! Revolvers not so much
I often carry my 856 snub and I love it. I have tried the 642 and I will eventually buy one. Fair warning to anyone who hasn’t fired this firearm. The shock to your hands from this gun is brutal, especially when using +p ammo. Don’t get me wrong, the 642 is truly a fantastic firearm for concealed carry but it is a mother ** when spending time at the range getting good.
In my humble opinion, capacity is. It as important as skill diet and having a reload or tow on hand. My only issue currently with .38 Special wheel guns is primarily a very limited variety of what is proven to be good defensive ammo in my area, or 148 grain wadcutters. Sights on the Js suck however, the recent Lipsey’s edition seems to suggest there might even be an industry to help those of us with older guns. Incidentally $300 is a bargain. I use DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster form my steel frames.
for pocket carry self defense, snubs are a bit out of touch compared to the size and reliability of modern semi automatics like the LCP Max or P365. For a range day or a day in the woods shooting, revolvers are some of the most fun guns to shoot.
I own only two revolvers- A S&W 357 Magnum which I use for hunting and the S&W Airweight - the exact same in this video which I use as a backup, typically housed in an ankle holster. The trigger pull is heavy to say the least. There's a learning curve involved. Obviously it's for up close and personal encounters using point and shoot vs aim and shoot. It's very important to land first shots. That's the first rule in a gunfight-- which won't be happening with this gun.
So you often speak of power or ammo selection. The old guys that are really the experts on these guns are pretty much all running wadcutters. That's mostly going to be federal gold medal match or ga arms. Look into it. These are great guns in the right situation.
