That makeup is just contemporary glam makeup that isn’t specific to a culture or region. There’s nothing “Latina” about it just because it’s on some light brown girls.
@@Andy-xx3tt that is very true. I’ve seen this style of makeup popular among my community, who are Mexican. I don’t blame this particular influencer in particular cause she’s just following a trend, but there are lots of other Latin countries and communities that probably don’t do this style so I agree it’s inaccurate for people to lump all Latinas together like this (which happens a lot because Mexican culture is seen as the standard for the Latin community from what I see that gets popular)
Kinda weird to say “making Latina makeup more brown girl friendly” when Latina women are brown and have worn this kinda makeup for years before it got trendy.
@Monica Ravichandran It's a tiny bit tone deaf. Don't sweat it though. It's okay to say "darker skin friendly" over and over again. I understand the look was high contrast and it's harder to do that on your complexion. Don't be afraid to flex your knowledge girl! We're all brown and brainy 🥰
Not every Latina has dark or caramel skin tho some of us are pale af like me and therefore not “brown” I prefer to call myself mestiza never brown because I’m not dark skinned
@Bodoque It's a hard topic to find consistency in. My sister is half black but you couldn't tell without a second look. But she's automatically black lol. But when it comes to us Latinas, "we can't all be brown". That's why I think it's easier to just say lighter or darker when it comes to complexion.

I was shocked at first too. But I gave her the benefit of doubt. I realized that it's the pale/light tan Latinas that get all the hype in this makeup look. @randomyoutubeuser9465 Ik, but Latinos also refer to themselves as brown. The person I tagged stated, "Brown is the term used to refer to desi people." Latinos do the same thing. I understand what she’s saying y’all, and it’s completely valid. It’s true that latinas on the internet are usually portrayed to look ONLY like Sophia Vergara or Alexa Demie. Usually that’s the quintessential “Latina” look everyone thinks of: black/ brown long straight hair, fair/slightly brown skin, full lips, intense eyes, and a full figure. Also calling it “Latina style makeup” is…. not accurate. Like you said, Latinas come in all skin colors, hair colors, and eye colors and what’s more, Latino isn’t all one culture either and the makeup styles that dominate each Latin American country vary.
Black isn’t a shade. Black is brown. I hate this modern ignorance people have. Black girls are BROWN GIRLS.
As a brown Latina I appreciate this 🥰
Kinda weird to say “making Latina makeup more brown girl friendly” when Latina women are brown and have worn this kinda makeup for years before it got trendy.
Please see the pinned comment lol
Not everyone sees the pinned comment and it could have easily been included in the video. I’m not trying to sound upset or anything just offering constructive criticism as how it can come across. I get that her thing is “ brown girl friendly” so she said it to use the phrase she uses on most of her videos and I know she didn’t mean to offend anyone. It’s just the internet at the end of the day 🤷🏽♂️

Latina makeup works amazing on Indian skin we kinda look similar and have similar features!! And just like them we also come in all shades❤
because they’re not mutually exclusive! there’s a bunch of indian communities (asian as a whole too) in the southeast of my country, but even in my area (we have more african and indigenous communities) asian people are very very common, asians seems pretty latino to me but i always forget foreigners completely separates us, we’re too mixed for our trends to fit only one race
I was shocked at first too. But I gave her the benefit of doubt. I realized that it's the pale/light tan Latinas that get all the hype in this makeup look. It goes to show that Brown means different things in different cultures. I hope this encourages us to support visibility of darker skin Latinas, including Afro-Latinas!

but the same goes for Indians and other South Asians. A good number of them are very pale too. The video should’ve been titled something along the lines of “Latina makeup on Indian/South Asian features” or “deeper skin tones”.

Well, other races are brown. Deal with it.
Good to know! I was insulted at first because where I’m from all non-black POC are referred to as ‘brown’ so it was frustrating to hear a fellow brown person invalidate our experience/title as brown girls

The Latina makeup doesn’t include eyeshadow. It’s either lashes w/ or without winged liner, and inner eye highlighter.
That’s not “Latina” makeup, that’s just glam Instagram makeup. Have you ever seen girls in Mariachi, or folklórico, marinera, and samba dancers? I’m mixed, and half brown. I don’t get making this look “brown girl friendly”.. it already is. I read your pinned comment I’m not referring to that, but why wouldn’t it be brown girl friendly? All you need to do to make it “brown girl friendly” is find your proper shade of products?..
I agree but there’s definitely things people with deeper complexions struggle with - shades, hair, different features, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, even finding the right shades to accoplish these looks are harder so that’s why I’m always saying brown girl friendly. I’m not saying the original look wasn’t, all I’m saying is I’m using the reference images and trying to that more brown girl friendly
@@makeupbymonicaa latina makeup has all sorts of shades even darker than your complexion, it just depended on the inspo picture you decided to use. @@kaelynn4744 yes however I’m referring to the fact that it is already brown girl friendly since latinas come in even darker tones/shades than her. Oh my gosh I did this makeup look at my quince!! You rocked it!
However, brown skinned latinas do exist-but they rarely get any praise or recognition online from their own community/ the internet as a whole. This is due to colorism obviously. So this makeup look is still nice to see bc it’s exactly that: brown girl friendly!
Btw this is also why Encanto was such a big deal, it showed the diversity of Latinos (Isabella and Dolores especially for their deeper skin tones and very curly hair)
Yea it’s honestly sad. Whenever someone says “I like Latinas” or “Latinas are beautiful” they’re only talking abt the pale ones. Which is why so many morena/ negra have a low self of confidence. We feel pressure to fit into the “copy-paste Latina” mold that we can’t fit bc our skin tone is darker 😭
I feel like people didn’t even try to understand why she said that or they’re too used to the colorism even thought she gave examples that were all lighter complected lol
