To be fair the wing mounting rails look about the same as every unrestored MK3 I've been intimate with 😆 Really nothing unusual, wing rail repair panels and full wing rails are readily available
Sticky stuff is probably a butyl sealant. Wayside Adhesives can supply either strips or caulk gun tubes.
