Love all the little ballet movements in the routine. Also, she does a full turn on the beam with ease where I see gymnasts today (2021), have the most difficulty with a simple full turn.
I'd overlooked this routine... didn't realize she was doing a better beam in 1992 than 1996! It was a shame her routine had to settle for silver since she couldn't really be properly awarded for her superior difficulty vis-a-vis Lysenko and Li, so I guess 96 was fitting redemption.
She had some minor mistakes in beam finals in 92 which is why she didn't win. While in 96 she had a perfect routine in finals. Yes her actual routine in 92 was better than 96 but her performance in beam finals itself was not as right on in 92 as 96, although it was still good.
Sorry Simone Biles does NOT compare to this! Shannon has it ALL on this event which is why she is the gold medalist on beam. Grace, beauty, artistic, extension, dance, details, hands, toes, difficulty, flexibility, hands down the best on beam of ALL time!!!
Don’t be sorry! I totally and utterly agree! Shannon has amazing grace, elegance, poise, form, execution, technique and is dynamic in every way. Her arms and legs go on for miles and she has total control. Simone struggles to do the basics. Does hard stuff but can’t point her toes and lacks any elegance. As a disclaimer, my opinions have nothing to do with race. Before anyone race baits!

The COP changed after 92 and her routine had to be changed. Steve and Shannon both preferred her mount here.
She was soo skinny and so solid! and still was until 2000 :)
