I know people like to make fun of TED talk because it is funny and sometimes right but damn, this is the kind of content I'm subscribed for
I'm a software engineer who has been focussed on AI for over forty years now. I think that the path you are on is very promising! If you can crack this coordinate transformation problem, it may directly shed light on how 'reference frames' (as conceived by Jeff Hawkins) work in human intelligence. And, if we could understand and build up from there, we could really be off to the races!
Do you think the development of AI is speeding up? And is it exponential? It just seems like so much stuff is happening now.
@@jimj2683 Speeding up? Definitely! Exponential? That's not completely clear, but many factors are converging (disparate research is becoming integrated, major hardware advances are still before us, geopolitical and economic forces are intensifying).
This is an outstanding presentation. I believe Dr. Chance is on the right track and look forward to what she will reveal in the future. My own background is in engineering: control theory, wavelets, machine learning, and navigation.
I read the title, and instantly images of Starship Troopers came to mind, except that the bugs were giant terminator robot bugs instead! But on watching the video, the logic to the process just makes so much sense, and seems so obvious with hindsight, that you just know that it is the way forward in these matters. Great video.
That's so interesting! Our crew recently filmed a project that aims to use AI models to decode whale communication. This would be groundbreaking since sperm whales have the biggest brain on earth, and understanding their complex behaviour could be game-changing for us. Could AI help us understand their complex behaviour, their complex sounds, and what they are doing in the deep sea? We're excited to see the outcome of this technology and confident that we will soon learn even more about the minds of sperm whales.

We'll most likely have AGI systems before we build these biologically inspired computers she describes. The simple answer is that autonomous agents will set out to find an optimal computing substrate. Biological brains seem appealing yet consider how prone they are to all sorts of problems (diseases, injuries, etc). I would assume the next best computational substrate is not necessarily mammalian-inspired but something far better.
This is where the slippery slope begins. I'm calling it.

This video isn’t a parody. The moon contains a huge insect colony with its own leaders. Do you remember Starship Troopers? That movie was designed as a metaphor of the intellectual conflict between insect philosophy, and human philosophy.
Insect societies raise baby insects which have been specifically bred to occupy a specific social role. Communists want to do the same thing with humans. Japan is in favor of this idea. There will be Japanese truck drivers who can do nothing else; Japanese cooks who can do nothing else; and Japanese garbage collectors who can do nothing else. It’s destiny!
In the “Transformer” movies, the military had become partners with giant transforming computers (displayed as humanoid robots) to protect the human race from insect domination.
The intent of the “Transformer” movies was to convince the public that only the military, in combination with giant computers, can defend earth from external threats like insects.
But the military wants to follow the insect tradition of raising babies who have been specifically bred for a job, and a social position. That’s why the D.O.D. has such a huge investment in human D.N.A. patents.
And that’s why all patents must be declared invalid. First of all, the D.O.D. doesn’t own a single pencil. All government property belongs to the taxpayer. And secondly, humans aren’t bred like farm animals. People choose a spouse for many reasons, and none of those reasons is a concern of the Pentagon.
Insect societies are inherently evil. Yes, they’re well planned. If you consider slavery and vicious military domination to be good planning.
I love AI but don't go down this route. Insect have their own role on ecosystem that we often overlook in foundation level

Despite this being an outstanding presentation that points out the incredible possibilities our digital devices can provide if working in a way an organic brain does, it is also a scary presentation. Why? Well, you know humans, don't you? 10 % of the population, the malicious actors, would find a way to use this new technology to start all kinds of nefarious activities harmful to the human race. So, I am jumping in excitement and shuddering in fear at the same time.

As wonderful and insightful as this knowledge sounds, this could be the key to the end of man. Imagine when our household robots, computers etc can predict our every next step? Imagine weaponizing these concepts into drones and killer machines? SKYNET in reality
Lets be honest they want better drones with lots of AI to fight more wars. We already have a decent google auto.

I’ve begun to imagine what a drone army would look like…. It’s kind of terrifying what is possible.

We skipped the part where we develop our own intelligence and went straight for replacing ourselves with infinitely more limited and boring replacements of ourselves who can only function by iterating on what already exists. It's maybe not the death of creativity, but it's the death of creativity as something celebrated and appreciated for what it really is.
And worst of all, the majority of people are stupid enough to lap it all up.
