This week we navigate the last of the tidal passages of the Discovery islands, ending with Whirlpool rapids! Although cruising guides and Navionic's notes indicate that it is possible to ride this rapid at anytime, we discovered that is indeed not the case! Stoked to be on the other side of the gateway to the beautiful Broughton Archipelago! Thanks for being here folks :)
The slow driveby of the rugged rock face with the ethereal musical overlay was everything! I may not be a sailor but I can appreciate the grandeur of our beautiful country. Thanks for having us along for the ride.
I just subscribed. So happy to find you and your tales of coastal adventuring. I'm new to sailing and dreaming of adventure. I'd love to hear more about your sailboat. Best to you both. Elsie
Awe, so happy you found us, Elsie! Welcome aboard! Uintah, is a 30ft Catalina. A simple sailboat that we've been learning on and fixing up steadily over the last three years! We've learned so much along the way. Let us know if you have any more questions, we love hearing from folks :)
Another great day of sailing with fantastic views and what better way of seeing this when you are down under than with these two adventures. Thanks again for sharing, see you next week.
My interest in the R2AK (Race to Alaska), from Port Townsend WA to Ketchikan AK, pulled your video up on youtube. Nice to see a slowed down closeup tour of the inside passage. Thanks so much.
Awh, awesome! Glad you enjoyed! We’re big R2AK fans as well! We were in Ketchikan this year when the first boats sailed in, was great! Been sailing the inside passage for the past four seasons and documenting the journey. Hope you enjoy our more recent episodes, cheers!
Interesting question about anchoring.. Do you guys have a segment on how boats anchor.. I've watched other boaties videos in the same area, the scenery is spectacular...
We haven't done a video dedicated to anchoring per say, but we do talk a great deal about it in most of our videos since it's definitely the most difficult aspect of cruising in these parts! Some examples.. ruclips.net/video/rV3LdCIAozA/видео.html In this video (towards the end) we chat in depth about anchoring in uncharted areas using alternative anchoring techniques. ruclips.net/video/PkcdUAjXYUI/видео.html This video we set up a 'fishermans mooring' to overnight in a deep fjord ruclips.net/video/aWw5tRxslcU/видео.html In this one we 'unsnag' our anchor at the head of a remote inlet.. Hope those are helpful, cheers!
Living in Juneau, Alaska and just stumbled on your channel. Nice episode and yes, those rapids can be quite fun! I've been down the inside passage twice as crew and I've boated here for 33 years. I currently own a nicely restored Catalina 27 and am retired so I visit a lot of places around Juneau. Looks like you're on a Catalina 30, which is a great little boat and pretty fast for their size! Lots of space for a 30' boat! I'll subscribe to your channel in a minute and I also have a channel under my name, Wade Rogers, with a lot of drone videos and some sailing vids as well.
Ahoy, that’s awesome! We love hearing from other folks out sailing this coast on similar boats, there’s a pretty great community of us out here! I bet you have heaps of information about your area you could share, we’re excited to make it up there & check it all out! Yes we have a Cat 30 tall rig, she’s pretty sporty and we enjoy how spacious it feels! We’ll sub & check out the footage on your channel as well! So glad you found us ☺️
@@AllisonandJamesSailing Thanks for the reply! Yeah, my Catalina 27 made it all the way from the California factory to Juneau Alaska in 1977, believe it or not! Must have been quite the adventure! I've owned it for 12 years now but it's the 2nd smallest sailboat I've sailed (I've crewed on 50' monohulls and 38' catamarans, etc). Hopefully we can meet up when you make it this far. My boat has some custom interior features that make it more like a larger boat, like a slide out cutting board, slide out cabinet drawers, two bunk extensions, a linear custom galley, a half enclosed cockpit, etc. I've enjoyed your vids so far, especially the info about the tides and how they come and go in those areas, the drone footage, and the high production value (I started doing video work in high school in the late 1970's 'back in the day'). That high prod value is what keeps me watching someone's channel. See you on the next video!
Nice. I am sailing from Victoria all the way to Ketchikan aboard a 13 foot sailboat with no motor for the R2AK 2025. Nice to see your vid even though your cheating using a motor :)
@@AllisonandJamesSailing In the R2AK we call the areas gates where you enter and exit the channels. First day of racing from Victoria everyone is trying to catch the gate at the entrance of the channel as the tired turns northward. I know I am going to do a lot of oaring for sure.
I was wondering a couple of things about your boat. We have the same boat type, and I was curious if you found the 16hp motor adequate to navigate the currents where you've been? Also as I've been thinking of replacing my engine due to an untimely watery death of the Universal M-25XP , and would like to know what type of transmission you have and if it is 2.5:1 or 2:1? Also the prop size and pitch? I know its a tall order and frankly some of those things are hard to find while in the water(the prop). Though if you know any of it, or all of it, I'd love to know so my boat can move again. I am looking at the Nanni 14.5 hp 2 cylinder.
Hey Allyn, we have a beta-marine 14hp coupled with a ZF 10M transmission that has a reduction ratio of 2.05:1. Not sure about the prop size or pitch off the top of my head but it’s a 2 blade prop. We’ve never had issues navigating the current, the trip up bute inlet we had 2knts against us and we’re still able to make 3knt/hr SOG at 1800rmp. I sent you a message on FB messenger that’s a bit more descriptive. Best of luck with you project and I’m sorry to hear about the untimely death of your M-25xp
We share your hatred 😅 Cruising to Alaska this year we sailed much more than we expected actually. There are routes you can take with more or less wind. The channels innermost have little wind but very calm seas offering good protection from gales slamming the coast. But after those pass you can pop out the outside route and easily sail your way North (Spring) or South (Summer). There are local mountain inflow/outflow winds to consider and lots of currents and big tides, keeps things v interesting!
You got it! Every drop is crafted from resilient natural ingredients that were born to weather our challenging Canadian conditions, combined with smooth water, which is naturally filtered through the limestone beneath Lake Winnipeg
The big beautiful trees that use to be everywhere? We highlight a nice one that's still standing in this vid. Bit of a sad story really, cheers! ruclips.net/video/Rl9clovgXhM/видео.html

Great video…so cool to see some of favourite spots through someone else’s eyes! SV Cariba
Aw, love that! It's difficult to do some of these places justice thru the eyes of a camera lens. So glad you get to experience it first hand :)
Amazing photography, especially the drone shots! SV Brooklyn PNW
Thanks so much for the positive feedback, that really means a lot! Hope to bump into SV Brooklyn out here soon, cheers!
Sooo beautiful ♥️♥️
Thank you for watching ♥️
The vibration coming off these edits is infectious ! Can I please have this too ?! 😊
Cheers, this was a fun edit to make! Thank you for digging it!
Nice video and music...
Thank you John! Really glad you enjoyed it
Love the Kiss t-shirt, I was just listening to Detroit Rock City lol. What a beautiful journey, be safe.
Haha cheers mate! The first 5 kiss records are total classics! Thanks for watching!!
Manhattans are 2:1 booze to vermouth with a splash of bitters and a cherry if you have all the ingredients......cheers!!!

you are suposed to add a marchino cherry to a manhattan I love your videos G
I guess that’s why they call it the cherry on top! Cheers Garth, I’ll pick some up went we’re in port next!
How did the drinks turn out??
They were very good! We are still unsure how to make a Manhattan, but all drinks taste good when you have ice for the first time in weeks!

Distilled in Gimli Manitoba?? Crown Royal

Do you sail all night or do you normally stop each night? We have looked into going to Alaska (from Poulsbo) but both need our sleep@
Lots of anchorages and too many logs in the water for our level of comfort with night sailing. We anchor each night :)
