Shooting the Full Moon with the Nikon COOLPIX P900

- Full moons-whether they’re Supermoons or not-make great subjects to photograph, and it's easier than ever to shoot the moon with the Nikon COOLPIX P900 and its built-in Moon Scene Mode.
The COOLPIX P900 has an 83x optical zoom which means it’s the equivalent focal length of 2000mm. Use the camera’s Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom that effectively doubles the reach-to a 4000mm equivalent! Want to get even closer? Enable the digital zoom and you’re up to the equivalent of an 8000mm lens.
The P900’s Vibration Reduction image stabilization means you can handhold the camera as you zoom into the moon. The lens is so powerful that zooming the camera in all the way means part of the moon will get cropped out-so you actually have to zoom out a little bit to get the entire moon in your shot.
In this video, I show you how to select the proper SCENE to take pictures of the moon with your Nikon P900 or P1000.

Used to love shooting the moon with my old Canon and 300mm Lens
I used to a bit with the Nikon but haven't for a while now. I just took it out of storage so I think the next clean night I'll try to get out with it.

Thanks for this video, I have a P900 (I must be a newer version one?? the screen on the back of mine has to be opened to see the view screen) and honestly , im just learning how to use this type of camera...

On the blurry video you also added the horizon setting, is this something you don’t think is a good addition to this setting any longer? Also a set up for time lapse on the P900 would be great. I have a 5D MII but this is great and light for moon shots, so just bought used and am excited to try out!
I've seen cool pictures of stars taken with this camera would that be on the same moon settings????

Is there a setting for video as mine doesn't focus on the moon ?
Just works for me for photography
any advice on focusing? my eyesight isnt the best...and struggling to get focus on the small monitor...my shots dont look as crisp as yours?
A steady tripod will help. You may also find it easier to look through the viewfinder instead of the back screen.
