in response to everyone complaining about the video length.. i'd sit through a video of over an hour if i had to just to find a solution. fungus gnats are the bane of my existence during cold months... definitely going to try this method. thank you!
Thank you for this awesome video! I have had fungus gnats for so long and I've tried every single homemade remedy there is. The gnats were everywhere. It was so bad that I even called in an exterminator to see if he can help, but he was honest and said there was nothing he can do for me. I was so frustrated that the next step was to just get rid of all my plants. I have close to 30 plants so you can imagine the infestation I had. I watched so many youtube videos then stumbled across your video. Well the very same day I ordered the neem cake from the website you recommended. I repotted each and every plant with fresh soil, sprinkled the neem cake on top and watered the plants with the neem tea. I do not water as much as I used to since overwatering the plants does attract the gnats. I think I might have put a little too much neem cake on the top soil since the soil looks a little moldy, but so far NO gnats!! I hope these little suckers never come back to haunt me again. I cannot thank you enough for putting your video out there and I am grateful I came across it! THANK YOU!! By the way I hope the smell of the neem cake goes away for it is not a pleasant smell. It hits you as soon as you walk into my house, but I'll take the smell over gnats flying around any day. My only question is how often should I sprinkle the neem cake on the soil? Thank you again!
Awesome. Great to hear, Lucille. Thanks for the feedback and really glad to hear that its working. You will find that you will not have to use as much from here on out. In fact, unless somehow you see them come back heavy again (which I extremely doubt you will) you probably don't have to top-dress again. Just keep watering with the "tea" and eventually the top stuff will break down and the smell will slowly diminish (I had the odor issue as well, and likewise -- it was totally worth it! But the smell is long gone). Then when you are down to NO gnats, you can even just go back to your regular watering, and maybe the once-in-a-while neem tea for maintenance. That's where I'm at. I haven't even used the neem tea in a few months because the gnats are completely eradicated!
Lucille Staiano I’m desperate for a fix too. I’ve tried DE, mosquito pellets, hydrogen peroxide, cinnamon, apple cider vinegar and sticky traps. Hopefully this works!!
yes we use neem leaves and it's fruits for skin allergies and consume for diabetes. .. neems is the most useful tree in india... evrything of this tree is useful... from bark to seeds to leaves to its juice.... literally evrything and it's use for mosquito killing and anti fungal...
I have ordered the Neem cake pellets and will be trying this and update as I go, got the Neem cake pellets in September •10/5/22 I have only watered twice with the Neem cake and will continue to do so to see if it’s actually working, I see so many more gnats then before but I gonna keep at it and we’ll see, I’ll update again to let you know if it gets any better, also my plants look extra healthy after the watering •12/7/22 it 100% worked, I haven’t seen any gnats even if I shake the plants there are none, 10/10 would highly recommend doing this both the tea and topping it •3/31/23 It took me about three months to fully get rid of them while using the neem tea for every single watering. But what I can say is that once you start using it you can’t stop or else they will come right back which sucks because of the price of the neem cake but this neem tea is the only thing that has worked for me
@@caseystaff888 I used neem every single water, I’d stay stick with the tea every time you water. Hope this helps!
@@alyssa3233 Ugh, I’m finally going to use NC - smell and all - bc I’m desperate (BTI didn’t work for me), but feel so defeated reading that for you you’ve had to continue using it on a regular basis. Doesn’t that mean that your house always smells horridly? 😩
@@rainedyani8505 I can only smell the neem tea for maybe the first 2-3 days after I water but I don’t smell it after that but maybe my nose has gotten used to it lol😂, how long did you use the bti and did you use it every water when you did use it?
Another thing.....not only did it get rid of my gnat infestation, my plants are so healthy thanks to the neem cake! They are growing so big! Thanks again!!!
so the over abundance of nutrients did not hurt them? My soil has already nutrients in it. I hate these gnats and would like to avoid killing my plant but I will if I need to. I want them to die.
I absolutely positively love Neem Cake! Thanks so much for giving me the final solution to the gnats! I live in Denver, and have over 45 indoor plants. After the first application, literally all of them motherf#$kers died! It even helped as a fertilizer for my plants and my cacti are growing like crazy! Thanks so much!
Short answer: 1) Use neem cake (NOT neem oil) found here: goo.gl/10cIoz (it’s a plant fertilizer.) Also found here: www.spraysmarter.com/nimbiosys-ahimsa-organics-neem-cake-5-lb.html?gclid=CNy0r-_ep80CFZcdgQodgTQLvw 2) Put some neem cake on top of the soil of the plant where the fungus gnats are originating from. 3) Mix 3.5 teaspoons of neem cake with water, mix (or shake), and let stand for one hour minimum. 4) Water your plants with this “neem water” mixture each time you water your plants which kills the fungus gnat larvae. 5) Within one or two weeks, you will eliminate fungus gnats from your home. 6) Use de-chlorinated water or allow your water to sit in the open for a day prior to watering to help the chlorine dissipate before watering your plants. (has nothing to do with gnats, but is probably better for your plants).
In India the traditional way of using neem it is to add neem oil to a filled watering can with a little soap to mix the oil and water. It's then used the following day.
why this type of info doesnt follow product is beyond me. Thank you. i used oil as directed a couple times and was confused why so many people swore by it. Seemed caustic almost. Letting it sit for a day with dawn dish soap let it emulsify more completely as in no shaking constantly, and it doesnt seem to stress (damage) the canna leaves
It does work!!!!! I ordered because the video and am so pleased with the immediate results! I plan to continue to use for protection against gnats, and fertilizer needs. What a wonderful product!! Thank you for the video! I wouldn't have found this at my local stores and this was the answer we needed!!! Infestation gone!!!
Going to order now and give it a go! Super excited! Hate gnats flying everywhere and aphids(sucking on my pepper plants😡). Thank you & I’ll be back to report my results here!
Thanks for this video, these creatures were ruining the enjoyment I get from my plants. Neem cake works, after only two waterings the gnats are down to only an occasional sighting. I can’t recommend this enough
I'll be ordering soon I've had an issue with fungus gnats and aphids pretty much my entire season this year and nothing has worked so I definitely appreciate the video thanks!
Yea dude. This stuff is killer for aphids as well. Here is the most amazing thing -- it is also a systemic. That means the plants draw it up and the aphids suck it up into themselves and slowly die off. I've done that too! If you want to combat them even quicker, you can also spray them with this same "tea".
I'm going to see if I can find this on Amazon. The diatomaceous earth and hydrogen peroxide aren't working. I notice these bugs get worse just after the full moon. Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed they are worse after the full moon?
@@c_b8s4 Hydrogen peroxide didn't work for me! I even tried rubbing Alcohol! Then I dumped a whole bunch of hot chili pepper power 🔥bit NO 😂 nothing worked! I cried 😭 💔 my poor baby plants!! I went to home Depot and got neem oil sprayed a half a bottle, took off 2-3" off soil from the top. Still not gone! Now I put some sticky tape next to the soil. I'm so, so afraid for my plants. I don't know if they will make it
@@duallinguallady-aishaahmed1812 I also have about a 1" layer of play sand covering my soil. This makes it impossible for adult fungus gnats to get to the soil to lay eggs. Adults also die trying to get out of the sand. Sand is not hospitable for fungus gnats as the tiny grains cut them up as they crawl through. Keep the traps out for remaining adults though.
Thanks so much!!! I had neem powder sitting right next to me and didn't think to try it! As soon as I sprinkled it on the plant soil! They took flight! Thank you
Mix 1tsp of ground cinnamon per every gallon of soil. It keeps out tons of pests including ground gnats. It is harmless to the plant, might even be beneficial.
Awesome vid! I just inherited a bonsai filled with gnats. I also have orchids indoors and a fruit and vegetable garden in my yard I don't want the gnats to get out of control. I am going to order the neem cake today. Coincidentally I'm also growing a neem plant. happy gardening
Righteo. Spent $45 on neem oil, made a HUGE mess of my apartment on 2 occasions, and spent easily 15 hours in the process trying to combat fungus gnats, all to no avail. I'm gonna give this a crack. Will order some neem cake tonight, follow instructions, and report back in the coming week(s).
Turns out they're called merchant grain beetle. Person at OMRI told me they're not harmful and that they will die off. She's sending me another bag. She also added that they haven't this issue for about ten months.
I'd like to do a follow up after I said I would try this. bottom line yes it works! it's not immediately mind you but in about 10 - 14 days they're gone and they stay gone. keep in mind a little will do. I lightly sprinkled the Neem Cake around the top before I watered with the Neem Cake "tea" I made like the way it was done in video. again thank you for posting this it really works.
thank you i have a lot of plants my self and those bugs is every where cant leave a drink uncovered they are in your face will try to order this will let you know
Bought the exact product and discouraged by initial results. Soil still wet when delivered, so I top dressed first. The top dressing encouraged huge mold growth that I had to peel away. Did not see ONE gnat when I did the top dressing treatment, and 2 weeks later, I’m infested. Just watered with the tea, and hopeful that this will work as you say it does. At wits end.
It's all in the watering. Stay at it and water (deeply and thoroughly) with it every time you need to water the plants. Yes -- top-dressing can get quite moldy. Don't worry about doing that from here on. Here is an update video I did that fine-tuned it all: ruclips.net/video/BwelmZFjEzI/видео.htmlsi=uYSFXGyGe1IkaZZo I'm sorry for your frustrations. Been exactly where you are. I am confident it will work.
Thank you so much for responding. I did make the tea and give soil a good soak, and less than 24 hours, I can see the gnats climbing all over the soil. I thought you said that they shut down rather instantly? Also, the mold spores really took off overnight as well.
@@tomslaterdesignillustratio4391 Sometimes they don't shut down and just stay around. But basically, the name is messing them up hormonally so that they do not eat and breed the same, and slowly kills all the larvae down in the soil. So it is not instant, but within a few times of watering, you should definitely see the numbers begin to drop off. Then it picks up momentum and keeps destroying them until they are all gone. This is at least how it has done for me and others I have spoken to. Also, if you check out my newer video I shared with you, I updated the recipe, I believe. You can check that out and make it a little stronger.
Thank you thank you thank you! Seed starting indoors is brutal for these little jerks. Trying not to let my seeds dry out is heaven for gnats. The search is on for Neem cake. Oil didn't work for me either 😏
I actually haven't had much issue with those so far. Spotted a few on my grapes last year and hand picked them off as soon as I could. I would imagine a similar recipe for spray would be good on those too though.
I'm currently dealing with a crazy infestation of fungus gnats. I've watered it with neem oil and water mixture and got the sticky trap in the soil. However now I've got mould on my soil! I'm going to try watering from the bottom, have sprinkled cinnamon on top to get rid of mould and going to have to replace the sticky trap (as the first one is full already). Wish me luck! I should've got onto this earlier!
Thanks! I will give it a try for sure! just ordered some! they get on my last nerve. I have never heard of this but it truly sounds like it works after researching.
I fought with gnats for over two years and what worked for me was Raid mosquito plug-in. Give it two or three days and you will get rid of those flying monsters.
Thank you for this! I've watched many videos before yours, and yours ended my search. Going to order the cake and oil today. Growing lemon and apple tree seedlings indoors my house, avocado tree indoors, and I have a ficus tree indoors. I just replanted the avocado and ficus w/fresh soil. Gnats are crazy! I used sand today, but will use the neem products when I recieve them in the mail and let you know how it goes! Oh...been watering my plants for now with a mild detergent mixed in w/the water, but not helping because I changed the soil on all the plants indoors, so the gnats are out of control!
Yup, no problem. I've tried the sand too which was mildly helpful but didn't get rid of them at all. Yea, that dish soap will also be harsh on your soil life (beneficial microbes). That's one of the reasons why I like making the neam tea this way. : )
Bought neem cake because of this video. Results: Not all it's cracked up to be. Aside from the putrid smell it emits when used indoors, it also very quickly grows a thick, white mold ( fungus?) when sprinkled into potted houseplants. And besides these deal breakers, ( for me, anyway ), over a two to three month period of use , I really didn't see much of a reduction in gnat activity at all. For anyone who might read this seeking something that actually works, try Mosquito Bits - a nature-sourced bacteria that is safe to use, but interrupts the gnat life cycle, thus eliminating them from your plants and home. It's cheaper, has no noxious odor, and I'm seeing no gnats for the first time in forever about two weeks after starting it in my plants.
Will be trying this, after using ECO-Friendly seed starting mix, I produced a bumper crop of Gnats. My bad for taking a shortcut, I usually use plain coconut coir, and never bring outside soil into my seed starting area. Yellow sticky traps are getting filled up.
Hey Brad, which item is the bag you currently have? I followed the link you posted an there are many items but I want to be sure I get the correct granules! Thanks :)
I water them every once in a while with it now, just to keep them healthy. I'm sure you can use the neem tea as part of the regiment. I can't speak too much for that however because I fertilize my plants by top-dressing them with rich compost (it trickles down the nutrients a little every time I water).
Yea, it shouldn't be a problem at all, from what I can tell. There are some nutrients in the neem so perhaps back off just slightly on the amount of flowering-stage nutrients, if at all.
I keep seeing vinegar and soap and that DOES NOT WORK! IM GOING TO TRY THIS THANK YOU WE HAVE THEM IN EVERY ROOM DONT HAVE PLANTS SO NOT SURE WHY WE GOT THEM
I don't know what combination worked but I threw my beloved 3 plants away, made the vinegar traps & poured Ammonia down the drains, after a long annoying couple weeks, glad to report I'm free of them. Hopefully you can rid yours too.
What do you think about the safety of using neem on edible plants? Neem normally should not be ingested and plants will absorb it so not sure if I should use it with indoor greens, herbs, etc.
Totally safe on edibles. In fact, it is practically (or literally) edible itself. It's in all sorts of natural products now. It is a safe, organic substance.
The Colorado Garden ... incorrect. You cannot get it on Amazon in many countries & The source in your description does not post worldwide. Believe it or not USA is not the centre of the universe.
@@rollerbladinggeek5507 I didn't mean it like that. Believe me, I'm no cheerleader for the USA stuck in the American bubble. The reason why I said what I said while trying to help you was because of my own misunderstanding of how Amazon works. I thought that Amazon was more of a worldwide shopping platform with more worldwide availability with products across the board. My mistake. Your point taken, about the lack of availability in your part of the world and others, and I'm sorry to hear that. But that has nothing to do with thinking more highly of the USA than other countries or belittling anyone else at all. Hope you can understand that, but either way, bless you and thanks for watching.
Thank you sir! These little scrubs are crazy. I will be sure to try this stuff out and disclose the results here in this comment section. Have a good day
thank you.omg great solution. I used the spray on my floating onion raft and in 2 days more than 75% have left. excellent results so far. thank you for sharing this info...you rock!!! my buds will love this too.
Good question. I have heard that neem has systemic properties. If so, it would be killer for leaf eating/sucking insect issues as well. Either way, this stuff makes a great foliar spray.
I'm using a foliar spray version currently and I think I like the idea of putting on the soil and watering with the cake more than spraying on the plant itself is better than spraying directly on the plant and the fruit. Definitely think I am going to switch over to this method and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing.
I have a bioactive reptile terrarium and I saw the pupae of these annoying pests climbing all over and bothering my snake. I also know their not snake mite based on their coloration. I was told to simply introduce predator mites into the habitat, but this makes me weary (like what if I get the wrong one). I did some research on neem, neem oil, and neem cake and found that it doesn't prove to be harmful to reptiles. After watching your video I ordered the exact same bag! hopefully this will solve my problem! Thanks!
I like carnivorous plants for gnats. Or mosquito dunks or bits. Build A Soil sells Neem cake and Neem with karanja cake mixed. They have lots of great organic amendments for sale.
Just use saran wrap for 2 to 3 weeks.the eggs will hatch and have no where to go and die off..adults use soap water..cover holes on bottom of pots..super easy. .
hi and thank you for the video and tips. I'm going crazy with gnats all over the house...embarrassing when people visit and they're swishing the gnats away! I wanted to ask...do I just apply the neem to top soil 1 time or do I apply it everytime i water?
Thanks! I just applied the neem cake and will be watering today too. I have to say the smell is not as bad as I thought it would be. I was expecting like cow/horse manure smell, so right now I am happy with the smell LOL. I will keep you updated with progress.
Hi again. I have a bit of a problem as I did water but the soil is so moist that I will not need to water for over a month if not longer due to being winter time. The plant top soil is producing mold now too. Also, how long does it take to see any results? If the soil is too moist, such as mine, will this make a significant difference and not work? (Plants: peace lily, guiana chestnut, and philodendron) Lastly, is all neem cake the same? I purchased mine from build a soil website...Thx
Hmm. Yea, it will work best when it's a little warmer, in order to get the soil freshly exposed to the neem more often. My guess is the compounds that are harmful to the gnats may break down and weaken at some point, however maybe less quickly since the soil is still moist with neem. Definitely not worth overwatering and harming your plants so lets hope it still has the same effect. Worst case scenario it will make a huge dent and then you finish them off in the warmer months quicker. I don't know for sure though, and there's a possibility it will work just as well remaining moist for longer. With that said, whatever you can do then to keep fresh neem at the surface. Perhaps sprinkle at the top enough to cover most surface area (but not crazy thick), let it mold a little and do its thing (sorry -- but it shouldn't hurt the plants at all) and then weekly, scrape out the neem stuff and reapply, instead of watering. The goal will be to keep good, strong neem in their unavoidable path. As for the source and whether all neem cake is the same, I can't say for sure because my experience is with that one in particular, but I'm sure if they are labeled as neem cake (and nothing else) they most likely are. Hope this helps.
Well, I tried all your suggestions and no luck. I believe it would have worked if it was not winter time plus if my plants were not already over watered. Thanks again for the video though.
I will try this method, got a bad infestation and tried like everything. different traps, microscopic worms, vacuum cleaner did not help. Just ordered a bag of Neem Cake!
Oh my God! Neem Cake is magic! " 2 days ago I did as you instructed and now the gnats are just a few ones flying around and nothing in the pots any more, they used to hang there in hundreds. They went all crazy when I added Neem to the soil immediately and now I find them dead on the floor. Amazing! Why isn't this Neem popular? All I could find on internet was these other half good solutions. I will add it to my garden as well to keep it safe from slugs and bugs. WOW! thanks for this video.
Sir, will neem cake control springtails bugs too. I have major infestation of this guys.. I think they are killing my plants. They are not that harmful but the one i have is definately killi ng my plants they are out of control
It is an excellent foliar spray for the health of the plant and for ridding certain pests, but will not have the same leaf shining properties, if that is what you are looking for.
These days I only water with it once in a while because I no longer have as much need for it. However I am convinced that you can water with neem every time for quite a while or even for good because it is good for the plants in general. If you're referring to the frequency during gnat infestation, just water with neem on the same schedule as you would normally. Watering your plants everyday would kill most plants in general. Its good to wait until the top bit of soil is dry between waterings for most plants. For me its about once a week.
I made the water mixture and watered all my plants last week and barely see the gnats now! Question, how long can I store the water mixture? I went to water my plants today and the smell of the water is beyond awful! Does it go bad? Thanks!!
Great to hear! Yes - after about a day, the water mixture gets very weird very quickly. It starts to ferment and turn bad. Use it up within a day of mixing.
Yes. I bought a 5lb box from Amazon and it is in meal form. If you research Neem Cake you will find that the description is interchangeable as they are one and the same. So far I've only used it once and can't yet tell if it's effective. I don't have a "infestation" of fungus gnats as much as I have "some" or enough to be very annoying. Another application or 2 should be enough to see if it works.
Hi - not sure if you are still responding to these but I tried it and it absolutely worked. A few gnats here and there but I am assuming they are adults and won't be creating any kids anymore. Here's the issue though - the smell. It's been about a week and it's almost unbearable to walk into our apartment (smaller NYC apartment). Will it go away if I don't intend to dress or use tea for a while? OR do I need to get rid of the dressing on all these plants and it will always smell if there is dressing (and if I take off the dressing, will the gnats come back..)
Awesome. Glad it worked. Yea, I hear you. The good thing is that smell will fade. What I did was just started watering regular again (remember, don't over-water...bad for plants and good for gnats) and eventually the top dressing broke down fully. You can probably just remove the top dress to make it quicker. Maybe bare with it one more week or so (until you don't really see ANY adults anymore) and then proceed? Might be wise. Then just every once in a while water with the neem (no top dress) to maintain.. Cool thing is, you did it! Hope that helps.
I don't think it will at all. Maybe just use the tea though and not the top dressing. That way it doesn't get too messy. and moldy for the young shoots.
Great information!!! Would it be worth it to mix a bit of the neem cake in with the soil when repotting plants I purchased from a local nursery? Or would that be overkill?
I believe its a bit different of product, as neem powder is made from neem leaf and neem meal is made from neem seed, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a similar effect. I just can't personally vouch for it.
Well hell. I'm into it just under a month of watering with neem cake and it doesn't seem to be helping. I just stirred the soil and a large number of gnats came scurrying out. (( The indoor plants are outdoor until I can figure this out.
I know you posted this video months ago, but I just started a new garden indoors. I found myself battling fungus gnats. I started with yellow sticky tape and Rid Nix. So now since I have that Nix lying on top my soil can I sprinkle the Neem Cake right on top of that?
Tried that and it didn't work for me. The gnats still were able to find areas such as the bottom holes of the pot, or little spaces on the sides where they can get in. Also, you have to water extremely slow and carefully if you have the sand so as not to disturb it and get the soil to mix/rise within the sand.. Another drawback for me was not being able to monitor the soil moisture for my plants because I couldn't stick my finger into the soil or see how the soil was doing. I'm glad if it worked for you though. Thanks for the input.
Hello. I tried your method here a couple days ago and the stench of the neem cake is something else. Any idea when that stench goes away? Also, three of my plant's top soil, since doing this method, have developed white mold. Does this seem to make any sense to you? Thanks for your response.
Ok, now all my plants have a white mold growing on the top soil. Gnats are still hanging around but it's only been a couple days. Stench of that stuff still knocks me back when I come in the house. Smells like extremely moldy beef stew. Ughh.
The video does mention both of these issues. Sounds like you put a little too much at the top. It shouldn't hurt anything but feel free to get rid of some. Mine did have a little bit of the mold a few times but not much. It showed up at the areas that were a little thick with it. Lessen the top-dressing amount....Just a light (but even) sprinkle, and keep at it, not watering extra but definitely using the "tea" every time you do water. Most of your gnats likely have been effected and will all eventually die. Also make sure the tea is strong enough...AKA, it has sat long enough to develop some color. It won't harm anything if you go an extra teaspoon over. Once you get rid of all of the gnats, you wont have to deal with the smell anymore because you won't have to top-dress at all at that point. Would love to know your results in a few weeks from now.
IT WORKS! I live in Colorado and it has been two weeks since I top dressed and watered with Neem Cake as directed in this video. IT WORKS! Fungus Gnats are gone. ***Caution*** - Neem Cake has a STRONG smell and it will smell up your home. Use sparingly to start!

30 plants is nothing...try over 100. NOT reporting them all
yes we use neem leaves and it's fruits for skin allergies and consume for diabetes. .. neems is the most useful tree in india... evrything of this tree is useful... from bark to seeds to leaves to its juice.... literally evrything and it's use for mosquito killing and anti fungal...
I have ordered the Neem cake pellets and will be trying this and update as I go, got the Neem cake pellets in September
•10/5/22 I have only watered twice with the Neem cake and will continue to do so to see if it’s actually working, I see so many more gnats then before but I gonna keep at it and we’ll see, I’ll update again to let you know if it gets any better, also my plants look extra healthy after the watering
•12/7/22 it 100% worked, I haven’t seen any gnats even if I shake the plants there are none, 10/10 would highly recommend doing this both the tea and topping it
•3/31/23 It took me about three months to fully get rid of them while using the neem tea for every single watering. But what I can say is that once you start using it you can’t stop or else they will come right back which sucks because of the price of the neem cake but this neem tea is the only thing that has worked for me
Great to hear! I am just starting the process. Do you ever alternate between the “neem tea” and plain water, or should I just stick with the tea?
@@caseystaff888 I used neem every single water, I’d stay stick with the tea every time you water. Trust the process it takes a little while but it definitely worked, but what I did notice is that once you start you can not stop using the tea or else they will come right back which sucks but as long as those things are gone I’m fine, Neem is the only thing that has worked for me.
Daniel Maynard where do you get it? I'm so frustrated
Thanks for sharing homie cold front brought the fuckers, light at end of tunnel, hope mycorrhizae lives though
Please let us know I have over 50 houseplants & im running out of options & it’s getting costly 😪
@@alexiasmith6120 I want to cry
I left the neem cake too long in water...BIG mistake. It smells like a public restroom. Thanks for the post!
Short answer:
1) Use neem cake (NOT neem oil) found here: goo.gl/10cIoz (it’s a plant fertilizer.) Also found here: www.spraysmarter.com/nimbiosys-ahimsa-organics-neem-cake-5-lb.html?gclid=CNy0r-_ep80CFZcdgQodgTQLvw
2) Put some neem cake on top of the soil of the plant where the fungus gnats are originating from.
(has nothing to do with gnats, but is probably better for your plants).
that's $20 more than NeemResource, for the same amount.
Stan Watt how much water , how much neem oil do mix?
Pouring soap into your soil can kill the beneficial organisms.
I have only applied it once so far, and I have noticed big difference. I will be doing my second application this week.
I can’t recommend this enough
thank you!! gnats gone with neem cake in 3 days
I hope not. It's full moon tonight and I'm hitting mine with hydrogen peroxide today! Lol
M Chris Thank you 😊, I will try it. I got to purchase it.
I use neem seed meal and it works really good. In the usa they call it meal and other places cake.
That didn't work for me, including other herbs and spices too. Tried many times with many different ingredients. Glad if it works for you though.
This does work! I used it on some plants and they were gone in a few days.
Did it work
Turns out they're called merchant grain beetle. Person at OMRI told me they're not harmful and that they will die off. She's sending me another bag. She also added that they haven't this issue for about ten months.
Oooh I’m gonna try this. And I spied the Logee’s tag in your plant pot. I love that place soooooo much.
Hi! I’m from the Netherlands. I found neem leaf powder. Is this the same thing? Will this work as well? Thanks in advance 🍃💖😊
How do we even get them, are they all ready in the soil when we buy the plants?
Here is an update video I did that fine-tuned it all: ruclips.net/video/BwelmZFjEzI/видео.htmlsi=uYSFXGyGe1IkaZZo
I'm sorry for your frustrations.
Have you been able to mitigate the Japanese beetle problem? I get a lot of those munching on my plants during the summer, they really ruin stuff.
I actually haven't had much issue with those so far. Spotted a few on my grapes last year and hand picked them off as soon as I could. I would imagine a similar recipe for spray would be good on those too though.
I have got to try this...my plants have such an infestation.
I am from Europe and I can't find this anywhere, only similar products from USA. Any ideas?
I fought with gnats for over two years and what worked for me was Raid mosquito plug-in. Give it two or three days and you will get rid of those flying monsters.
Is it the same as Neem granules?
I used MB and it didn’t work. I absolutely HATE the thought of this smell in my apt, but I’m desperate, so I’m trying the NC next. 😞
Will be trying this, after using ECO-Friendly seed starting mix, I produced a bumper crop of Gnats. My bad for taking a shortcut, I usually use plain coconut coir, and never bring outside soil into my seed starting area. Yellow sticky traps are getting filled up.
thanks for the advice. btw, did you get the powder or the pallet?
Was wondering how the "Down to Earth" brand compares to the neemrescource product?
Thank you!! I’m off to order some now & I pray to GAWD it works!! These little buggers are SOO annoying!!
Hey Brad, which item is the bag you currently have? I followed the link you posted an there are many items but I want to be sure I get the correct granules! Thanks :)
How often do you water with neem tea? Can you add neem cake to a regiment of plant food/ fertilizer?
I water them every once in a while with it now, just to keep them healthy. I'm sure you can use the neem tea as part of the regiment. I can't speak too much for that however because I fertilize my plants by top-dressing them with rich compost (it trickles down the nutrients a little every time I water).
How does this effect using additional nutrients for flowering time ??? is it safe ??? To use after using neem cake
Yea, it shouldn't be a problem at all, from what I can tell. There are some nutrients in the neem so perhaps back off just slightly on the amount of flowering-stage nutrients, if at all.
Topsrite n
I keep seeing vinegar and soap and that DOES NOT WORK! IM GOING TO TRY THIS THANK YOU WE HAVE THEM IN EVERY ROOM DONT HAVE PLANTS SO NOT SURE WHY WE GOT THEM
I don't know what combination worked but I threw my beloved 3 plants away, made the vinegar traps & poured Ammonia down the drains, after a long annoying couple weeks, glad to report I'm free of them. Hopefully you can rid yours too.
😊
What do you think about the safety of using neem on edible plants? Neem normally should not be ingested and plants will absorb it so not sure if I should use it with indoor greens, herbs, etc.
Totally safe on edibles. In fact, it is practically (or literally) edible itself. It's in all sorts of natural products now. It is a safe, organic substance.
Hi
3 tsp of neem for 1gal?
Wow! It worked for me. Tried many other methods. Only this worked. By the way I have a question. Adding neem cake to edible plant is okay. Right?
Excellent. Glad to hear. Yes, 100% perfect for edibles, as neem is practically edible in itself!
but.... u can't get neem cake in many parts of the world. For example some parts of europe, including uk.
You can find it pretty easily on Amazon, as well as that source I get it from (in the video description). Hope that helps.
The Colorado Garden ... incorrect. You cannot get it on Amazon in many countries & The source in your description does not post worldwide. Believe it or not USA is not the centre of the universe.
Good to know, my friend. I wish you the best in finding a source.
The Colorado Garden I wish u the best in realising there are other countries
@@rollerbladinggeek5507 I didn't mean it like that. Believe me, I'm no cheerleader for the USA stuck in the American bubble.
The reason why I said what I said while trying to help you was because of my own misunderstanding of how Amazon works. I thought that Amazon was more of a worldwide shopping platform with more worldwide availability with products across the board. My mistake. Your point taken, about the lack of availability in your part of the world and others, and I'm sorry to hear that. But that has nothing to do with thinking more highly of the USA than other countries or belittling anyone else at all. Hope you can understand that, but either way, bless you and thanks for watching.
so once the fungus gnats are gone dose that mean you don't need to use the product any more unless they come back in the future?
Do I get the neem Bark powder or the neem palette which one please
Can it be added to the soil in a planter before you plant?
Absolutely!
They don’t ship oitside of USA. Anyone know where else I can order this in Europe?
Can you tell if any plants cannot tolerate the neem tea?
So far I have not found any. They all seem to dig it. : )
Thank you sir! These little scrubs are crazy. I will be sure to try this stuff out and disclose the results here in this comment section. Have a good day
Did you try it?
Yes,it works.100%. Thankyou.
Glad to hear! Blessings
fungus gnats killed all 100 of my NZ Pine Tree sprouts....thanks for the tip! I will use this on my next round
thank you.omg great solution. I used the spray on my floating onion raft and in 2 days more than 75% have left. excellent results so far. thank you for sharing this info...you rock!!! my buds will love this too.
Will neem cake kill spider mites?
Will this uptake into the plants using the watering technique?
Good question. I have heard that neem has systemic properties. If so, it would be killer for leaf eating/sucking insect issues as well. Either way, this stuff makes a great foliar spray.
I'm using a foliar spray version currently and I think I like the idea of putting on the soil and watering with the cake more than spraying on the plant itself is better than spraying directly on the plant and the fruit. Definitely think I am going to switch over to this method and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing.
Do they ship to Toronto Canada?
I hv 31 Orchideen plants , what is here the mix with water sir ? Pls :-)
Does Neem seed meal work as well???
Would this make veggies and fruit taste any different????
Nope. Never did for me.
I read that the neem cake could cause mould
It can, especially if you top dress it too thick. Just keep it thin at the top or don't top dress at all. It will work.
Just use saran wrap for 2 to 3 weeks.the eggs will hatch and have no where to go and die off..adults use soap water..cover holes on bottom of pots..super easy. .
Hi does it work on root aphids too
hi and thank you for the video and tips. I'm going crazy with gnats all over the house...embarrassing when people visit and they're swishing the gnats away! I wanted to ask...do I just apply the neem to top soil 1 time or do I apply it everytime i water?
Just one time should be good enough.
Yup. Tried it all too. I feel your pain! This will work. Feel free to let me know your results.
Awesome. Glad to hear. I know, it's amazing. Slugs are not an insect so they might react differently. Let me know how you do on them!
Will it effect spring tails?
Where are you? We Homestead out on the eastern plains.
Nice. I'm in Wheat Ridge.
Sir, will neem cake control springtails bugs too. I have major infestation of this guys..
I think they are killing my plants.
They are not that harmful but the one i have is definately killi ng my plants they are out of control
would this neem cake work as a folier spray instead of neem oil ?
It is an excellent foliar spray for the health of the plant and for ridding certain pests, but will not have the same leaf shining properties, if that is what you are looking for.
Thanks for taking the time to post your results, and the reminder regarding chlorinated water. I knew that but forgot ;)
Do you water with neem tea everyday? or a few times a week? I just want to make sure that I don' t kill my plants in the process.
How can I tell the difference between spring tails and fungus gnats?
They look quite different from each other. Try searching them both in Google Images.
Is this the same as neem meal?
Yes it is.
Will this harm in any way recently sprouted lemon trees ? My trees
Are about 1 month old
I don't think it will at all. Maybe just use the tea though and not the top dressing. That way it doesn't get too messy. and moldy for the young shoots.
Great information!!! Would it be worth it to mix a bit of the neem cake in with the soil when repotting plants I purchased from a local nursery? Or would that be overkill?
Yes, I have heard of people doing that as well. Just keep it pretty light...Not too much.
Is it the same as neem powder? Cant seem find neem cake
I believe its a bit different of product, as neem powder is made from neem leaf and neem meal is made from neem seed, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a similar effect. I just can't personally vouch for it.
I bought this brand, it had a ton of merchant grain beetles in them. Now all my plants are infested with this bug.
What about using neem oil and mix with water and spray?
Yes, it's a good spray but not as effective as this method for the gnats.
3 teaspoons = 1 table spoon
Yea. I'll use a good heaping 3 1/2 teaspoons...whatever that is.
Thank you so much for the information. Can you use this product on succulents?
Yup! Sure can.
Yup! Sure can.
My succulents have infested mealies, can I use your method as well? Thank you very much.
Will it work in a terrarium?
It definitely should.
Yea, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything.
a layer of horticultural sand on top of the soil will stop the gnats rising from the depths, so to speak. neem is tops though :)
Is this better than diatomaceous earth?
+Zelus Brand From my experience trying both -- Yes, absolutely. The DE didn't work too well for me.
Can I use this method in terrariums?
Yes I'd imagine you can.
What brand do you get and where to find/buy it?
Did you even watch the video? Look below and it tells you. HOWEVER it is in pellet for nt powder as he makes it look.
