- Beginning in the 1960s, the infamous Black Mafia terrorized African American sections of Philadelphia while the police often looked the other way. Sean Patrick Griffin, author of "Black Brothers Inc.," discusses the topic.
Can't have the Black Mafia movie without having something about Frank Matthews to come with it.
world of peace NO THAT WERE ALLIES WITH NICKY BARNES, FRANK MATTHEW'S HAD A COUPLE OF DUDES THAT THEY RAN THREW.
I live in Philadelphia, and watched the second reign of the black mafia, which was the JBM (Junior Black Mafia). They were equally as violent and dominated the Philly drug trade for a decent amount of years.
@tinygangster66 They called their organization La Cosa Nostra but everybody else calls them the Mafia but members dont refer to themselves by the name. It's la cosa nostra means " Our Thing" in italian.
This book is crucial
Excellent interview.
Teddy Pendergrass's manager was murdered by the Black Mafia, if I'm correct. And the possibility that either the Black Mafia or Philly Police clipped his brakes of his Rolls that crashed; Black victims in Philly had no one to go to for justice. Philly was rough.....!
It's still rough as ever.
i read this book with a great deal of interest and as a Philadelphian i do remember the aura of these hoods that ran in black Philadelphia
this book was fantastic AND the foot notes( the reference section ) are emence
do not think that just because this time period was the 60 and the 70s that the black mafia was some obscure un known dudes that were not as violent and ruthless as the Italian mafia this story hadn't been told earlier because of fear of being labeled racist
Its Funny How as soon as he began to speak on political corruption, the white house and George Bush etc. there was no time left in the discussion.
@mrtundra45
right on, cheers! I thinking the same about you.
Many in lower social-economic class act like mafia, what with the code of silence and criminal notions of 'respect'.
I've got to agree man, have you rad the book? they got pictures in there of some of the stuff they did them brothers were brutal even kareem abdul jabar got caught up in it! 5 stars....
My grandfather died in the black mafia.
Was a great piece on t.v. and this guy was a part of it..
They shook down .protection racket all smaller players then started a bigger drug dealing operation than previously existed. Wipe out dealer in Atlantic City in 70s.500 club people in bar refused to identify or testify ....
Its funny how as soon as he began speaking on political issues and naming names he was cut off...
@4cfingerboards I know and that could be the reason he isn't prison.
@mrtundra45 im talking about organized crime not mafias
@15erpent oh
@15erpent you mean black mafia family in atlanta
im from atlanta...and the black mafia family(big meech and crew) started in detroit but they had bases all over the country...atlanta being one of them...they made atlanta their main hub because they made the most money in the ATL...but they also were in greenville s.c.,st.louis,los angeles,houston,dallas,carson city,louisville kentucky,miami,gary indiana,richmond va. and lots of other places...this black mafia family is a different group but were the first...its clear that meech took the name
It didn’t start in Detroit
@The1phillykid Word! The original black mafia!!!
people dont know cause its not as intergrated as any other mafia win by fear never work
@MuggaReik yeah but atlanta was just a hub for bmf.
Well how about someone in the "community" write a book about them.
I'm on RUclips talking about my family,
What are you talking about? Your quite confused. BMF the record label was started in ATL but the group was formed in Detroit. Obviously there are other groups in the world.
not talking about them in the first place was the true bias
@tinygangster66 The Black Panther Party was a political civil rights movement for blacks not a crime syndicate. I been searching the internet for months and trust me theres only a FEW black syndicates in the us and the other is Black Guerrilla Family.
La Cosa Nostra is still the most powerful syndicate in US.
Where are the people who you're speaking of ? They should also be there to express their 'Reasons' to the issues that led them to Beirut behaviors? Could police brutality, joblessness or racial discrimination be the underlying causes! Many of our white collar 'criminals' who go unpunished due to the complexion for the protection! Tell the whole story and give up names of the corrupt police who , I guareenty, were involved!
The Black Mafia is far more complex than you seem to realize. I implore you to read this novel and to fully understand the connections to the Nation of Islam, which is perhaps the most important and revealing factor in the Black Mafia.
I also encourage you to research the Hanafi killings, in which seven Black Muslims (including a nine month old and 7 day old baby) were murdered due to religious differences. This is not the fault of white people, or corrupt police, this is a fundamentally evil group acting within their own means.
If you're interested in the Black Mafia, google "Sam Christian, Requiem For A Gangster". The article will tell you more than this interview.
@bigmrjuarez. lol you are funny because its been here forever
me too
An element came threw and took the Strong and left the Weak
It was a exactly accurate and you faslely implemented people who may sue you
@mrtundra45
LOL italians are our sons! MOORS are back in power.
@mrtundra45
I don't understand why you think I'm complaining? I said I don't really care one way or another... I see I hurt your feelings, so you should stop with the negative comments. I dont know why I'm the hater for checking you on your B.S. i never called you names, I just stated the facts. I'm not oppressed, my life is great. I dont have to make negative comments to make myself feel better. For the record you dont want Gangsta sh-t, so watch the slick talk my friend. I KNOW U lol
Sam Christian I believe killed Fat Palmer that was one of Frank Mathews dudes along with Pop Darby the hit was really meant for Frank Blk mobb ran Frank and Pop out of Philly
@tinygangster66 Duuuh....,
thats the real name of the mafia
IF A BLACK DUDE FROM PHILLY WROTE THIS BOOK, HE WOULD HAVE GOT HATED ON
@mrtundra45 I KNOW WHO THE FUCC the LCN is!!! I grew up in two hoods in Philly both called little italy.
The second one not only had wise guys but the Pagans 1% bikers. I saw this crap first hand.., the their meetups on the corner (which we kids stayed away from) a few kids I hung out with were either grandsons of the WG's or sons of Pagans at the time.
My favorite movies are mob movies because guys like Frankie S. & Mario, Scorcessee, Stone, Dinero, Pesci, made it famous and glamorous
I like chicken.
The Subtle Racism in this interview is revolting...
No such thing as Black Mafia Family. Blacks aren't Italian so this is misleading. Mafia is an Italian Term that goes way back from Sicily. Black Gangs** should not be labeled as Mafia. I can see why they did in the 60s because it was catchy for headlines. Black gangs were far far from being organized like the Italians...
+DaIeDenton lol you're an idiot
+DaIeDenton You may need to do more research. Black gangs were present since blacks were on the continent.
you don't know what you're talking about
Frank Matthews ran 21 states and the whole of the east coast ,now that brother was organized and kept the Philly Black Mafia at bay too .
DaIeDenton there is only one mafia it’s Sicilian la cosa nostra
jeezy a fake crip@ dat!!!!!
mafia mean. family. no color in that
Naw incorrect
DID YOU KNOW.THE BMF...PATTERNED THEMSLEVES AFTER THE ORIGINAL Black Mobb In the 1960s???
RONALD Becton LIES, THE BLACK MAFIA PATTERNED THEMSELVES AFTER THE F.O.I, THEN GOT KICKED OUT NOT FOLLOWING ORDERS.
john gotti was still more powerful
Yep of course
Your point ...I'm Italian an I can bet you gotti may have had more Money but he definitely wouldn't want to go to war with them
