  • Beginning in the 1960s, the infamous Black Mafia terrorized African American sections of Philadelphia while the police often looked the other way. Sean Patrick Griffin, author of "Black Brothers Inc.," discusses the topic.

    I live in Philadelphia, and watched the second reign of the black mafia, which was the JBM (Junior Black Mafia). They were equally as violent and dominated the Philly drug trade for a decent amount of years.

    @tinygangster66 They called their organization La Cosa Nostra but everybody else calls them the Mafia but members dont refer to themselves by the name. It's la cosa nostra means " Our Thing" in italian.

    Teddy Pendergrass's manager was murdered by the Black Mafia, if I'm correct. And the possibility that either the Black Mafia or Philly Police clipped his brakes of his Rolls that crashed; Black victims in Philly had no one to go to for justice. Philly was rough.....!

    i read this book with a great deal of interest and as a Philadelphian i do remember the aura of these hoods that ran in black Philadelphia
    this book was fantastic AND the foot notes( the reference section ) are emence
    do not think that just because this time period was the 60 and the 70s that the black mafia was some obscure un known dudes that were not as violent and ruthless as the Italian mafia this story hadn't been told earlier because of fear of being labeled racist

    im from atlanta...and the black mafia family(big meech and crew) started in detroit but they had bases all over the country...atlanta being one of them...they made atlanta their main hub because they made the most money in the ATL...but they also were in greenville s.c.,st.louis,los angeles,houston,dallas,carson city,louisville kentucky,miami,gary indiana,richmond va. and lots of other places...this black mafia family is a different group but were the first...its clear that meech took the name

    @tinygangster66 The Black Panther Party was a political civil rights movement for blacks not a crime syndicate. I been searching the internet for months and trust me theres only a FEW black syndicates in the us and the other is Black Guerrilla Family.
    La Cosa Nostra is still the most powerful syndicate in US.

    Where are the people who you're speaking of ? They should also be there to express their 'Reasons' to the issues that led them to Beirut behaviors? Could police brutality, joblessness or racial discrimination be the underlying causes! Many of our white collar 'criminals' who go unpunished due to the complexion for the protection! Tell the whole story and give up names of the corrupt police who , I guareenty, were involved!

    • @mallardboy23
      @mallardboy23 5 лет назад

      The Black Mafia is far more complex than you seem to realize. I implore you to read this novel and to fully understand the connections to the Nation of Islam, which is perhaps the most important and revealing factor in the Black Mafia.
      I also encourage you to research the Hanafi killings, in which seven Black Muslims (including a nine month old and 7 day old baby) were murdered due to religious differences. This is not the fault of white people, or corrupt police, this is a fundamentally evil group acting within their own means.

    @mrtundra45 I KNOW WHO THE FUCC the LCN is!!! I grew up in two hoods in Philly both called little italy.
    The second one not only had wise guys but the Pagans 1% bikers. I saw this crap first hand.., the their meetups on the corner (which we kids stayed away from) a few kids I hung out with were either grandsons of the WG's or sons of Pagans at the time.
    My favorite movies are mob movies because guys like Frankie S. & Mario, Scorcessee, Stone, Dinero, Pesci, made it famous and glamorous

    No such thing as Black Mafia Family. Blacks aren't Italian so this is misleading. Mafia is an Italian Term that goes way back from Sicily. Black Gangs** should not be labeled as Mafia. I can see why they did in the 60s because it was catchy for headlines. Black gangs were far far from being organized like the Italians...
