    I started a type set a couple of years ago, completed the capped bust and so am on the draped bust having just got a half dollar 1803 large 3 loose, sent it in and came back a vf30 no details, obviously the next will be the flowing hair half dollar but they won't be complete without the dollar, 25c, 10c, 5c and pennies...I have the large 1798 penny which are difficult to find in a fine condition without being graded for an album, the draped 50c was to be for an album but just stood out too much and therefore had to be graded, going from a $250 price to perhaps a $1500 graded coin...I like raw but I think when they scream 'protect me' then off to grade they go.

    Super looking coins Numi ! I actually have been thinking about a United States Dollar Type Set after I finish my Morgan Dollar Collection. That 1889 CC Morgan Dollar is expensive even in that grade. I opted for and purchased an 89 CC in XF Details, Slabbed (Still Very Expensive for me) ! An AU 50 example without details will set the buyer back about $7K, Thank You for sharing Numi :-))

  • @FirstLast-ms4yl

    Even a 1795 in that condition is pretty damn cool to own. A 1794 where you can barely read the date is probably worth like 100 of those though lol

  • @Juan_Doooh
    @Juan_Doooh Год назад

    I would take the CC Morgan in a heartbeat. Rarity alone makes up for the old cleaning and possible details grade…at least it would be confirmed as a genuine coin.

    Nice Flowing Hair and Draped Bust coins engraved by Robert Scot, who had many historically important engravings throughout the American Revolution before he was appointed chief engraver of the US Mint in 1793.

    1794 1796 1802 these three pieces. I have them but I see that there is variety in them which many say are not real that are false has all the details weight in grams. They are Silver and have the corresponding measurements. according to the book. but it turns out that two of them look better than they have been. that of 1794 and 1802 I have not yet certified. why I don't really know if PCGS will make me on my pieces. a good job since I am new to this and I do not have the corresponding idea for me to fill out the sheet and expose the details of the pieces and more than these are old coins and an error of mine arias that my pieces are not properly certified

      @@Numistacker I believe that the flowing hair coin shown has a mint installed plug... (usually seen on the reverse in the center of the eagle's breast... If so, it (a mint plug) has its own category from PCGS = 6854 vs a "regular" 1795 flowing hair, 3 leaves = 6852..
      PCGS has graded about 1750 coins in the 6852 class vs. about 211 of the mint plug variety...6852, so the latter variety is much smaller...
      At this writing, (June of 2021) I am submitting a genuine 1795 F.H. 3 leaves to the NGC because I believe that the coin I own has TWO mint installed plugs.. If this is the case, then there are only two coins of this type are known to exist!!... I will keep you informed...
      also, I believe that the die type of the coin show above will often feature a "die crack" towards the top of the reverse... look closely...

    WOW Numi, those are some great coins. The 1795 Dollar I would not bid on due to that marks and the dark lines on the observe (it's sad because the general color is very good). The 1796 looks OK to me given the low grade (G8). The 1797 half dime is crusty and worn, but a rare type/year and looks original to me. The 1889CC is the key date CC Morgan...nice coin, but WOULD get details :( .

    Also the Draped bust dollar seems to have old cleaning. Also, it does look AT. I. It was most likely freeze-toned, when someone puts a coin in water into a freezer, and it comes out with a dark patina and some deep reddish coloring.

    I know cleaned coins are considered taboo in the coin world but they don't bother me. The cleaned coins are actually more affordable for great details most times. I've bought many cleaned coins for my collection. The way I see it is I still get a great coin without breaking the bank and I'm not expecting to get rich off of them anyways. I just want a good example. I do draw the line at holed coins, I will never buy those ones, to me those are damaged.

      Google the date and name of coin and type ngc and/or pcgs at the end of your google search and you'll find a free price guide and you can get a range of prices/values for those coins. It's hard to give you the exact value without seeing/knowing the condition and if there is any damage or cleaning to the coins as that can drastically change any numismatic value. Also the red book and grey sheet are the better price guides, but I don't think the have a Free price guide online. Good Luck.

    This 1796 Draped Bust does look like artificially toned indeed. Tone look way to even on obverse when in normal condition the face should be brighter than fields. Also there should be much darker areas when field is meeting the relief. Reverse is even more obvious, eagle is much darker than area just around him. Such thing could be possible if coin was never touched and survived in mint condition. Unfortunately this coin is in fine condition so it mean it was in circulation and the whole tone is just wrong or should I say unreal for such coin. In my opinion coin was cleaned and re toned.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад

      It seems like the auction house suspected that the toning looked wrong. I guess they were unable to say for certain but they did mark on the label and it will result in a lower price but it is still a rare coin even with artificial toning.

    Great coins, wonder what grades they would get at NGC; I am struggling with the grades in my head... what are your thoughts sir?

      I suspect details grading for graffiti and toning but still expensive nice coins

      They are very nice sir and I thank you for your quick response, I don't know why, but the half dime to me is my favorite of the coins on this video due to when I lived in California the coin dealer told me about how many half dimes were melted by the government and phased out with 5 cent silvers/nickels.

    Great looking coins right there! I suppose that Morgan was wiped with a cloth or was in someone's pocket for a spell!

      The toning is subject to many things! The coins could of been in a flood or frozen even heat & humidity can have an effect on them! Who know where they have been all these years! ;)~ Burnie.
