I'm probably going to be buried in the comments but I really wanted to say how incredibly well I think you handled this whole situation surrounding the readathon. I watched that whole long video, and as I commented down there: I think we all support and understand your decision, no matter what that would be. You probably found the perfect middleground with this solution. I love the effort you put into it, despite it all, and I also love you taking a stand by not hosting it on Twitter anymore. You put so much effort into making this a safe and comfortable community for everbody, and that shows how great of a human being you are! Thank you
@@BookRoast it's okay if some people are unhappy: you can't please everybody, no matter what you do. I think you made the best decision you could have made, and it's even more important that it feels right to you.
@@BookRoast I must say, that I am really looking forward to seeing what creative prompts you will come up with next year. and what the style will be. While I like the idea of an education setting, I can understand it's a big project so don't stretch yourself too thin. We're leaving Hogwarts so we might have to do a bit of camping or use temporary accommodation for a year before we find a new setting or place. It's going to be an amazing adventure and I'm really excited to start it! If you need any help with ideas, you know where we are! ^_^ ~x I have ideas...
I'm happy it's not on twitter. I have an account but I hardly use it. I really just like trying to read as many books as possible for the month. O.W.L.S were great because of the extra classes you could take to add more books! Loved it.
Thank you for releasing the NEWTs prompts for people like me who are completionists!! I really appreciate it. Although, I'm a little sad as I'm sure everyone is, I will always support you and your decisions pertaining this. Thank you for creating everything!! It's been the funnest, most well thought out readathon I've been a part of for the past three years 💕
This year I participated in the OWLs for the first time and I was really looking forward to the NEWTs. Thank you for releasing the prompts anyway and I hope to participate in your new readathon!
I'm so grateful that you still created this for us, whilst you definitely didn't have to! Thank you so much, G! On our way to graduate from Hogwarts just to start a new magical adventure next year!
I'm so excited! You're right too, it is like we are graduating from Hogwards to go on a new adventure. I thought I would be really upset about it, but now we get to complete the NEWTS, I just can't wait!
Literally cried at the end of your NEWTs clip. I understand so, so much, but I will continue to participate in your readathons because it makes me feel like I’m hanging out with a friend. 🖤
Hugs for you G. You did your best with what you were given and I respect and support your decision. I was extremely sad and cried for good hour when you announced your decision so I can't imagine how you feel about it. I'll be happy to participate in a magical readathon all of your making next year. I just want you to know that I respect you a lot as a person and as a creator based on how you handled things.
I completely understand and support your idea to change the way you're approaching the magical readathon from here on out. But as a completionist I also do very much appreciate that you still took your time to finish up this year (even if I would have absolutely understood if you didn't). Thank you for putting so much time, love and care into what is easily my favorite readathon to join. You've worked very hard for so long on it and I'm just excited to see how you change it around! You've done amazing!
I only discovered booktube this year (crazy, given how I’ve always loved reading) and this NEWTS will be my first readathon and I’m so excited☺️. Sad I’ll have missed the Harry Potter-specific themed version, but am equally excited to see your new version - it’s so creative of you. My anxiety has been so bad lately, but this will give me a nice positive distraction for August (plus it’s my bday month) and hopefully help me stop worrying about university in September. So thank you so much for all your dedication and hard work 💛💛💛
I just wanted to say that the way you have handled the readathon has been very thoughtful and I’ve found watching your videos have really helped me process during this time. I cannot wait to see what you come up with for your own magical school 💕
Hello, it's me again ... with the idea of the marathon with signs of the zodiac, houses can be the seasons of the year and like this you could divide the signs and there are thousands of ideas for challenges, readings and even the names of everything. 🙊🙈
I'm happy that the readathon gets its conclusion and I am already looking forward to what you create for next year! You are so talented and creative. Thank you for sharing that talent and creativity with all of us.
I am so hyped for the remaking of the readathon for 2021, I know you’re going to create something magical and amazing and I’m excited to support it ❤️💜
Book Roast I love your honesty and although I only discovered you and you and your readathons back in March/May... I am so happy to have found you. You are doing the right thing. I have a question about your new magical readathon next year which I would love to be part of. Will you being doing videos on here of your new readathon when it commences? And where can I join in with it?

I only discovered your channel 2 weeks ago & I was so excited to dive right in. I’ve been flying through the OWLS & this morning I placed my order for my NEWTS study material. I’m heartbroken to arrive at the end but I’d just like to say that the amount of time and creative energy you have spent on this is so clear to me. It really is magical & I’m so excited for you to make it your own ✨💕 Thank you for the massive spark of joy you’ve given me. I might be late to the party or maybe I‘ve arrived just in time for the real show to begin! 📚💗✨
I am sad about it ending but also very excited to see what you come up with! It'll be like a new start, we can all start as "grade 1" or "level 1" and make our way through the years together.
I'm happy with your decision, I hope that your magical school has a readathon in August still! August is the worst time of the year for me and the N.E.W.T.S readathon and the community has been the best thing for me to power through the heavy emotional time.
Always enjoyed these readathons and hugely appreciated the amount of effort you went through each year (especially with the careers) I'll be joining in whatever the new readathon will be too.
The purple slow feeder looks like some insane form of torture device, and I love it. My cats are getting old and don't really like to play anymore, but I need to get one of those light up ball freeways like AJ got your boys. Because that is hysterical. The book Don't Date Rosa Santos has a relationship between the main character and her family, including her grandmother. It's been awhile since I read it, but the family dynamic is fantastic. My library's comic app has volume 1 of Excellence, pulling it up now. The creator's note hit me hard, because of the nephew. Sigh. New video concept: Top 10 best books to listen to while having a migraine attack. Instant classic. Oh, my love. My heart aches (less than yours, obviously, as I am not inflamed). Your readathons were some of the best I've seen on Booktube, and the only ones I've ever been excited for. And it wasn't about Harry Potter, that was just a fun bonus. It was because of you. Your energy, your spirit, your enthusiasm. That was what made the readathons magical, not some idiot woman who couldn't put one LGBT character in 7 books. Fffffffffffffs. Anyway, I could talk for days about how angry I am that you lost your readathon because of her. But here's the thing I know about you. You are BRILLIANT. I don't want my comment to get tagged for obscenities, otherwise I'd say you're (bleeping) brilliant. You don't do anything by half, you have the too much gene. And I know that you're going to make the readathon even better, even more you, and we're all going to be here ready for it. This isn't the end. It's only the beginning.
Hope you are feeling well now. I have been a fan of yours for years now and have participated in all of your O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s and it was not because they were Harry Potter inspired but because you created such a wonderful readathon/experience. You are what made it special. I can understand how hard this whole situation has been for you and completely understand ending this chapter of the readathons, but I look forward to your magical university and whatever magical world you create, because I know it will be just as amazing as you are. :) Sending hugs your way!
your decision was SO well made and i'm just so proud to say that i love and support you everyday! i'm sorry your mental health hasn't been top notch but in my eyes are someone who can genuinely overcome anything and i'm so excited to see where you go from here on out! much love for you G! xx
As much as I am sad about the decisions I will look out for your readathon in future as I found the Harry Potter inspired ones great fun and I am sure what you do in future will be just as great! Thank you for all the hard, hard work and long hours you put into creating the O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s I am going to do the N.E.W.T.s as I want to complete at least 1 year! Look forward to seeing you in future!
I don't think I'll be taking part in the NEWTs this year, but I appreciate you finishing up the readathon in completion. I'm so so excited to see what you create in the future! I'm sure you'll take all the best aspects from the Magical Readathon and make another readathon that's incredible!
thank you for introducing me to a love of readathons i participated in the N.E.W.T's last year and it was incredibly uplifting a light. i hope we provide that light the Magical Readthon has given you and i hope we provide a brighter light too. you'll always be seeking and you'll find a better light we're with you. be gentle thank you so much
Thank you so much for still sharing this with us and all your hard work. I really enjoy your readathons and super look forward to the magical readathon next year!
G, I have to say how inspiring you truly are to a booknerd Momma like me with a serious love of all things magical and with some severe depression and crippling anxiety. I mean don't get me wrong your inspiring period.point.blank. I've been watching your channel for several years and it's freakin awesome to see that you've been true to yourself since your first videos. You can just tell that your a truly authentic person who doesn't let outside forces come in and change who you are regardless of how many subscribers you gain. It's truly rare to see that in this crazy world we live in. Like I stated above I have some mental health issues and as you know it can be very hard to live a somewhat "normal" day to day life because of it. (But what fun is being normal anyways? LOL) Some days I can't even get out of bed because of my crippling anxiety. Seeing you be able to own it and really put yourself out there in front of the camera and the youtube universe gives me so much strength to just be myself and not let other people's opinions of what they think I deal with on pretty much a daily basis. I guess what i'm trying to say is............ Thank You for making me feel like i'm not alone in this and that it's completely okay to have your own "hogwarts battle" in life with whatever issues you might be struggling with and it doesn't make you any less of a wonderful human being.
A man calle Ove is an amazing book - you'll laugh and cry with it ( there is also a Swedish movie made for it which is also brilliant!). Other books by the same author, Fredrik Backman, with elderly people that I would recommend are 'My grandmother asked me to tell you she is sorry' and 'Britt-Marie was here'
I only participates for the first time this year in the owls. While I'm sad it's ending, I'm super super excited for your own version of the readathon and I'm looking forward to participating
I understand the pain of rib inflammation. I have gotten several times lot throughout my years. And it seems like it takes a while to heal. But it can be painful. I use an ice pack sometimes on mine to help. But lately I use peppermint essential oil on them.
Thank you for releasing the newts prompts. I'm glad that I can finish what I started. But I'm very excited for the new readathon next year. Also the pink soup looks nice. I may try it at some point.
I’m glad you’re talking about continuing it as your own magical school!! I loved these readathons but I never had a specific connection to Harry Potter so I did them as if it was any school! I can’t wait to participate next year!! ❤️
I wanted to thank you for your great work with the Readathon. I’ve been participating since the first one and even though the readthons are going to end as they were, I’m really excited about the new chapter that’s opening and what the future is going to look for your readathons. Thank you thank you thank you
I'm glad there isn't a time on the newts. I wasn't really hardcore with HP. I just love the idea of a Magical University for next year. This was my first year doing Owls and I'm so interested for next year. Hopefully it won't be a time limited. Maybe a year long Readathon. Planning on taking time time with Newts. As I'm also doing another Readathon that a year long with and trying to catch up on. I hope you feel better soon. I also miss watching your planner videos.
A Man Called Ove is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time!!! Ahh I hope you read it I think you would love it. All of Fredrik Backman’s books are so heartwarming 💖💖
PLEASE keep doing the magical readathons!!! They’ve really helped give me something to focus on! If it’s not Harry Potter themed that’s okay but please do create your own!
So sorry you’ve been feeling so crummy lately! I love to see your content know matter what and hope you are on the mend and for sure going easy on yourself! 💕
Hi. I am taking part in the NEWTs... I couldn't leave it incomplete. But it has nothing to do with the fact that they are HP based, I am only taking part because it is a readathon that you are hosting. I mean, seriously, if you should for some reason decide tomorrow to start a readathon based on potatoes (no offence to potatoes, they are lovely veggies), I would just think, Oh, cool, G is hosting a readathon. I MUST take part. And I'm sure there are many other people who are of a similar opinion. Your creativity, talent and general loveliness are what pull us to your channel. Thank you for bringing us so much joy.
I love love love the crazy cat tunnel. I want a human size one :) I also love your channel and everything you done. I will be doing the readathon, you have put so much effort into it and it truly is your world and no one else's :D. You have found a middle ground that suits everyone. My only wish is that you do find a way to love it more and complete your magical universe how you want it. Cannot wait to see what next year brings for you . Stay awesome and thank you for creating 2020 N.E.W.T.s
A great book involving multiple generations is Edgar and Lucy by Victor Lodato. It is a slow read but I inevitably wanted it to last even longer once I finished it! Highly recommend!
I know it's not key message of the video but I had to pause when I saw Mlekovita :D Being an expat is sometimes a huge struggle, I know I miss my family all the time, so sending you all the warm vibes and well wishes!
I've missed your vlogs soo much, I clicked on this one pretty fast.. lol. I loved the clips with your cats and their new toys. 😍 love spoiling the fur babies. ❤ also, I hope you're feeling better now. I can't wait for your next vlog. 😁
Highly recommend Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout if you're looking for older characters! Its a pretty profound, emotional read about life and growing older.
Another good book about an older person is the five people you meet in heaven by Mich Albom. One of my favorite books which I was made to do for high school English.
Sending you love, G 🥰 Your videos bring me and so many others joy and we appreciate all of the content you create! I'm not sure I feel up to completing the N.E.W.T.S, but I'm looking forward to next year and whatever adventure you decide to take us on! You Should See Me In A Crown is on my TBR, it sounds really fun 😊 ~Laura
I loved watching the cats play. So much fun. I'm sorry you're having a tough time right now. I can relate - both with the health issues and the mental health. Oooh that is an interesting concept for a comic. I don't think I've ever seen a more fantasy based comic before either. I've had a fair few migraine attacks lately too. Not a fan... You Should See Me in a Crown sounds kind of cute. I'm picky with contemporaries, but I might have to look into that a bit sometime. Instalove isn't really my thing, but I don't despise it? Honestly it just depends on how it's done. But hearing you compare it to Heartstopper makes me interested. I'm so excited to see your new plans for the new Magical Readathon. I've been attempting to do so many readathons lately and I usually end up extending them on my own because life is chaotic haha. Thank you for creating all of us to enjoy and for how much creativity and energy you put into it. I had a ton of fun participating the few times I could. I really enjoyed this as always
I'm sad that you won't be making the readathon Harry Potter related but I completely understand why you don't want to make it magical anymore. Looking forward to seing what you come up with because you're always so creative & will gladly participate in any readathon you create :D
If you want to read another book that features an older lady I highly recommend We Are All Made of Glue by Marina Lewycka! :) It's about a younger woman (in her 30's I think?) who separates from her husband and then connects to a strange lady living in her neighbourhood and all the shenanigans that happen after that.
I've loved your readathon! Thank you, and thank you for your sensitive handling of "the situation." May I ask - will there be printable certificates of completion for the N.E.W.T.s?
Have you thought about collaborating with any booktube/ authortube members for your new Readathon? You can create a new world and story with an author and plan out the classes and lore and such. And then theres so many artist that I bet will want to collaborate to make a whole new universe for your readathon to live in.
This was my first year doing the OWLS and NEWTs readathons and I'm so sad it will be my last. I wish she would just shut up and educate herself. Harry Potter means so much to me and it really hurts that I can't really talk about how much I love it.
Hi G! Thank you for the time and work you put on for the NEWTS! This was my first time participating in rhe OWLS and so I appreciate that you've allowed us to complete the exams by creating the prompts and such. I just had one question, is tere any way I could get the O in Charms besides having to read a manga? I don't read manga so I don't own any, nor was I planning on buying any anytime soon. I understand that this could also be said for any other prompt that mentions a specific genre, but one may borrow from the library more easily a novel than a manga, at least where I'm from (Portugal). So I was wondering if there was any way around this. If not, it's ok, I'll just go for another career :)
A man called Ove!!! I haven't read the book but I've watched the movie. Its in Swedish with English subtitles. It was such a good movie but my god did it make me ball my eyes out. Highly recommend.
Thank you for putting this together and your delicacy with the whole situation. If you need help re-designing the booklets for next years readathon, let me know! I am a graphic designer ^.^
You are an amazing human being. I loved your cat toys!! Now I want to get some for my cat, Sirius Black (guess his colour 🤣😂). Thanks for doing all this for us!! Love you and missed you loads. I doubt you'll need me, but I'm here if you ever want to talk. Hugs!!
I was on medication for depression and anxiety disorder for a year, it saved my life. Now I'm taking madication for something else, it helps with that thing but also messes up my mood and because I've been ignoring it and even adding to that by REALLY not taking care of myself, it went deeper and deeper. And because of how strong and heavy the new medication is on my body, I can't take antidepressants. For a moment I was suicidal again, luckily I've battled that somehow myself. It just reminded me, that depression isn't like chickenpox - you go through it once and that's it. It's rather a constant battle and being on guard, taking care of yourself and learning new things about yourself every day. And trying to REMAIN CALM, the older I get, the easier that is :) EDIT: CHŁODNIK!!!
if you can handle it i would really recommend you read A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman!! The main character is an old grumpy man, without any friends, who one day starts having some lovely relationships. I will warn you though, since it deals with some pretty though themes (primarily loss and suicide), so, for me at least, it was pretty emotional.
Hey G, I had such a moment of „yes this is migraine!“ when you said migraine day 1 and showed 2 fingers... it make you feel, like a few more of your brain cells died in the process... for me it’s finding the right words... hang in there. I know from myself that any comforting words fall flat, so I won’t say them, but I hope you know what I mean.
Hah, I'm glad to know someone else struggles to think when with a migraine, it really makes simple things so difficult! :D But I am sad you can relate at the same time
Book Roast thank you :) Over the years, I’ve developed a bit of a fatalistic approach to my migraine. It’s only debilitating when I have it and I won’t die because of it. So in the shitty things fate can do to you category, it’s not as bad as it could be. But then again, when I have it, I still want to chop my head off...
Will there be diplomas this year? I have last year's in my folder of achievement certificates and it would be really cool to have another one. If it's too much for you though, don't worry!!! Really proud of you for doing this. ♥

I can understand how hard this whole situation has been for you and completely understand ending this chapter of the readathons, but I look forward to your magical university and whatever magical world you create, because I know it will be just as amazing as you are. :) Sending hugs your way!
your decision was SO well made and i'm just so proud to say that i love and support you everyday! i'm sorry your mental health hasn't been top notch but in my eyes are someone who can genuinely overcome anything and i'm so excited to see where you go from here on out! much love for you G! xx
Thank you 🖤
I think favourite moment of this was “yayy, food. Ok I’ll speak to you later” 🤣 #relatable
Hahah my true self 😂
Love you G! And please dont worry about the readathon i have no doubt you will come up with something amazing! Hope you feel well soon
thank you for introducing me to a love of readathons i participated in the N.E.W.T's last year and it was incredibly uplifting a light. i hope we provide that light the Magical Readthon has given you and i hope we provide a brighter light too. you'll always be seeking and you'll find a better light we're with you. be gentle thank you so much
Yay! New video! So happy! Clicked so fast! Love your videos!! 💚
Hope you enjoy! x
@@BookRoast I definitly will! 😊
Other books by the same author, Fredrik Backman, with elderly people that I would recommend are 'My grandmother asked me to tell you she is sorry' and 'Britt-Marie was here'
I still want to read all of these, especially 'My grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry'. The synopsis is so precious.
Same, i only read the first book and that was all for Owls. I like the idea of the Magical School.
thanks for bringing this read-a-thon to us it meant a lot to me too. however, i am super excited for the magical university. like so excited 😍😍
Looking forward to a great readathon next year... I’m sure you will come up with something amazing
I can't wait to be a student in your magical university! 💚 it will be an amazing experience and I love the idea!
So proud of you. We’re with you every step of the way! 🥰
Love the kittens trying out their new stuff, they're the cutest!
Missed your vlogs! Thanks for the shout out G! Your content makes me so happy. ❤
I wanted to thank you for your great work with the Readathon. I’ve been participating since the first one and even though the readthons are going to end as they were, I’m really excited about the new chapter that’s opening and what the future is going to look for your readathons. Thank you thank you thank you
I got soooo soooooo happy when I saw you uploaded! Hope you are feeling better! ♥️♥️♥️ Now gonna watch the video. 😊 Lots of hugs and love!
Thanks for everything you did for us so far
This thumbnail is perfection and brought me so many giggles today ☺❤
I’m so excited to see what you come up with in the future!
A potato based readathon you say? 🤔 do not tempt me hahah Aw but thank you so much for your support! 💖 It really means a lot!
Yay! Back with a 40 min vlog, super happy 💙
I love love love the crazy cat tunnel. I want a human size one :)
I also love your channel and everything you done.
Highly recommend!
can we have recommendation sheet for the books to get ideas for some of the prompts
I know it's not key message of the video but I had to pause when I saw Mlekovita :D Being an expat is sometimes a huge struggle, I know I miss my family all the time, so sending you all the warm vibes and well wishes!
Thank you so much G!!! You are just the loveliest
What was the cat toy that MoMo was playing with? The one with the light-up ball in that snake-y tunnel?
I've missed your vlogs soo much, I clicked on this one pretty fast.. lol. I loved the clips with your cats and their new toys. 😍 love spoiling the fur babies. ❤ also, I hope you're feeling better now. I can't wait for your next vlog. 😁
Highly recommend Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout if you're looking for older characters! Its a pretty profound, emotional read about life and growing older.
Last time I was this fast I'd actually read something this month
hahah oof the self burn! :D
Appreciate all the hard work you have done! It is truly appreciAted!
Many hugs, G. I love your readathons and will continue to participate in whichever form they take in 2021 >3
Your cat has the most gorgeous eyes 🥺
So lovely to see you in my subscriptions again. Hope you are doing okay. 💜💜💜
Thank you! I hope you're doing well too!
Another good book about an older person is the five people you meet in heaven by Mich Albom. One of my favorite books which I was made to do for high school English.
Thank you, G. 💕 I can't wait for the new readathon. 🏳️🌈
"are you smart? Or will you starve?" The 77th Annual Hunger Games have begun. May the odd be ever in your favour 😂😹
Let me know how the slow-feed bowls work! One of my cats has a vomiting problem also.
They didn't sadly take to them! So they were just sort of rather not eating at all instead of eating slowly, couldn't quite figure out the bowls :D
You’re a superhero 💖 x
Yaaay! So happy to see a new video ❤️
Aw thank you for watching! :D
Thanks for all your hard work ^_^ I am sure the new readathon will be magical :D just take care of yourself :D
The Last Reunion is a futuristic murder mystery involving elderly people. I flew through it. Its a little comedic as well.
I'm so excited. Will you be vlogging your own progress?
A man called Ove!!! I haven't read the book but I've watched the movie. Its in Swedish with English subtitles. It was such a good movie but my god did it make me ball my eyes out. Highly recommend.
Can I do my NEWTs if I didn't do my OWLs?
You are amazing
It might be a bit confusing but hey there are no hard rules here, whatever brings you happiness! You can still do OWLs too though if you wish! ^^
@@BookRoast thank you!!!
@@BookRoast (you know McGonagal wouldn't allow that! )
For older people friendships try The Weekend by Charlotte Wood, check out the synopsis see what you think.
Thank you for putting this together and your delicacy with the whole situation. If you need help re-designing the booklets for next years readathon, let me know! I am a graphic designer ^.^
Hi G! Will we be getting our diplomas after the NEWTs?
love the migraine cocoon - fellow migraineur here!
You are an amazing human being. I loved your cat toys!! Now I want to get some for my cat, Sirius Black (guess his colour 🤣😂). Thanks for doing all this for us!! Love you and missed you loads.
I doubt you'll need me, but I'm here if you ever want to talk. Hugs!!
Will there be printables for N.E.W.T. certificates of completion? Thanks!
N.e.w.t.s 🥰🌟
Go for The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83 1/4 Years Old, by Hendrik Groen. It's adorable.
Is the spreadsheet and the submission page going to stay up past August 31
Hi! Yes, I will try to make them and upload to the same link where the prompts are now by the end of August x
@@BookRoast Thank you!!! ♥
