Yes I know, Katharine Hepburn won four. But Meryl had so much more nominations. So with Meryl to attend through all these years, it must be exhausting.
I love Viola's horrified facial expressions. I know it's all in fun, and we all play these games, but she didn't want to throw anyone under the bus and I really respect that.
lol her face as Andy is going into each question is hilarious. I don't care what anyone says, Meryl Streep is like the Aretha of the acting world. No one gets upset losing to her.
She should've won for Doubt over Penelope Cruz. She introduced Meryl for the honorary Cecile B Demille Award at the Golden Globes and she showed nothing but the utmost admiration for her.
stregadisalem Penélope Cruz's performance was better. Although Viola Davis was really good in "Doubt", I think the reason why her performance was weaker is because she barely had time on-screen. That's why I prefer Penélope's.
Viola Davis gave a stupendous job in "Doubt" and held her own with Meryl STreep in that great scene. But Streep had the leading role and exploded later on in the film, creating something riveting and hair raising. In "Irton Lady", Streep again blew the ceiling down over her competition, though Davis was wonderful in "The Help". Viola Davis will eventually win an Oscar, no doubt. She's one of the greatest actresses out there. An outstanding actress who can move mountains. Bravo to her and may Streep reign for years to come. Both are fabulous.
@Rosabbasfriend: Both Streep and Davis deserved Oscars for "Doubt". I loved Davis in "The Help", but Streep blew my mind in "The Iron Lady". The REAL fact is that Streep had gone for eighteen years with a slew of nominations since her second Oscar, and that "Doubt" was the film for which she should have won the best-actress Oscar, along with Viola Davis for supporting-actress. It didn't happen. Kate Winslett in "The Reader" should not have won over Streep. However, "The Iron Lady" brought Streep awards from all over the world, and her performance WAS incredible. Besides, I didn't want Viola Davis to win for playing a maid. I'm SO glad that she's a shoo-in for "Fences", for which she truly deserves an Oscar. Also, she and Street are very, very close friends and they admire each other tremendously. I wouldn't be surprised if they reunite for another project.
I was once upon a time ago too young to catch a lot of Meryl Streep's earliest performances, but I started going back to watch her early dramatic roles and the woman freaked me out: she is a chameleon. It really made me understand why her peers half-joking, half-seriously speak of her in hushed tones and refer to her as "The Great One" Viola I also absolutely adore and am so happy for the level of success she's ascended to, for me she is a true Hollywood star in every way, from her film, tv and stage choices, to her wonderful personality, her eloquence on her craft, and her sense of style! She's a Hollywood Classic in every way.
@stylecollective: You are so right! If one sees Meryl Streep's ENTIRE body of work, they can't help but be astonished. I know of no actress, living or historical, who has massed such a gallery of diversified characters. She is the most honored and revered American actress ever. She and Viola Davis are very close friends and it was Viola that Meryl wanted to do her tribute at the Golden Globes. Davis is entering her golden period, and you can be sure that Oscar will be hers THIS year for "Fences".
Larry Mitchell I agree. Just on technical complexity, Streep deserved the Oscar. Viola Davis - although very much her own person - is the heir to Meryl in terms of astonishing talent and breadth. I adore Viola. I want to see her shine until the very end.
Viola will be nominated MANY more times. I WANT to want her to have won for Doubt, but it was 7 (albeit POWERFUL) minutes, and Penelope made me die laughing in Vicky Cristina Barcelona And Meryl in The Iron Lady was insanely good So I'm not pissed, but I KNOW she will be nominated many more times and win several times
I agree. She's only just begun to take the world by storm, I see her career being FIRE for some time to come. I hope she'll be more active on the international film festival circuit so that global audiences will have the chance to get to know her work.
It begins with the projects being released. We have to have quality work being released, but then we also have to make sure we have the support in our community for films that aren't just romantic comedies, and show up in the theatres so that they have box office power.
Penelope was great in VCB, but Viola was my winner for Doubt in that year. She was MINDBLOWING. In The Help she was also great , but Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain stole the show a bit. She finally got the Oscar for Fences, no debate, one of the most deserved supporting actress win... (and Denzel Washington in that movie. jesus christ.)
@stryfetc1 it was better...she changed her look and acclimatized to a British accent and sound almost the same like Margaret Thatcher...while Davis' performance was great as well but she technically played a black woman(herself)
Meryl was incredible of course but imo what also tipped the votes in her favor was the fact that she also played Thatcher as an old lady, long after she'd left office; so its like she played two different characters.
Andy R Okay, riiiiiight!! lol I just realized that I have my Penelope's mixed up. I was reading Cruz but envisioning Ann-Miller!! :-) Thanks for helping me straighten things out!
Andy got the question wrong. I think Viola lost to Octavia for The Help. Viola was nominated for best supporting actress if I’m not mistaken not the Best Actress category. So she lost to Octavia not Meryl. Pretty sure she isn’t upset about that but definitely about Penelope Cruz
Has Andy ever asked that Oscar question to a man? He probably never has. If Leo DiCaprio was on that show, Andy would probably not ask him that question despite the fact Leo has been nominated for 7 Oscars and has won once.
After watching the entire episode on this today I felt this interview was off. Something must have happened behind the scenes because Andy was throwing shade.
She is one of the most talented actresses around. The fact that she doesn't have an Oscar is mind blowing.
She won for Fences. Best Supporting Actress.
jeanvan orinoco She could’ve won Best Actress had it not been for category manipulation.
She does now.
@@CeliniacForLife No thank God she wasn't nominated in lead. Emma would win anyways and Viola will remain Oscarless
Like, for what? I've only ever seen her in The Help.
I love Viola's wigs they look so natural. She's amazing in every way.
that's a wig?lol
chasemebaby Why do yall have to clock the tea when a black celebrity is wearing fake hair 😩😂 sometimes lets just let them wonder damn
I thought it was her real hair, looks legit
twistedblktrekie it’s no surprise we can all tell it’s s wig 💁🏽♀️💇🏿♀️
She's a fake and she can't wait to join the Deep State with Oprah!
"Aww man I should have killed Hugh!" Hahaha
Jamecia I would have married him! 🙃
I think she was more upset to lose to Penelope. Who could ever be upset or mad at Meryl Streep?!
Meryl didn't deserve it for the Iron Lady.
Penelope was a lot more deserving of her win than Streep was for hers.
Meryl won 3 Oscars since 1979, that is not many.
Yes I know, Katharine Hepburn won four. But Meryl had so much more nominations. So with Meryl to attend through all these years, it must be exhausting.
Lilyofthemyst Penelope what was she even nominated for
Her reaction to the second question litterally is "WHY THE HELL DID I COME TO THAT SHOW" XD
I love Viola's horrified facial expressions. I know it's all in fun, and we all play these games, but she didn't want to throw anyone under the bus and I really respect that.
Viola's expressions were hilarious in this. She was so bewildered.
lol her face as Andy is going into each question is hilarious. I don't care what anyone says, Meryl Streep is like the Aretha of the acting world. No one gets upset losing to her.
Tough to get angry losing to the GOAT. Penelope Cruz on the other hand ...
meryl can drown
her faces!!!!! hilarious lmao
This woman is AWESOME!

I prefer penelope in vicky christina barcelona.
i know for a fact it was penelope cruz that she was most upset about. lol cus meryl is in her lane in acting.
You probably haven't seen enough of her Spanish films, she is fantastic.
I love Penelope but I love Naomi more
Penelope Cruz deserved her Oscar, Meryl Streep did not!
@@andrewmark2783 yes she did!!
@@DK_75 Streeps Thatcher wasn't even worthy of an SNL sketch, let alone an Oscar winning film.
The scene in Doubt with Streep was amazing!

Who can't love this woman! She's amazing!
Viola Davis is just EVERYTHING. She’s my friend in my head
Why is she taking this so serious?! I can see her heart beating, like she's being questioned at Guantanamo bay
Mich
I think it's just her way of being playful. I didn't see it as her taking it seriously
Also the guests are always plastered
Also shes a genuinely nice lady.....im sure she doesn’t wanna offend any of her co-stars.
Cause she's the real deal baby !

No... Meryl streep deserved more

@stryfetc1 oh i see..
Meryl Streep definitely deserved to win. She literally became Margaret Thatcher.
stryfetc1 she did win an Oscar for “Fences”
Meryl was incredible of course but imo what also tipped the votes in her favor was the fact that she also played Thatcher as an old lady, long after she'd left office; so its like she played two different characters.
I hear you Viola and love you for all you are and all you do!
Love her purple eye shadow
"He sounded like he was a Klingon" LMBAO.
I ADORE Viola!!!
Her skin is so BEAUTIFUL and GLOWING. My beautiful sistea.
Viola has an infectious laugh ! 😆
Thank you Viola for being such a great sport!!
Love, love, love Viola Davis! Can't wait to see her on Fences
I LOVVVVED Doubt, it's surprising to me how many people haven't seen it
Her facial expressions got me weak lol
I want that lipstick! 💄
Why did she change to from marrying Hugh to killing him when she realized she had to kill one of them hahaha🤣☠️
Cuz on every show/movie she's in she's always married to a white man and end up Killing him in the end lol
Six months later, she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 'Fences.'
This show is really beneath her...
I felt the same way haha
The caliber of actresses he gets on is really impressive. Her, Meryl Streep, Laura Linney, Cate Blanchett, etc.
I love her bright makeup here! So pretty!
Seeing Viola laughing and smiling is a little unsettling in context to the types of characters see plays.
Viola knew Terrence was NOT speaking proper Xhosa! 😂😂
Vi has incredible arms.
She should’ve won best supporting for “Solaris” with George Clooney. He called her performance a power house. And, that’s no hype.
can anyone see her thinking “wtf kinda questions”
did not expect the shag marry and kill answer lol
The pause after the first question.😂😭
I love Viola so much 💛
Oh how I love Viola Davis!!!
I just see a lawyer hahaha
Who is the guest sitting next to Viola on the right?
Joel Kinnamon
I think she was more pissed to lose to Penelope as well. She adores Meryl and her work and it's vice versa for her with the way Meryl feels about her.
Lol it seems like she’s never played/heard of F Marry Kill... Annalise would know 😂
He looks like that guy named Smiley on the old SNL episodes.
I love Viola Davis omg!!!
Man this woman can act!
viola Davis is the most amazing actress
Her look of horror upon hearing 'shag marry kill' haha
Great actress
She look so nervous its too cute!
I love her!
Can someone tell me the name of the guy who gives a show to this guy with squinting eyes please??
Viola, you're stunning!! Love your hair, love those amazing red lips, love your eyeshadow, love your dress!!
viola is too good for that show. she must be a nice person IRL to agree to this.
I ADORE HER
2:05 _"He did?"_ I feel like she wasn't very happy being there, I guess.
Her face...😂
Andy Cohen you better run lmao
She's gonna win this year, tho...
Love her.
LOVE HER
I love her
I don't understand why VI's net worth is only 3 million
This woman is in a league of her own.
Viola davis is great like herr ❤❤❤❤
Viola Davis the great 👍🏽
I want Viola to narrate all of my Audible books
I love Bob the drag queen!!!
👍😄😂
Sam Adams bahahahahah
HAHAHAHAHAHHAA
OMG deaddddd
Love Viola! She better win that oscar for "Fences"
The answer was Penelope.
Yeah. But Meryl was more than deserving. She's phenomenal.
Who's the guy next to Viola?
Dwiki Halla he is joel kinneman. Plays in the killing which is awesome
Has anyone ever actually answered the “lost the Oscar” question?
i came here for joel!!!
Who's the other guy sitting next to her?
Joel Kinnaman, her Suicide Squad co-star.
Penelope Cruz has an Oscar?!!!
Mike X yea dude. She won the oscar for best supporting actress for her role in "Vicky Christina Barcelona", directed by Woody Allen.
Andy R Okay, riiiiiight!! lol I just realized that I have my Penelope's mixed up. I was reading Cruz but envisioning Ann-Miller!! :-) Thanks for helping me straighten things out!
Mike X oooh, i see haha. yea, sure thing man :)
she'll be getting an Oscar this year!! #2017
You missed the word "not" in the title.
She was more upset losing to Penelope Cruz (i adore her) because that movie was awful.
Is that Carisi from Law and Order SVU with her?

She looks so uncomfortable. It’s so hilarious.
I think of Viola Davis as one of the m ost bold and exuberant and fearless people onthe planet, and she looks TERRIFIED here lol. God bless her.
Viola was nominated for Best Actress in The Help. She ultimately lost to Meryl Streep.
I love Bob the Drag Queen! 😍
who's the guy?
Joel Kinnaman
She was mad at Penelope lol

...poor viola...she looks soooooooo scared to play "plead the 5th"... 😱
misleading title bro
"I should've killed Hugh!"
