There's Mason Alexander Park as the Emcee!!! I've been a fan of theirs since they were in a local production of Cabaret here in the US so it's very very surreal and awesome to see them playing the same role on the West End. The whole cast looks wonderful too - wish I could go see them!
I would give a kidney to see this live with this cast. Mason Alexander Park looks absolutely FABULOUS. Cabaret has been my favorite show since I first saw it back in 2018.
Im heartbroken I didnt have the chance to see Mason and Maude. Everyone brings their own flavour, but Mason just absolutely owns it. They deserve the role on Broadway.
Wow! Maude is such an underrated talent holy crap!!! I saw her in Little Shop of Horrors, and she was amazing as well!!! No idea she could do this, so much range!
I don’t buy her as Sally. She seems too young and inexperienced. And it’s not a role that needs a strong singer, but it absolutely needs a fantastic actress, and I wouldn’t put Maude Apataw up there with Jessie Buckley, Liza Minnelli, Emma Stone, or Natasha Richardson. Maybe in like 5-10 years she’d be better.
@@Sharpe1502 i actually saw Aimee Lou Wood, who is quite young, take an entirely different spin on the role creating a younger far more naive sally which was absolutely heart wrenching and so different! I saw her 4 times because of it - she was just a perfect sally. imo better than jessie but she was fab too.
Nothing wrong with a youthful Sally, and gotta disagree on singing talent. There’s some pretty big songs there, I hate it when they cast a Sally who isn’t a strong singer.
@@jdlund Yeah! I know Sally isn’t supposed to be the best singer, at least that’s what I’ve heard, but from the performances I’ve watched you can obviously tell that all the actors to have portrayed her are strong singers which is amazing! I was there to see Maude perform on the West End stage last Tuesday and she was absolutely wonderful! And yall you gotta be there for the prologue too.
i saw cabaret at the kit kat club in london on july 6th, and alternate emily benjamin was sally bowles !!! every single moment of this show was just incredible. emily benjamin was mind blowing and haunting. mason alexander park was beautiful and chaotic and honestly scared me a little bit. it was such a unique experience that i’d never trade for anything.
Wish they'd let Mason do a full song instead! Maude's accent is good but her voice isn't particularly strong. Emily Benjamin the alternate absolutely stole the show last year.
@@JewishJeff839Of course. Emcee did always push back against gender/sexuality conformity. In the original and in the ‘98 production you allegedly produced. (And for anyone who sees my comment and asks “What?” Don’t worry about it.)
@@JewishJeff839yes! their gender expression has nothing about their performance and frankly their performance is miles better than whatever you could do.
Hoping to see this in October, not sure if the cast will have changed. Don’t mind too much who we see but loved Madeline Brewer/Callum Scott when they performed on Graham Norton as Sally and the Emcee. Wow!
why does London slow down the scores they take from America and Broadway and slow down the beat its happening with this song, its allot faster all the way though in the origianl score. also big difference in London Disney's Beauty, and Lion King, and Aladdin, why change the tempo's to be so slow??
100% agree. She's just not magnetic enough to hold my attention for more than a few seconds, and she's reaaally leaning into the whole "sally can't sing" thing. Halfway through she checks out emotionally and doesn't utilise any of the wonderful pauses and fermatas written into the music. Wish she'd done better but that's just what happens sometimes when you cast a nepo baby.
@@nmal2007 I saw Cabaret live a few weeks ago and we immediately thought wtf is up with the casting of Sally, such weak singing and presence. We bet each other it was a nepo baby - there you go!
Her performance is being swallowed up by too much costume, makeup, and orchestration for her weak voice. But Caberet works better at well, a cabaret club so maybe she translates better at a small venue.
Sally isn’t supposed to be a good singer. In fact, she’s got better technique than actresses who played the role on BWAY in the 90s. She’s too young for the role and that’s true, but you’re all jaded because of the “nepo baby” backlash. Bandwagoners.

When their run as Emcee is over they should give Mason Alexander Park a season as Sally. They'd kill it!
I don’t know if they have the range for it. They are incredibly talented don’t get me wrong, but Sally has to belt some pretty darn high notes.

The baby dress was one of the most clever desitions made for the revival

If there was ever another movie made of Cabaret, Mason Alexander Park would be perfect. They’re the perfect mix of Alan Cumming and Joel Grey.
