The middle two Wallace and Gromit short films (The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave) are probably the two best features in the series- the Animation/Stop Motion very much improves as the series progresses!
Unless you actually think the moon is made of cheese and that you can actually build a spaceworthy rocket like that, I think not needing spacesuits on the moon should be the least of your issues with this.

You missed it because you were focused more on getting the correct English word for ice closet, but they didn't go to the moon simply because they were out of cheese. Being out of cheese gave Wallace the idea of going on a cheese holiday, and while looking at the cheese holiday catalog he realized the moon is made of cheese.
It is also VERY, VERY British. Lots of the humour flies right over many peoples heads. This is was the first outing, 1989. The second one, 1993 The Wrong Trousers was much better... and they have only gotten better since. They are a true British icon of the humour and story telling. Masterpieces.

This was the first piece of stop-motion I ever watched as a little kid along with the other shorts and the 2005 film
