  • Hello everyone,
    As promised, here is the link to the article that has the steps on how to update your ThinkPad's BIOS without Windows.

    Also! Here is a forum post you might find useful before proceeding with the update. I got lucky like the users in the post and the update did not brick my laptop.

    I just did this with both of my T420. Tomorrow I will upgrade my Linux Laptop to 16GB RAM and the remaining bar will go into the Windows laptop so it will have) 8GB. Sounds strange, but I only use Windows occasionally.
    CPU upgrade, well wait and see...

    I found that after waiting only two hours, I was able to stop the update utility and get my T420 back into action.

    I did the exactly same for my t450s but, when i choose my flash drive from boot menu, it just simply back to boot device menu... didn't show the anything...am i doing something wrong?? do i have to fromat the drive using Fat32 or ntfs like that???m

    • @Frankiscool
      @Frankiscool  3 года назад

      Yeah sounds like it's not being treated as a bootable device. Try re-formatting the drive and burning the image again.

    I flashed an unofficial bios version onto my T420, now im getting 2x5 short beeps on startup.

      T. Sounds like you might have bricked your BIOS. I found: ruclips.net/video/LxwXdIJwrX8/видео.html, in the description it has a website where you can find bin files for different laptop models, I’ve never used the site but maybe it’ll point ya to a direction.

      T. Ah, I was under the impression that you couldn’t fully boot up. How exactly did you flash your BIOS? Why not reflash again using an official version?

    My laptop don't have OS any solution to update bios before installing OS?

    • @Frankiscool
      @Frankiscool  3 года назад

      You need a way to burn it on the USB drive. I would just install an OS, then do the BIOS upgrade. At least, that’s what I did.

    What's wrong with your tutorial or video is that you didn't go into any real detail in terms of copying the script and replacing it within the parameters. It doesn't tell you a whole lot or enough to confidently be able to do anything after watching it. You should do another thorough step by step tutorial on exactly how to update the Bios.

    • @Frankiscool
      @Frankiscool  Год назад

      It is not a tutorial. Also, the article referenced was shared in the description. 🎉

    • @ManiCUREd
      @ManiCUREd Год назад

      Knowing what you already know, you should now do a comprehensive tutorial on the topic. That's my opinion.
