- Nick goes over the procedure of installing a camshaft phaser limiter.
If you are installing an aftermarket camshaft in your Gen V LT or 4.3L V6, you might find some cam specs recommend a VVT Limiter, or to completely lock it out for more aggressive cam grinds.

THANK YOU...FINALLY SOMEONE USED CORRECT TOOL FOR THE JOB!!! 👍
Thanks for taking the time out to show how VVT works. U broke it down well many other explain to fast an don't show much as if u already know. Thanks again
That got to be some smart people that invented this stuff like how they come up with this
Well explained!
Good smooth instructions
Nick you are awesome keep up the good job
I had a spring pop out like a ball point pen spring. I think the piston on top is lost because if I put the spring back in no tension. With the phase limiter installed can I just delete it? No mention of this spring in the video.
First 👍's up SD PC thanks again for taking us all along with you for the great news
do you know how much torque and horsepower of 4L80E uses out of the engine before it gets to the ground through the 3/4 ton truck rear end I didn't Dyno my engine before I put it in my suburban when they tuned the computer to run the new cam and new engine displacement of 408 cubic inches of LS motor it had 360 one foot pounds of torque on the ground I'm trying to figure out how much it had at the flywheel
So why would the spring even need to be on when I lock it out? Nothing moves anymore right? My spring came unraveled.
Great video thank you for the info
so what part number was the cam phaser limiter used in THIS VIDEO.
Does anybody know if you don't hook up the wires to the VVT what would happen I have a Gen 3 computer does not have those wires with the Gen 4 6 l in my truck and I don't have the wires connected do I need to limit it
Fantastic info.
Thanks for watching!
Hay I was just wondering can you buy from comp cams that whole assembly done for you so you don't have to mess all the mods.
After installing this kit my 2008 silverado 6.0 have p0011 code 😢😢 any help
Stock cam on my silverado code p0011 after installing this kit
You need to have it recalibrate. Was there a reason for installing the vvt limiter with a stock cam?
Can I use the same limiter from a previous dod delete if I'm using the same cam?
How hard would it be to install one of the new 4.3's into a 1996 S10 (referring to Controller & wiring for engine & transmission)
If you check out some of the 4.3L groups there are some that are building standalone harnesses off the oem pcm and harness setup. It's documented to an extent, we hope to go over that more in depth on a future video as well when time allows.
The swaps are happening though, quite a few in the rock crawler groups are running stock pcm and those engines are happy campers.
With that limiter you don't need to replace the cover but it needs the reprogramming right?.
That's correct.
any loctite needed?
Hello Nick. Is their not a company that just simply offers a simple single bolt cam gear without all that stuff?
I have been wanting to do a cam for a good while on mine but looks like I may be forced into it sooner than I wanted to.
My car has a rough idle at start up if it sits longer than 2 or 3 days. I get misfire on #1 so Im suspecting DOD or VLOM.
I pulled valve cover and Im going to start it Saturday to see if I can duplicate it.
Do you guys have link bar lifters in stock for a Gen 5 LT4? My car only has 16k miles.
Hello James, there are some companies that offer a VVT delete timing cover and cam gear, Katech is one that comes to mind. We are still working to release our own product but Covid of course put a damper on those efforts.
My VVT phaser came apart on me. It was crazy when it unwinded on me. Comp came sold me the wrong tool. They sold me the stick pin instead of the block that locks it into place
So what if you install a cam but had your valve seats cut deeper on your positions tops so you can maximize advancing and retarding
That's entirely up to you, the builder, and whoever is tuning it. It opens the window for your VVT to work, but it's one where you'd want to test PTV for both full advance and full retard.
Just a sec did he just not remove the bolt that was not to remove
So that “pivot” screw as you called it, I loosened mine all the way out(all 5 out)after installing spring tool, is this ok? I reinstalled everything no problem though, going to degree it tomorrow just wanted to make sure that “pivot” screw didn’t serve any other purpose than to help pivot door
ooops did he say inch lbs? 😧
sue the EPA the EPA wants to make it illegal to modify street cars help support the RPM act
Why blocks the cam phaser in the retard position, which removes torque and increases fuel consumption for normal driving? Retarded the cam timing gives more power at high revs but takes away some at low revs so why lock it late? ??
