Thanks. And yeah, NES games were harder compared to today's game...Today it seems all the games hold your hand throughout it...A bit of a shame really...
Cool video!! This was one of the hardest video games I've ever played!!! I can remember as a kid being so frustrated. I completed games on Genesis, Turbo Grafx, SNES, PS1, 2, & 3, Wii. But I never completed this one NES game. Tells you about the quality/challenge of today's games. Kids nowadays have it easy!! :-)
GREAT JOB MAN. didn't realize the trip down memory lane this would take me on!! also lol i never made it past area 5 so nice to see what happens in the end.
@Shadox01 Thanks. I've had this game since it first came out, so I've had a bit of practice. The part I was worrying about was the last area. I really didn't want to have to restart from the beginning (I was going for a no kill runthrough...) Almost kicked the bucket there....
if you hit down an select you can use the other weapons in your inventory instead of jumping out of the tank (sophia) to kill enemys you cant hit normally
If I recall correctly, the first frog wasn't, but I think the second one was supposed to be. I think they made the book that told the story canon, and in it I'm pretty sure they said the first frog was just another frog, but the second one was his.
Classic story of boy has frog, frog hops away from boy, frog jumps on box of radioactive material boy has sitting in his backyard, frog grows in size, frog jumps down hole, boy follows, finds tank, and suits up to go find frog.
Thanks for this playthrough. I do remember beating it a couple times as a kid and recently thought about replaying it all the way through again. Thanks very much posting this so I don't have to (I don't think I'd be able to do it as an adult!)
The game's impact led Sunsoft to develop titles with similar top-down gameplay like Gremlins 2: The New Batch and Fester's Quest, in which the latter's main designer helped design the characters for Blaster Master. Iwata incorporated many of the gameplay elements in the remake Blaster Master: Overdrive, which his goal was "for players to recall and think back upon (the original) Blaster Master, and so my goal was to find a way to evoke that through this game."
After you beat level 3 you were making your way back to level 1 to access level 4. I noticed that you took the long way through level 2 to do this. Theirs a shortcut you can use, you leave the room where the level 3 access is in level 2 and you go 1 spot above and theirs some bricks you can blast that gives you access the the bottom of room 2 of level 2, you drive right across that room into room 1 and the level 1 access is right their, no need to waste your time going the long way if you don't have to. Great video though nice to see someone do it without cheating, I still play the game on my wii quite often. Still trying to beat the whole game without dying once, easier said than done.
I suppose I took the route(s) I do because it's how I played it even way back in the day. I'm sure I have plenty of videos that I take the longer route...I guess when you've played a game so many times, you just don't think about what you're doing...In terms of this game, I suppose the route I took is the one that stuck in my head....But thanks for pointing it out. If I could change things, I would...But it's a bit late for that :P
Well, the boss fights aren't too bad if you got a fully powered up gun and you know the patterns (like with the frogs). I suppose I could have taken the time to maybe get more hover and whatnot and then proceed through the area, but I guess I didn't want to waste time...
Thx a lot, I was able to make it threw until lvl 5 then I was lost, this helped a lot. Heh got this on a rom. I use to play this when I was like 6 or 7. A lot of fun!!!
i loved this game as a kid. one thing i was always curios about. his pet frog that grows big from radiation. is that the giant frog boss from level 4? or is it a different frog?
You're supposed to use the tri-missile on the caterpillars. Great job doing it in 1 life without any visible cheats. I'm glad some people still know 1 of the main points of making a game vid is to show actual skill or at least enough competence to get through a non-blind run without continues or cheats.
I think, but don't quote me on this since it's been awhile since I read it, but I think the novel based off the game is considered canon to the series. I think the sequel (blasting again) went off of the story of the book. So you could read that and see how they explain the whole frog thing... ;)
This was a great game as corny as the story was man on an adventure to save his frog seeing that ending with him on the hood of his ride with his frog makes me want to cry with happiness lol.
@SaikyoMog cool thanks. i never knew they made a book about it. i never beat the game. the furthest i ever got was the crab boss at level 5 that sht a ton of bubbles. lol awesome game though. loved it
This was one of the many, many, many NES games I owned back in the day, so needless to say, I've had practice. As I tell everyone though, what you don't see are the many attempts before I'm able to go through the game without getting killed. I think I would have punched a hole in my laptop if I died near the end...Was a close call... :P
Made it all the way to the living stage and had to catch the bus. Placed the game on pause. Came back from school and found out my mother shut the game off. I was crushed. Never played it again. Watching you play confirmed I was on the last stage 👍
Isn't it interesting that you can remember after what I presume is a long period of time. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Jeremy would have been glad to hear that another fan of the older games had watched. Jeremy’s dad
This was very entertaining to watch. Great job hanging on there at the end. Even when I played the original NES game, I felt that the story was one of the stupidest in gaming history. All they had to do was change the frog to a girl and they were set. Hell, even a dog would have made more sense. No one cares that much about a frog. Also, you are extremely talented. I don't care how many times it took for you to get this good. Great job! Thanks for giving me lunch-break-material :)

OK LET'S GET THIS STRAIGHT. A PET FROG ESCAPES FROM A JAR AND JUMPS ON A RANDOM RADIOACTIVE BOX IN A FIELD. THEN JUMPS DOWN A WHOLE AS YOU FOLLOW IT TO INNER EARTH WHERE THERE'S A KICK A$$ TANK JUST WAITING. #GotIt
i'm curious how the book explains radioactive material just meters from his house... and risking his life looking for a frog (which he could easily replace or just buy a nintendo). ok, i will stop trying to make sense out of the intro to an awesome game. (this was my childhood. and metroid.)
Dude, I'd have thought it was worth posting the vid if you just beat it without hitting continue. The popular NES games are next-to impossible to beat in 1 life. Only 1 I've ever done that with is Mega Man 2 and that took major effort and time. Not very realistic, were they? I don't see many stories in formats other than video games where the hero only won because he had a couple more lives.

so when the hell do we run into that giant frog again? or is that it?
No use of the bomb trick on levels 2, 4, 6, and 7, mad respect for that.

I always failed to make it past the pit of spikes 1:19:50 It’s not as easy as it looks. It required precise timing after a lot of gameplay.
