This was such a great game , Zimbabwe at that time had a good test squad , I remember they really impressed everyone at the 99 WC.The windies were coming from a 2-0 defeat to New Zealand and Lara opted out of this series .I remember the next test was when Walsh broke the World Record at that time in his home town , I was hoping that this was the turn around ,the beat Pakistan in a nail biter the third test but it wasn't, despite the Windies having won the 1st test easily at Birmingham against England, they ended up losing 3 out of the 4 tests against England and a white wash in Down Under really hurt their chances of any growth. At this time cricket was really good , series were tight and every test series meant something.
Zimbabwe was still a minnow of cricket. During their hay days, they won only 4 test matches. Won three recognized ODI series. I am talking about from 1992 to 2003. The only consolation I will give them is winning their first test match early in their test history. Their win ratio in ODI cricket in that period was around 20% to 25% against other test-playing nations.
One thing I miss is the sound of the conch shell being blown at the fall of a wicker or a windies boundary by the man they called 'blue food'... It was synonymous with cricket at the Queens Park Oval. RIP ' blue food'... We miss you my brother..
This was the first ever test match between West Indies vs Zimbabwe. Remembering watching it live, wanted westendies to win but was very nervous . Yet had hopes on Walsh and Ambrose one of greatest test bowling pair to ever played test cricket. Felt sad for Niel Johnson and Andy Flower loved them too.
All Time West Indies XI : 1) Chris Gayle 2) Gordon Greenidge 3) Viv Richards 4) Brian Lara 5) Clive Lloyd* 6) Gary Sobers 7) Jeff Dujon+ 8) Malcom Marshall 9) Michael Holding 10) Joel Garner 11) Curtly Ambrose 💫 This Team can beat any All Time XI
@@bobmoonah4421 Haynes record outside West Indies is not good and Gayle also is a part time spinner i need in the team. Holding was the fastest bowler of his time had better avg and strike rate compared to Walsh.
Freakish the amount of legends who featured in this broadcast who are no longer with us: Tony cozier died a few years ago, Heath Streak last year and Mike Proctor, who was on commentary died last month.
Yes this was Gayle's and Hinds first test ,this was an awesome test , Flower had a century in the 1st Innings , Heath Streak got a five wicket haul , this was also the first time Zimbabwe player a test against the West Indies.
Thanks for this. You guys must post more of these vintage cricket to show the rich history of West Indies cricket. NUFF RESPECT.

Gripper edged that LBW dismissal, can see it on the replay. Great highlights.
