    I enjoy watching how owners create a different "world" behind a generic HDB door. Even the small galley kitchen resembles the tight space in kitchens in small Japanese restaurants. Not a big housing unit, but a joy to watch how each space unfolds.

    日本人から見ると色々と違和感を感じます。外国の方が想像する日本なのかな?

    • @user-wr2qu8mx3r
      @user-wr2qu8mx3r 3 месяца назад +5

      私もちょっとだけ感じました。素敵な家で日本への愛情いっぱい感じるけど、和室は必ず畳だし、違棚は板を左右段違いに取り付けた棚の事だし、敷台ではなく上がり框のはずだし、綺麗好きの日本人だったらテーブルと床を一緒にする事は絶対ないかな、と思いました。
      とてもよく勉強されてるのはすごいことだと思います。でもこんなに日本を好きになってくれて嬉しいです。
      I felt a bit odd as a native Japanese, too. It is a beautiful place with so much love toward Japanese culture. But, we call a room Washitsu only with tatami mat floor, Chigai-dana 違棚 is two shelves installed right and left in different levels, shiki-dai 敷台 is the step to get up on Agari-kamachi 上がり框(this is the actual floor), plus clean Japanese people would never feel right to double purpose the floor and dining table.
      Still, it’s amazing how much knowledge they have , and make me so happy that they love our culture so much with respect. It makes me proud of it even though we are loosing some of the traditional architect in common Japanese homes.

    some very interesting design choices. And I love the overall aesthetic.
    Do HBDs - or this one in particular - come with external storage space? Like in a basement floor of the building? There seems to be quite little storage space in the flat itself. Unless perhaps the living room room floor contains storage drawers?
    I did notice the single central drawer that contains the projector. So, I guess it is possible that there are more drawers to the side of that for storage....

    • @eugenesng7329

    This not bad, not bad. Looks like the ID and owner have done some homework on most Japanese aesthetics rather than just placing them haphazardly just to include some Japanese elements for a design or using them incorrectly. Most are quite correctly applied and implemented.
    The only things I've spotted that were wrong was the transition from the Genkan to the Shikidai of the inner house. The owner should avoid stepping directly on the floor or tiles of the genkan itself (known as the Tataki) either in socks or on barefoot. He should instead step into the inner quarters of the house directly upon leaving his footwear without touching the genkan's floor. That is the reason why there is a clear demarcation between the outside (dirty) and the inside (clean) that should not be mixed by human touch. This is Japanese etiquette that is often oversighted.
    The Tokonoma should also be the most important aspect of the room in which the Tokowaki and its chigai-dana (shelves) and other displays supplement its importance. In this particular case, this seems to be reversed. The Tokowaki and decorative shelves were given precedence in that dominant position of the room and the Tokonoma was relegated to only a small unseemingly section at the edge. This a bit weird.
    Lastly, the Kami-dana should have its own separate individual location rather than being found in the Tokonoma/Tokowaki. We should always separate the sacred realm of the Gods from the mortals, onto their own higher plane. It would have been more appropriate if it was installed above the Tokonoma/Tokowaki rather than in it with our mortal's possession for this case. If it is to be in the Tokonoma, the Tokonoma should solely be reserved for the Kami and offerings with nothing else to signify its higher status, separated and above our mortal status and earthly possessions.
    I guess some aspects were installed more for aesthetic purposes than true meanings. I've enjoyed it nonetheless.
    WIth love, A local Japanophile whose house is also renovated based on traditional Japanese aspects.

    The term "master bedroom" has become controversial due to its associations with historical power imbalances and racial hierarchies. Critics argue that "master" evokes the legacy of slavery and the unequal power dynamics between enslavers and enslaved people. The term has also been critiqued for perpetuating gendered hierarchies, suggesting a dominant-subordinate relationship in a domestic context.
    In response, many in the real estate and interior design industries have adopted alternatives such as "primary bedroom" or "main bedroom," aiming to use more neutral and inclusive language. These changes reflect broader societal shifts towards sensitivity and respect in terminology.
