Working in tourism in Vienna, Austria, I once had a conversation with a middle-aged woman from the US asking me which language 'you speak here in Australia'. My answer that English is most commonly spoken there but here in Vienna we speak some sort of German left her thorougly confused - though that one woman probably doesn't represent a whole country when it comes to knowledge about where you're headed to on vacation. I guess many people in tourism can tell similar stories, regardless of country.
my dad works for a delivery company and we are in australia so he always gets sent packages that are supposed to go to austria. for example he got 100 packages delivered to here the other day and not one of them was for australia. all of them were supposed to be sent to austria

I always wonder why the names of Australia 🇦🇺 and Austria 🇦🇹 sound very similar but they're just totally different ye know. I know Australia is in Oceania while Austria is in the centre of Europe and it shares the borders with Germany 🇩🇪, Switzerland 🇨🇭, Italy 🇮🇹, Liechtenstein 🇱🇮, Slovenia 🇸🇮, Hungary 🇭🇺, Slovakia 🇸🇰 and Czechia known as Czech Republic 🇨🇿. I also know the language of Australia is English and the language of Austria is German. You may find kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, sharks and platypuses in Australia 🇦🇺 but not in Austria 🇦🇹. There may be some cattle, ibex and deer in Austria 🇦🇹. Anyway good morning from Ireland 🇮🇪
My gf is half Irish half Austrian. I know a few things about Ireland, for example that Cork is somewhere in the Southwest (I think), the British treated the Irish very well (cough cough) and you got a lot of potatoes, sheep and beer. Good evening from Austria 🇦🇹
While skiing in the Austrian Alps, I met a bartender who was an Austrian-Austrailian. Her mother was an Austrian expat living down under thus she had citizenship by descent and was able to live and work in Austria without the need for any Visa.

About four years ago, my English teacher gave our class a task to write five questions about Austria. One of my friends accidentally wrote the questions about Australia, and the teacher got mad on him and said that she can't understand how can anybody confuse Austria with Australia. Now it turns out it can be, and that my friend was not the only one. Thanks for the video!
(0:55) Or use the country codes: AT (Austria), AU (Australia) The issue with the names Austria/Australia is that the names have so many letters in common, but AT/AU are half different from each other, and the difference is much greater. Using country codes on letters is allowed. You also don't have to write it in English, as you only have to write it in a valid language from where you're sending from. For example, sending from Canada, you can write Autriche/Australie which are more different from each other.
It's said that Germans live to work, Italians work to live and Austrians have a balance between the two. In general there is some minor animosity between Germans and Austrians but that's mostly joking about and culturally related. There is the idea of the very strict, no fun allowed, precise German and the more laid back, lenient Austrian. Bavarian culture (South German) and Austrian culture are quite similar though, in regards to food and language, the geography is mountainous and forested, architecture has a distinct "alpine" feel to it and there is the "lederhosen" culture (google it and look at some images, you'll get what i mean). North Germany is quite different though even to Bavaria itself, generally things get alot flatter and more farmlandy north of Munich, the people and architecture become more samey and uninteresting. Frankly, and speaking from firsthand experience, North Germany, is just kinda drab and uninteresting. Apart from some really worthwhile cultural sites and cities like Berlin there is just not alot happening there. The Suburbs and farmland all look the same, the geography is flat and the people are diligent and proper workers but not much fun at parties.

Me: "Hi I'm from Austria"
Person: "Oh you mean the wonderful Country with the cute Koalas and the big Kangaroos. The Land with the big opera of Sydney, where everybody speaks this funny English accent?"
Me: "Ahm no, Austria"
Person: "Oh you mean the country which is in the middle of Europe, the one which lost the first world War and brought up Hitler?"
Me: "Well ahm no... The one with the Kangeroos"
Me: no the country with the most beautiful landscape on Earth and the place where karens don't exist
Super Kanal, sehr lustig und informativ zugleich :)
I will never understand how people switch these countries up, its not that hard ffs!
I never mixed Australia and Austria. Hmmm. Maybe it’s because I’m in Australia...
People think we ride on kangaroos..... *honestly*
Also, if u try vegemite- *dont eat a whole spoonful....* it’s a spread- not a snack... 😒
Just a joke about the kangaroo riding tho
inihccecb Is it though? Americans aren’t exactly the brightest people.
@@diabolus.1604 They're mostly racist.
@@diabolus.1604 No, not a single American thinks they ride kangaroos, they arent even the right shape.
@@nesy5041 No, stop listening to the news here. Also stay out of the south.

my dad works for a delivery company and we are in australia so he always gets sent packages that are supposed to go to austria. for example he got 100 packages delivered to here the other day and not one of them was for australia. all of them were supposed to be sent to austria
I feel like someone is going to get in trouble over that screw-up.
Yeah happens every now and then at my work but it's usually someone's fault at the sending end, picking the wrong country code for the paperwork. 100 is a bloody lot, sounds like someone mislabelled a whole can lol
Anyway good morning from Ireland 🇮🇪
you can also find most of those animals in austria too. It´s called a ZOO
@@arkiza Yeah I knew that. I'm sure most of those animals might be found in some Austrian zoos.
I live in the Austrian Alps but I saw a lot more kangaroos than ibexes in my life 🦘🐐
@@123jakob1234 Really?
My gf is half Irish half Austrian.
I know a few things about Ireland, for example that Cork is somewhere in the Southwest (I think), the British treated the Irish very well (cough cough) and you got a lot of potatoes, sheep and beer.
Good evening from Austria 🇦🇹
Y would RUclips recommend this 2 years later when I’m Australian?
While skiing in the Austrian Alps, I met a bartender who was an Austrian-Austrailian. Her mother was an Austrian expat living down under thus she had citizenship by descent and was able to live and work in Austria without the need for any Visa.
You should do one on Slovakia and Slovenia.
If I got a cent every time somebody confused these two...

(0:55) Or use the country codes: AT (Austria), AU (Australia)
The issue with the names Austria/Australia is that the names have so many letters in common, but AT/AU are half different from each other, and the difference is much greater. Using country codes on letters is allowed.
You also don't have to write it in English, as you only have to write it in a valid language from where you're sending from. For example, sending from Canada, you can write Autriche/Australie which are more different from each other.
Just imagine if Antarctica was called Australia instead.
Guys you won't believe what i've found in Austr *Ali-A*

To any Austrians, how similar is Austrian culture to South German vs North German culture?
-An Australian
Friendly Bandit imma give u like just coz of how long that would’ve taken to type.
Friendly Bandit Did you just write a novel?!
