I've seen a couple interviews by James Brown and Little Richard who said they didn't care about Elvis ripping off their music. because Elvis was popular and in turn made them popular as well. They credited Elvis for making their careers and other black musicians careers.
Katherine is very perceptive for such a young person. I enjoy her reactions, and that of her mom. It shows me that you are able to clearly see both sides of an issue and understand the foibles that all people share.
Elvis actually gave credit to the black community while he was alive. He also stood his ground for his friends and co workers of color when on tour, for example. It's part of why he was so controversial when he became famous.
Elvis was not racist, Little Richard has said he was glad Elvis brought the music to the masses he kept it alive. B.B. King has said that Stevie Ray, Joe Bonamasa and other white guitarists keep blues alive. In my own personal observation most black folks gave up blues and jazz and bought into hip hop. So if white folks didn’t adopt it … it’d be gone by now and almost is. I don’t see any YOUNg black blues musicians in the main stream , as far as jazz Esperanza Spalding is the only one I can think of … And I must reiterate that I’m not trying to start crap … I’m just a fan of the music and want it preserved. Honestly I have always given Ike Turner and Chuck Berry credit for rock and roll … Elvis is an after thought to me.
It’s a great bit, but that part was kinda lazy to make the premise work. Elvis was surrounded and handled by some bigots for sure, but he was always reverential towards the black artists who inspired him who never got the same credit or level of fame. The black artists he worked with and hired to perform with tell that he was very generous an respectful. The Netflix edit cut off the end of that bit. It basically posits that if such rampant discrimination of black people didn’t exist in America and they had the same access to education and opportunity, they may have invented flight instead of the white Wright brothers.
The last joke about flying is about the fact that two white brothers built the first airplane and if they hadn't done that his wife couldn't fly to NY from LA in under 6 hours. The two brothers were Orville and Wibur Wright and they built the first airplane with a motor in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, NC.

In general, women do the huffing, scoffing, and Eye roles... if men are upset by something they say, if it's on regular TV they may wait for a commercial, but if it's streaming we will pause it right there, and explain how what someone said or did is wrong. I once stopped an episode of The Walking Dead, the one where they found the prison and explained what security precautions they needed to to the fortify the outside fence to my ex-wife. Calmly explaining to her that a super horde of zombies, or one idiot with a tank or big truck could just roll right through... she informed me that I was taking it too seriously and it was just a television show. Many years ago I was in a supermarket & walked up to the checkout & my cousin was in front of me & her 3 boys were running a muck so much so she didn’t even see me walk up. Somebody somewhere started all this with the assertion that culture is a group thing, the reality couldn't be further from the truth. The word culture shares its roots with the verb 'to cultivate'. Culture is not a group thing, it's something individuals do for themselves, we see something, we try it, if we like it, it becomes part our individual culture, it's never a group decision. The observation that a certain group of people seem to share cultural preferences leads to the racist notion that those cultural preferences can only belong to that group of people. We should just stop finding excuses to divide people, it's ugly.
Culture is something that is shared by and identifies a group, it is by definition tied to the group. Individuals may come up with things that are added in or absorbed but culture is a shared identity. If a culture lasts centuries it won't be those same individuals maintaining that culture, the human lifespan doesn't allow for that. Do you associate Kabuki theater with the guy who first came up with it, or do you associate it with Japan? Do you associate Hollywood with the guy who came up with it or do you associate it with America? That said throwing a tantrum because someone who is perceived outside the group decides they want to take part is absurd.
Your definition of culture is the dangerous 'group-think' definition, and doesn't explain how a group decides what is and what is not part of their culture. Whilst it is the common understanding of what a culture is, it describes something that doesn't exist (unless one wishes to confuse tradition with culture). If something is described with a self-referential definition like that, then it has not been adequately described. I listened to an hour-long radio program about culture, and they debated at length the question 'what exactly is culture', their panel of qualified participants couldn't satisfactorily agree a description, or even describe it very well, they were more content with leaving it as something intangible, but that's academics for you. There is no such thing as a thing that identifies a given group, or a thing that is shared by a group, unless it is a self-referential, circular definition, or a very loose all-encompassing one. It would be like saying the Staffordshire Oatcake is a delicacy that is enjoyed by people from Staffordshire. It is, but not everybody that enjoys them is from Staffordshire, and not everybody that is from Staffordshire enjoys their oatcakes. Also, I've never heard of the Kabuki theatre, some might label me 'uncultured', so what does that mean, then?
True. Black people at a time respected and loved Elvis. But today he's viewed as a racist culture vulture because of misguided racism by blacks towards whites. So sad.
love you ladies ;) there was a famous man from the black community in the "Elvis in the Black Community" documentary who stated "once something is created and put out, anyone should be able to add to it" it was a sweet way of saying we can all work together and make great things out of something that already has a foundation. If you get board it is a short film that would be fun to watch, you may have and i missed it though. take care ladies ❤❤

It’s so true…. My girlfriend is black and I’m white….we’ve been together quite a while so we are comfortable with discussing anything. But it is true that our perspectives are different based on the environments we grew up in…. The best part is that we both learn new ways to see things and develop a greater appreciation for all cultures.
Elvis did NOT marry a minor. She was 22 and he was 32 when they got married. She met him at 14 while he was in the military in Germany. It was Jerry Lee Lewis who married his 13 year old cousin. R. Kelly married a 15 year old Aaliyah. Burr's jokes are normally funny but this is insulting to Elvis. Truth is, Elvis did more for black music than anyone did because it opened the doors for black music to go mainstream during racial segregation times, and gets no credit. Elvis grew up in poverty. The best comedy comes from tragedy. It’s a way to heal. And Elvis was in the right place at the right time to capitalize. But rock and roll has always been based in the blues. When you think about it, it’s mixing the cultures, and that’s never a bad thing in order to better understand cultures we may never see.
- - --- - - Elvis and Rock & Roll are the culmination of genres. Elvis' own creation, "Rockabilly" is a blending of Country with Blues. From the very beginning 1953-55 in his earliest recordings, he sang pop ballads (like his idol & biggest influence Dean Martin), Country Music (his idols Hank Snow, Hank Williams) and even Bluegrass (Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, etc). Everyone is focusing on just the R&B he covered, which was a fraction of his music recordings. Covering a song means just that, recording a song AFTER the original artist already had their own hit with it. There is no theft. What is really being said is that Elvis should not be allowed to record a blues song. ABSURD! As BBKing said, once a song is out there, anyone can record it. Rufus Thomas also said, Elvis injected something into R&B that wasn't there before, and was unique. I believe the cultural appropriation crowd is confusing the issue by targeting elvis, rather it is the segregated society they are really upset with. It's not elvis' fault for being born into that era. For decades, Music Historians & Sociologists have all credited elvis (including many R&B contemporaries of Elvis... James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, Al Green, etc) with having de-segregated music. Popular music and Rock evolved from many influences.......... ruclips.net/video/9zJ3qy-B13U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/z_Y3mnj-8lA/видео.html ruclips.net/video/KDQJMtg6Hh0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/u00Y11x16V0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/PYlG7qb3iCs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/IwFpV80ASjw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ewnfWoSQz3o/видео.html ruclips.net/video/E5F-O_19lSI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/NS2k43NJycE/видео.html
I think the fact that music has brought so many cultures and races together is a beautiful thing and doesn't get the credit it deserves on the impact it has had on society. Elvis is a big part of that and I'd say the first to take it to mainstream
Elvis did not appropriate a culture. As a non-American I see only an American culture which is a mixture of Irish, German, Dutch, Spanish, English and African influences. One of Huddy Ledbetter’s better known songs was a syncopated uptempo version of an Irish lament.
Why he's so funny is because there is an element of truth to everything he say. Fair enough he blows it out of proportion but it is still true to some extent and he doesn't apologise for his observations.
The last bit is because the Wright Brothers were white. In the full video, his wife has a good counter argument about that, and Bill has another counter too. LOL. One of my favorite Bill Burr's special.
The Joke doesn't actually end there. His wife makes him explain why what he said was fucked up, which he did elegantly. Then we get another However which was a pretty funny part " James Brown line dancing " Lol

You can hear her more on his podcast. And he talk a lot about Nia in some skits like the pumpkin in Halloween. It's hilarious about her overreacting when she saw a pumpkin in the supermarket.
I hate to be That Guy but rock/pop music in its early days was actually quite diverse. People today use words like ""cultural appropriation" but in the 50s and 60s white kids and black kids crossed over regularly in who they listened to and what they liked, and there was no concept of one "stealing" from the other. In an era of Jim Crow and segregation and acceptable racism it was one of the only bright spots as it relates to race relations. Yes there were whites who took sounds from blacks, but the reverse was true too. That's how a mixed culture works. Talk to people who were kids and teens in those days they will tell you. Doesn't matter what race they are they will tell you the same. All this "appropriation" and "you stole" stuff comes from the mouths of people born way after the fact, irrespective of the race of the person saying it, of which both white folk and black folk are equally guilty.

Actually, Elvis was a tremendous friend to the black community, and promoted black performers when others were trying to stomp them out.
-ish...
True. Black people at a time respected and loved Elvis. But today he's viewed as a racist culture vulture because of misguided racism by blacks towards whites. So sad.
Bill is the man. My favorite comedian ever
Very good point you made about Bill making race conversations comfortable.
The guy was born for this day and age.
Great vid ladies
He said she was huffing and puffing because she was catching all the subtle racism lol
2 white men invented the airplane
Yup, all of mankind lives in a world of interdependency. We all learn from each other.
Oh there was a bit more to that where he gives an explanation to his last comment
Girl he gave the Cliff Notes about the "King"
love you ladies ;) there was a famous man from the black community in the "Elvis in the Black Community" documentary who stated "once something is created and put out, anyone should be able to add to it" it was a sweet way of saying we can all work together and make great things out of something that already has a foundation. If you get board it is a short film that would be fun to watch, you may have and i missed it though. take care ladies ❤❤
If you guys need more material go to Bill Engvall’s RUclips channel. He has God knows how many stories. They include one he had to get a knee replacement, kidney stones, the marijuana story, etc. He is hilarious! I actually got to see him perform live on a few occasions
The next following minute or so really brings it home. Great reaction tho
His wife is super funny, lot video about Bill and Nina podcasts, u guys should reaction

How Ever !!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀
Your mother is beautiful Queen 😍
Elvis did NOT marry a minor. She was 22 and he was 32 when they got married. She met him at 14 while he was in the military in Germany. It was Jerry Lee Lewis who married his 13 year old cousin. R. Kelly married a 15 year old Aaliyah. Burr's jokes are normally funny but this is insulting to Elvis. Truth is, Elvis did more for black music than anyone did because it opened the doors for black music to go mainstream during racial segregation times, and gets no credit. Elvis grew up in poverty. Watch Elvis And The Black Community-The Echo Will Never Die.
Bill is wayyyyy overlooked as a very intelligent human being mannn. Bill pridefully with humor admits he does no research or reading... If he did... this Elvis JOKE would take 2 hours every Sunday of every year to tell. Ever watch SCARY MOVIE and think aloud... "MAN!! THIS IS THE WORST SEQUEL TO SCREAM EVER!!"?
SSSSPOOOF!! Some might look at Elvis's mistakes as DUMBASSMUTHAFUCKA, while others recognize the trials and tribulations of a trailblazer....BUT...when you start wearin a fuckin cape!??... People gunna talk mannn.
HOWEVER!!
You are 100% CORRECT!!
Elvis in a way...was The "Chip" to the Black Man's Blues&Rock n Roll. (Covered by Chappelle as well as Chris Rock's "How to not get Your Ass Kicked by the Police." ruclips.net/video/uj0mtxXEGE8/видео.html
If you blastin FuckDaPolice while being pulled over BY DA POLICE is just IGNANT!
HOWEVER!...
If you blastin WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT by TWISTED SISTER while being pulled over by DA POLICE....You might just get off with a warning.
So Bill was simply trying to thread that needle like the board game OPERATION, trying to keep that female index finger from jabbing at his forehead.
If you want solid confirmation of Burr's uncanny intellect.... I challenge everyone to reWatch his NO REASON TO HIT A WOMAN!! He pulls everyone in with his reckless opinion on NO REASON to hit a woman and people are stunned and jumpin ship off the TITANIC thinkin he is an ignorant joke!!
Then...
Once he has everyone on the verge of pissin&moanin...
He explains with such heart, mind, logic, truth and intellect...
"When you say there's No Reason, that kills any sort of examination of how two people ended up at that place. When you say there's No Reason, you cut out the build-up and you're just left with the act....How you gonna solve it, if you don't figure it out?" You hear the audience go from "HAHHHH this guy's ignorant!" to the silence of gears turning in heads...then watch the faces of EVERY REACTOR melt from smiles to deep, HOLYSHIT!! THIS GUY IS ACTUALLY VERY SMART!!
Guys love him for standin up for their side, while EVERY FEMALE!!... falls a little in love with his honest, fair reality.
JUST WATCH THEM ALL!! 100% of REACTIONS respond the EXACT SAME WAY!! Makes you so proud of the Philly Assassin... overcoming his past destruction and potholes to share his wisdom cloaked in Angry Rant Humor.
Elvis didn't marry a minor he just had a minor as a girlfriend
@@frikster5542 She wasn't his girlfriend then. He said himself "there was a little girl I was seeing over there but it was no big romance". He dated other women too while in Germany.
@@mikem957 For Elvis to even make a statemnent like...'There was a little girl i was seeing over there but it was no big romance, talking about a 14 yr old girl.....WOW
@@frikster5542 You have to understand the times back then. Age of consent was 14 in Germany. It was different than now. As long as he didn't have sex with her against her will then there was no crime committed. Elvis wasn't a fool and he wasn't like Jeffrey Epstein or other Hollywood celebrities.
Women have perfected saying something without saying something
My dad always told me. Meet the girls mom. He wasn't wrong. Bill bur kills it
Love how you keep an open mind. I’m a white male and always dated black women. Now I’m in a true relationship with my queen. I have to keep an open mind because we tent to ignorant about real black life. Stay the course you ladies are doing great
This is the problem right here. The truth is we only care about people we know, end of story. The thing is I'm a white dude dating a Mexican chick, am I marching for Mexicans, hell no, its called just not being an idiot, it's me and her, everyone else can kick rocks, lol.
What the airplane joke was about was the Wright Brothers who are white created the first airplane. The point being it’s stupid bringing they up while the skateboard can be considered funny.
The best comedy comes from tragedy. It’s a way to heal. And Elvis was in the right place at the right time to capitalize. But rock and roll has always been based in the blues. When you think about it, it’s mixing the cultures, and that’s never a bad thing in order to better understand cultures we may never see.
Comedy = Tragedy + Time, Per a comedian whose name escapes me.
The Wright brothers invented flight. They were white. That was the meaning behind Nia tapping out with "that was f'd up".
Feed Love! Starve hate. 🤘
Yeah. We're all human beings.
paper tiger...robots bill burr 2021 thank you
In the second one, I think he’s saying that white Americans pioneered flight.

Couldn't have said it better.
Hope you 2 get to see the whole bit(s). Paper Tiger is pretty good. Aloha....
I missed the last one but thank you comment section.
Yall didmt get the last joke because the video is cut off in the middle of the joke
Why he's so funny is because there is an element of truth to everything he say. Fair enough he blows it out of proportion but it is still true to some extent and he doesn't apologise for his observations.
Hay! Lilke no.1 first time ever!
Old fat conservative white guy, loves your channel. I have watched two videos and liked them... one more and I think I'm going to subscribe! Keep up the good work.
You should react to elvis and the black community its a bit of an eye opener on what elvis had to go through and how the rumours dont match up with the people who knew him.
Do you have other mediums or sites you publish on?
Elvis loved the black community
loving the community doesnt absolve you of appropriating without giving credit where it is due.
@@mcanibsa3036 "appropriating" you mean he got inspiration from it, added something else and made it better?
@@ReivasMC regardless of what he did with he should've given credit

@@ReivasMC I don't think you've ever seen me on mainstream media being called the King of Mashed Potatoes by the entire planet? Until you see that don't excuse Elvis. When you get called king of anything and you used other people's stuff for it, give the credit. That's the honorable thing to do.
