I like this project more than the E30 because this Audi is so unusual and alien to me. The engineers design choice just boggles my mind!

The design of this car is wild. I like it even though it is driving me insane 😂

You resisted the urge to say, "That steering rack is Audi 5000." I'm proud of you

Loving this project! Just picked up a ‘90 200 Quattro Avant this year, and the support for these chassis is sad. Looking forward to your solution for the CV axles, I can’t seem to find a place in the US that sells replacement. Custom replacements seem to be the only option in the US. I’m glad you are providing this resource for the community!

Not bad. Cv axles are rebuildable, SKF sells kits including inner or outer cv joints and boot, not just the boot. The most difficult rebuild would be the steering rack, again kits exist but it has some teflon o rings inside which are difficult to put back, need special tools, everything else is standard work. Looking forward to the next video

Wow! I have a feeling this project will be immensely complicated. At least the bodywork seems to be in good shape this time, when compared with the e30. Good luck with that steering rack !!

I can't wait to see all the refreshed suspension and rebuilt rack built back up and on the car. It will no doubt be transformative. This Audi really deserves saving. Well done in anticipation!

Another great video. Thanks for documenting this problematic issue on the Typ 44/C3 Audi. I'm excited to see the next one on fixing the subcomponents. Btw, it would be great if you could list places you got your parts from in the next video. I suspect they are a bit difficult to find.

Always looking forward to your videos. Little reference info; Audi 5000 is similar to the Audi GT Coupe/VW Quantum from the '80s this may help you in your research if needed that's what I had to do during my time on older Audis...
On to the next item. What would be the possibility of you doing a stand-alone video on the rack and pinion rebuild? "Never done one"

Thanks for the info, I'll have to include those models in my part searches. I plan on doing stand alone videos for the steering rack and struts.

The 1st time I did a rack in an '87 5000 CS TQ, I used an online writeup, which helped a ton. Back before the web, though. Wish I could remember where I found it... probably on the quattro list or usenet group. That is archived in google groups, from what I recall. Of course, too late for you to use that now!

You may know this, but the outer CV joint can be replaced fairly easily, so no need for a whole new axle.

How much would you sell that nice 1987 5000 CS Quattro Turbo for, seriously, considering all the work you've put into it? I've owned three of them (85, 87, 89). Can't find ANY anywhere for sale! Really enjoy watching all the hard work you're putting into it!

Thanks for the comment. I'm afraid the Audi was sold a few months ago. I had a difficult time finding a buyer. I got $9500 for it.
