now that's a great demo and comparison, BUT I wish you'd use the settings video only in full screen. I had to zoom in on the top right corner the whole time lol.

Thank you so much ! Both great units ! Would love to hear a comparaison between Zahl and some tube/pultec eq with similar settings

What do you think in terms of sound quality for mastering is the Zähl in the same league with Maselec ma2 or the massive passive?

Heya! I really miss my Maselec and this was in a way my hope for a replacement... Honestly it sounds weird but the best thing about the MEA2 was it's hands on usability, the stepped pots and feel of it was SO quick and intuitive, it was just special. Recallability was also better and you found your hands making similar moves sometimes which was interesting to notice - I however didn't use it for boosting, apart from air occasionally which it did beautifully... it was very classy sounding. (That being said, I now use the Maag EQ4 which is lush up top) The Zahl is excellent sound wise, but I probably wouldn't use it to boost the top end (as you can hear it is very solid/pleasant, but unforgivingly honest!) Maselec Sound wise I haven't A/Bd but to be honest I don't think there's much in it. The Maselec is a scalpel, an incredible tool which does it's job astoundingly. The Zahl will get you to a similar place sonically, but in a less intuitive way. As for the MP... different beast to both, it's a flavour and mojo box for boosting, whereas I use the Zahl and Maselec for subtractive stuff. I'll also say that due to the stepped pots in part, it was difficult to ever overcook any moves with the MEA-2, also the fine 9Q (which I mainly left bands on) made it marginally tighter than EQ1's 6Q.
God writing this I realise how deeply I miss the MEA-2... it's just an example of perfect design from Leif. Not to knock the 500 series sonically, it's honestly more about the hands on experience of using them, nothing beats the MEA2's chonky "clicks"! Hope this helps!

No one EVER mentions this, but those Wes Audio modules don’t work in most standard 500 series chassis because of how they made their connectors.

BS... Wes Audio have a list of non compatible racks and it's totally the other way around. It's only a couple of old models of specific brands (RND, BAE) and some Midas rack, but and for Midas the issue is only in the slots that have a big ass screw, they even have an officiall tutorial in their site explaining how to modify those racks.

@@necbot What you mean BS?! I bought a module from Wes back in 2019 along with a RND R6 and i was PISSED that it didn’t fit. Sent that shit back along with the R6. I called Wes directly and asked them why their connector didn’t fit in the RND and the associate confirmed that their modules were made specific for their own Wes 500 chassis and you had to make special order for Wes 500 series modules to fit in standard lunchboxes or cut a portion of the connector in the back of the module to make it fit in the R6. Why the fuck would anyone need to lie about that?

@@therealliveguy Oh I didn't specifiy, my bad. This is what I called BS: "No one EVER mentions this...those Wes Audio modules don’t work in most standard 500 series"
To bad you had poblems back then, but now those issues are known and if you do due diligence while buying gear you should find this info right away, it's really easy to find. It''s even addressed in the "user manual" for NG500 products. They're not trying to hide this.
I now realize that you're stuck in 2015 with this issue, I totally get it. To me, it sounded to me like you dind't research before buying gear, but that early in the production for this products (2015) I can see why you said what you said.
