      The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel Bravo! I've been waiting months for the eigentakt to be reviewed so thank you! I'm brand new to the audiophile world. I'm a musician on a mission to power 2.1 passive monitors with a purifi amp (perhaps without any op amps). So all I'm concerned about is truly accurate sound and superb control over the dynamics. I've read about VTV custom purifi amps, and the new exceptional purifi stereo amp: March Audio P452. Would these compare to eigentakt? And lastly, the only other contender that is tempting me, is the orchard audio Bosc monoblocks with its gallium nitride tech instead of mosfet. Any thoughts on any of these amps would be much appreciated.

    To me, Hans puts more time and effort than any other audio reviewer that I subscribe too. I can't say that I 100% understand every bit of info that he provides. But I like that he does and it encourages me to learn more about what he's described. My budget is more towards the NAD C399 and, on paper, it looks near the equal to the specs of the M33. And I am more than happy to pay less because of the screen and construction quality when comparing the two systems. I am going to AudioFest Toronto 2022 this Friday to have a listen comparison. Thanks again Hans for a wonderful channel. Cheers.

    I have owned an M10 for some weeks now. One thing took me by surprise and is how good Dirac is. It's a game changer. And I think it's a bit under valued by the community. Another awesome feature (also on the M33) is the dual subwoofer output. With Dirac you can control each individual subwoofer separately and room correct them according to the location and subwoofer features. Again, a game changer feature.

    Most of my old stereo equipment (1972 vintage) has died. I haven’t used it for years. I am getting back into stereo and have been considering the NAD M33 vs. McIntosh 5300. The McIntosh costs more and is less versatile but I want to hear them both to compare them. Your review inclines me toward the NAD. I haven’t found a good review of the McIntosh.

    I am super excited about the M33, and I am looking for it to replace several pieces of gear. What I don't want to replace are my speakers and sub. Can I still connect my REL sub via it's high impedance inputs (that connect to the speaker terminals)? Will connecting the sub in that way significantly minimize Dirac's ability to optimize the system? Or is it more optimal to use the the sub outputs on the M33? Do you or readers know if the M33 can satisfactorily drive Magneplanar speakers relative to solid class A/B options?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  4 года назад +1

      I use my REL's with Dirac and they are connected to the speaker terminals. Make sure you set up the sub the best you can and then start the Dirac measurements. I have not tried Maggies with the M33 but surely there is no technical reason not to combine them.

    Thank you for another great review. One question I have that I am hoping you can answer is relating to the the quality of the source. Is this less important when using the M33's analogue inputs as it goes through an A/D/A conversion and so will sound the same no matter source plugged in? I am particularly interested in turntables here - would I hear the difference, say, between a £50 and £500 cartridge? I appreciate Dirac has another part to play in the chain but it is the pure signal element I am interested in. Thank you.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  3 года назад +1

      You can't separate one part of the M33 from the other. The question should be: will the difference between a £50 and £500 cartridge be just as audible as on an analog amp of the same class. I am convinced it will be and it might even be greater than on an analog amp since Dirac not only solves most room problems, by limiting room modes it also reduces acoustical feedback to the turntable resulting in a far better low end. Analog to digital conversion is simpler to do at high quality than digital to analog conversion and since both A/D and D/A are clocked by the same device, jitter will be very low too.

      @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you for the very quick and comprehensive response - I really appreciate it. It puts my mind at rest that the digital part of the A/D/A chain should retain the character and essence of the source. Dirac is icing on the cake so to speak.

      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  3 года назад +1

      I suspect the review M33 has now been returned. I received mine on Sunday and in the main have been quite happy with it. There are a couple of frustrations though. One is that whilst it is dead quiet through my speakers it does have a mechanical “hum” which is more like an odd continuous sound from the unit itself. The other is that the amplifier really needs turning up to 50% on the volume before the sound starts to fill the room. I would have thought with the power it has it would be more authoritative at lower levels. Did you notice either of these issues? Thanks.

    Great video, Hans. Did you try listening to Tidal MQA files via Roon? I've never had luck getting MQA to work properly on NAD devices via Roon. Wondering if that is resolved in this device. I think a couple of MQA files of Tidal sound great like "Anouar Brahem - Dance with waves" for instance (but there are a limited amount of MQA-files!), but their other stuff is not that good. If hi-res is needed and top quality too, then listen to Qobuz Studio at least, I use it on my superb T+A R1000E, and that's really an other ball park. I've listened to a lot of files in the same quality side by side and could easily hear the difference. I had three subscriptions in one month next to each other (Deezer Hifi Euro 14,99, Tidal Euro 19,99 and Qobuz Studio < 20 euro in a years subscription; never mind about Spotify or the even lesser quality Apple, that's mp3 stuff) and within a couple of days and decided very quickly that only Qobuz Studio would not get unsubscribed by me. The details in the files is great, can hear every instrument clearly, files are not flat sounding, a lot of depth, etc., Tidal sounds enhanced, thick, but basses are round and not clear to be a bass, it seems there is added some reverb or 'hall' effect to (a lot of) the files, a lot of files that they don't have they will put in mp3's or even artists that covered the song etc. so it seems to me. If a basic quality FLAC file is needed then I would use Deezer Hifi (or in a car or on the go) and if the ears are a little more spoiled already, then only Qobuz Studio or higher will do the trick. Only directly streamed from the internet I think you can get the highest quality sound, even way better than cd (even played with the > 2,5K cd-players), more live like sound, great sound stage, etc. Resolution comparable to top end turntables (vinyl). Make sure to compare all the files on the same system, not through Roon (some frequencies can be 'helped' in Roon), same speakers, same cables, same amp, same netfilter, because otherwise the comparison will not tell you anything and in a lot of stores the system they want you to buy are on expensive netfilters while the comparing systems are not, or the file is on a high end server playing through Roon while the other is not, etc. So if Qobuz will work on a NAD, then I would consider switching and that is the least expensive tweak anybody with a good system can do.
