Happy birthday David. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed this video. I laugh when people say they've "seen Mexico" after visiting a beach resort in Mexico. It would be like saying they had seen the USA after visiting the Las Vegas strip.
I cannot believe you have only 9800 views in over a year. The world is not fair. You are most definitely right at the top of the traveling RUclipsrs I've seen on Mexico. I think the difference is a sound education, a wry and wonderful sense of humor often using deprecation (humility is always welcomed in journalism), an intelligence far above average and most importantly, an ability to perceive your surroundings with depth. One difference as well is your age: So many RUclipsrs trotting around the globe on family money and meager savings are in their early 20's and have so little life experience to impart to their observations. You're at a stage where you have far more but aren't too old to be set in your ways or stubborn in your opinions. This gives you an enormous advantage over them and is the reason your content has so much more depth. Whatever you talk about just has a lot more relevance. I wonder if you've ever considered journalism on a deeper scale? You'd be far better than most professionals I see working for major news organizations. You'd be excellent at taking a subject and just exploring it to the nth degree. We have such short attention spans and this influences journalism since everything has to be sold or viewed/sold for ads, that this does affect how people produce their work. The key is to draw them in in the beginning and keep them there. After a while they'll be very glad they invested more than 3 minutes.
Thanks man! This means a lot. Everything you said I know exactly what you mean. I started travelling 20 years ago next year and the difference in life experience is drastic! I would love to be a journalist, the videos I make in areas like this (and the most recent one in Iztapalapa) are the ones I enjoy making the most as I like to challenge the views of mainstream media. Thanks again!

Something special about Acapulco for me....I am drawn to it ...I seldom go to the US side..only if I want something at Wal-Mart. Now I am in a hostel in Zocalo. Will be a week tomorrow that I am here.

I follow many RUclipsrs however i don’t usually post comments. I find your person and your videos so sincere and always looking for different angles. You don’t want to discourage tourist from coming to Mexico by showing the real Mexico I think you want us to see that even those so called dangerous places can have their magic and are worth to visit. I would love to show you one of my favorite places in Mexico and I believe you are going to love it. How can I get in touch with you. And hope you had had a great day on your birthday.

Nice video, happy birthday. I am suddenly interested in Acapulco and after your videos I would love to go. What you recommend to do go to the resort area or explore more the real things in the city?
Hey Jose, I think resort areas are fine and safe, and the buses are like 9 pesos to places like Caleta and up and down the bay so very affordable. I saw that you fund your travels by teaching online and I was interested in how many days/hours you work per week and which company you work with? I currently teach English in China and I'm wanting to give it up and travel full time, but taking the leap is quite scary!
Hi i use Italki, it's just like freelance so I'm not employed with them. At the moment I do about 3 days a week, max 8 lessons a day (mainly intermediate to advanced adults in Russia). I have other incomes like RUclips so it would be difficult if it was just Italki. From Italki I normally make about $900usd a month, more than enough for living in Mexico
My God David, you are truly the best ambassador to Mexico it could ever had. VERY Happy Birthday You are just like the irish decided to fight along the Mexican army against the invetiors "the americans" who eventually won the war taken over Texas
@@davidostrowski679 You better!!!! I fallowed a channel from a very young black american who moved to Tijuana, Baja, Ca. Anded up in the state of Guerrero meeting with the black mexicans living there He took the same chance wandering around Acapulco in to other sites He stayed in the state for months because people treated him like one of the them
I lived and visited all the colonias from 1962-2012. The businesses are closed because of killings and extortion. You can get a truck, that runs up and down the hills.
As a Mexican to foreigners, the "real" Mexico is EVERYTHING you see within its territory! That includes beaches, old colonial & modern cities, safe & unsafe areas, resorts, archeological sites, its EVERYTHING inside it's borders. Otherwise, we fall into making only stereotypes "real" or certain perspectives that "fit" a belief to be the "real" Mexico that one wants to see. Like every country in the world we are "varied", something for everyone. So, to say resorts are not part of the "real" Mexico or tourist areas not being Mexico, its denying a part of Mexico's identity. If a person is born in Cancun, or a nice area of Acapulco, does it make them an "unreal" Mexican?
Disagree. I've talked about this before. Real means authentic. You are not experiencing the authenticity of a country by sitting in a hotel room, regardless of the country.
I have to agree with David. If you go to Dubai for example, and I've been 4 times. It's so artificial unless you hang out in the old town by the Dubai creek where they still live day to day like they did hundreds of years ago trading goods, fishing at the Port, taking dhow boats back and forth as simple transportation and walking the streets. However, on the other side of town, the "new Dubai" is all glass and concrete and you can count the number of people walking around on one hand. It's like a ghost town outside. There's no authenticity at all. It's just a big tourist attraction like being in Las Vegas. I always stay in old town in one of the older more original hotels. It's like having a choice to eat at Taco Bell or a real Mexican restaurant😀. Only one is authentic.
Let me point something out if you've lived in Acapulco it can be an AMAZING experience, but don't expect it to have the same social values as you would in the country you come from. From a safety point I would recommend you don't wear flashy jewelry or carry large amounts of cash, be discreet and blend in. And for goodness sake don't walk around these areas at night your placing your life on the line. If you stay within the Costera Blvd. at night your pretty safe.
@@davidostrowski679 David: if I can recomend there is an interesting place with views of Acapulco bay that are not photographed very much. It's in the Veladero National Park and can be day hiked, although that was MANY years ago in my case. you can access it through the Plan de Ayala neighborhood if I recall.
@@wsgeo not possible anymore..Acapulco is sunk in crime..i use to go to the Veladero specially a hill know "falcons hill" where there are lots of these birds nests..not anymore..criminal go to those places to execute people..going there is a Russian roulette if it happens that you meet them
@@shiroumxm2052 How sad to see that things have gotten to such a point. I haven't been to Acapulco in about 30 years, and it was such a beautiful place although you had to be careful. I even spent time in the sierras east of Atoyac, at that time you needed a 4 wheel drive (and 500 pesos in your pocket in case u were held up) to access a small village called Progreso. It was an incredibly beautiful place.
It is so sad that drug gangs have pushed the tourist out. W5 is a Canadian tv show and if you have time look up W5 Travel to Cancun on youtube. I'm afraid that the same thing is happening in that area.
Pam Levenstein Hi Pam, I am in Mexico City now. My wife at home inToronto, told me about W5. If I were to go to Acapulco or Cancun, I would make sure to keep a low profile.
First time I disagree with your appreciation of a city David (Well....! come to think of it, I do LOVE Oaxaca!). I'm pretty sure it is due to the fact that I knew Acapulco in its heyday, it was such an amazing place back then. All that is gone now! All the elements you touched are true enough, but I put the blame first and foremost on becoming such a big city. There were less than 200,000 people back then (1970's), now it is over 700,000 - In that mountain encircled bay THAT IS A LOT!... For a good idea of how it was back then go instead to Zihuatanejo (avoid Ixtapa next to it), it is also in Guerrero State, but it is still a small beautiful town and bay. I would rather go there a hundred times before going to Acapulco again.
LOL the Oaxaca video will go down in history, it wasn't about Oaxaca, it was about my travel rage! jaja. I'm back in Mexico City now, it's testing my patience!
Acapulco La laja . Las cruces Renacimiento...locals can walk those places turist its a no no but . for me its like another places ..most people are amazing some are not. I WANT MY ACAPULCO BACK.
My answer about safest in Acapulco was no, because there are so many extortion, drug cartel, and murder surrounded in city of Acapulco. There is impossible to survive in Acapulco because the crime and danger level is extreme. In 2017 was total near 30,000 people died.

@@davidostrowski679 oh yes!! Saudi Arabia was a memorable trip ❤️. Thanks for asking 😁.
La Laja es muy tranquila ya ahorita
I like Acapulco (the marine region)
Aló ! David, happy birth day 🎊🐪💝🎉 you look nicely tan!!! Wish you the best for your next turn around the sun.
Nefer! I'm back in CDMX! I hope you're well!
If you stay within the Costera Blvd. at night your pretty safe.
you're right there. in places like here, Tepito in CDMX etc the plan is to look like a local as much as possible

David: if I can recomend there is an interesting place with views of Acapulco bay that are not photographed very much.

How sad to see that things have gotten to such a point.
Happy birthday 🎈🎉 David drink a lot of tequila brother.
Gracias amigo! I had wine, vodka and jagermeister. You will see in the next embarrasing drunk video jaja
hi david um !! past not my sort of place to go,,,,but i,m sure you know what your doing,, Happy birthday 🍻🍾🍰👍
Feliz cumpleaños and thank you for sharing this honest review of Acapulco.
There are many new megapojects for Acapulco to bring it back from the dead by the Mexican government
I've heard! Hopefully they are successful! #acapulcoresurrection
1962-2011 Earthquakes ran me away.
🎉OMG!! 🥳. . . Happy Birthday!!🔊🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👙🏝🕶🍻🌮🥑
I love Acapulco. Earthquakes no...
It is so sad that drug gangs have pushed the tourist out. W5 is a Canadian tv show and if you have time look up W5 Travel to Cancun on youtube. I'm afraid that the same thing is happening in that area.
Hey Pam! Yeah it's crazy. It was mostly Mexican tourists there, although I did hear some Americans in my hotel. Literally 1 couple that's it!
Pam Levenstein Hi Pam, I am in Mexico City now. My wife at home inToronto, told me about W5.
If I were to go to Acapulco or Cancun, I would make sure to keep a low profile.
@@ulyssesleslie5801 Thanks for sending me a message. It is so sad that it is coming down to that. Tourists will stop going one day !
I believe that was his point, to visit Acapulco for what it is now and imagine what it used to be.
Acapulco La laja . Las cruces Renacimiento...locals can walk those places turist its a no no but . for me its like another places ..most people are amazing some are not.
I WANT MY ACAPULCO BACK.
Why do you say "You can easily get hold of drugs" in a negative tone?
no idea, I can't remember what I said yesterday let alone 18 months ago
Mogadishu feels safe too, until it isn't.
And how do you find that out? By going there.

I did a few weeks ago, not that it's at all relevant. You don't look like you've got any to play with hun

My answer about safest in Acapulco was no, because there are so many extortion, drug cartel, and murder surrounded in city of Acapulco. There is impossible to survive in Acapulco because the crime and danger level is extreme. In 2017 was total near 30,000 people died.
bullshit i live here since 5 years never had any problems
