Your tutorials are absolutely amazing. I especially like the way you talk. You are such an expert and such a humble teacher. It is so different from all the "Kings", "Gurus" etc. Thank you very much.
I bought Motion 5 four weeks ago and really am indebted to you. You are an awesome teacher and have inspired me to create so many titles and transitions. I have just uploaded a pack of transitions which I want to share with whoever would like them - the bubble ones I think are cute - and I would love it if you would take a look and give me some feedback on how I am doing. It's just a 2 minute video but contains the transition pack and several titles that I have created. Thank you so much for inspiring me!
just watched a few of your tutorials... props for all the hard work and generous attitude! I tried to do this sort of thing in AE a few times and found it very frustrating... can't wait to try again in Motion!
Love your tutorials it's really helping me understand how to use Motion as I follow along. Would be really beneficial if you can touch on what each thing does every so often i.e: this blend mode does this or it is used for... Clone groups do.... etc Not every time but now and then. My goal is to master this this year. Keep up your amazing work.
Thanks or your feedback. Glad to hear the tutorials are useful to you. I do have plans to do some short tutorial that talk about more specific technical things and one of those is going to be on Blend Modes, so hopefully that will help. Clones too are confusing when you start using them but they are one of the really great features of Motion, so I'll have a think about doing something specifically about that too.
Just great explanation ! First time on your channel , was looking to get Motion ...you have convinced me ! Thanks ! And I am hitting the LIKE button and subscribing Serge 😉🎥🏔👍
+Jesse McKnight It's pretty easy actually, depending on the look you want. What I did was group together everything except the background group and applied a rectangular image mask to cut out the central section. Then I simply used a Substitute in/Out (under Behaviors/Text/Basic) on my text layer to "scramble" the text in and out, but you can use anything you like really. Adjust the length of the behaviors so the animation feels right. Adjust the start and end of the text so it feels as though it fits nicely with the rest of the animation. Hope that helps.
Hey Simon, I am currently making a Star Wars film where I need to put in the sith lightning effect. I wanted to know your thoughts on how to achieve this in motion 5?
Hello, that's a very cool tutorial, thank you for that. But I've got two questions. Where do i find the sounds? How do you animate the fade out effect of the text 'Loading'?
+Karl Larl The sounds come from the Motion Pulse collection: www.videocopilot.net/products/motionpulse/ I used the Substitute In/Out Text Behavior to animate the text on and off.
Hello Another great tutorial, thank you Simon. I particularly like the idea of using the clone to form a retiming group. Ive just found out though that Text Animation (such as type on) doesnt clone. anyone got any insight as to why that is?
It seems to work fine for me ... but there are plenty of bugs in Motion so I wouldn't be surprised if there are times when it doesn't quite work as expected.
It wasnt working for a colleague, so we had to remake an entire project. I did a quick test myself on mine and it didnt work. Later on i thought id try a whole range of text behaviours and sequencing and it all worked fine. I then got the rest of the department to test it, and it all worked fine, so i have no idea what the issues was. I thought it might be because i was working ogg 5.4 and they are on 5.2, but no. Guess its just one of those oddities. thanks for trying yourself though.
I love this tutorial. Question- why use the keyframe for the write on/off when you could just use the write on behavior (within the shape category of the behaviors list)? Just curious.
+My Instant Lunch Yes, you're quite right - you can do this using the "Draw and Erase" mode of the Write On behavior. I chose to do it with keyframes because a lot of users are a bit uncertain how they work so getting to practice them is hopefully useful.
HI Simon, I may be being completely dumb and not knowing what the term is called so not seeing it. So apologies in advance if that is the case. Have you done a tutorial on slamming/dropping/stamping an icon on screen for Apple Motion? And if so what is it called?
Could you link to an example? The easiest way to do a "stamp" is simply to make the layer appear instantly with no transition, but apply a little camera shake at the moment of impact. Please feel free to email me if you want more detailed info on this.
When I tried to make clones of the replicators like you has shown in video at 11:00, the features of clone layers not the same of the source, can you help me to check what's the problem ? thanks
after making clone layers they still just start at whatever point the original does. which gives a bad effect. what do I do to change that?, you said it baked in the source, why didn't it work?
Hey Simon! I'm a little late to the comment section here haha But i want to tell you that your tutorials are amazing! I've been going through this one but around 11:10 I'm getting stuck. After I duplicate the clone layer of the circle dots and then go to timing and click on reverse, for some reason that layer just disappears. I mean the layer doesn't disappear but the animation in the viewer does. Really strange. I'm on 5.4. Any Ideas on why this is happening? THANKS!
Farlander cd - Minecraft & More Thanks. The sound effects are from videocoplipot's Motion Pulse collection: www.videocopilot.net/products/motionpulse/ Insanely good value - I can't recommend this enough.
+Farlander cd - Minecraft & More Check out freesound.org. LOTS of amazing, free to use (with credits) sounds and sound effects. You won't be disappointed.
You're kidding, right? 49 dollars to own Motion is as close to free as you're going to get in this life, surely? If you really want free, why not try iMovie? You can do a surprising amount with it ...
Didn’t know where to write this... I’m trying to create a beam of light that rotates just like the one in this link: ruclips.net/video/xQXEq88BivQ/видео.html I tried making a 3D pyramid and lowering the opacity, but it just doesn’t look right... especially when I start to animate it. Any suggestions? I’m trying to add it to a lighthouse shot that I took to make it look like the lighthouse was lit. Thanks!
Loads of options for this but try my volumetric lighting tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/u2X3cIKY3Y0/видео.html I have more if that's not exactly what you want.
+jrhager84 I'm not trying to defend Motion, and there's certainly plenty that wrong with it, but it's only "unintuitive" if you're not familiar with how it works ... I think. The fact that you can make clones of clones is actually a powerful feature rather than an obstacle.
+Simon Ubsdell Understandable. I mean -- I *own* Motion. It's just never really struck me as something that can compete in the pro level. There seem to be lots of 'workarounds' to do what other editors can do. Maybe I'm just ignorant, but it can be fairly inhibiting in my eyes.
+jrhager84 I completely agree about the limitations, but clones are not one of them, at least in my opinion ;-) As to "competing on a pro level", it really does depend on what you are trying to do. I use it a lot for professional paying jobs because its speed is an advantage to me (especially compared to After Effects), but if I need a richer toolset I go elsewhere.
Im a video editor, im a senior in high school, and I have been trying/wanting to learn more with motion and this is fantastic. Thank you
Your tutorials are absolutely amazing. I especially like the way you talk. You are such an expert and such a humble teacher. It is so different from all the "Kings", "Gurus" etc. Thank you very much.
hey Simon. Thank you so much for your tutorials. Boosted my creativity and learned a lot.
Great to hear!
Fantastic tutorial, thanks. So many extremely useful (and simple) concepts.

Hey simon, thank you for sharing this amazing content for free. Wish you all the best for showing so much love to us🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Simon! You are the man.
Once again, you have a great tutorial here. Really like Motion projects that require no external assets to implement!
Please keep posting videos man. Your work is phenomenal.
+Mohammad Mohajoub Thanks very much.
Thanks a lot for your guides!
love this one!
Amazing! I'm in love with motion / fcp.
Bravo! Thanks for this awesome tutorial!

I can not seem to get the clones to work. They wont bake in the key frames like they did for you. Was this changed in an update. Thank you sir.

i might be wrong there. seems to be hit and miss, but its not working on some of my projects.

+William DeVore Thanks. It's a pretty simple project but I'm hoping that you can come up with some really interesting variants.

HELP!
when you add colour to the hexagons, why does the colour of mine not change at all
Third and it looks awsome! Where can i get the sounds?
Farlander cd - Minecraft & More Thanks. The sound effects are from videocoplipot's Motion Pulse collection: www.videocopilot.net/products/motionpulse/ Insanely good value - I can't recommend this enough.
+Simon Ubsdell it looks good, but is there a free or cheaper alternative?
No, not really :(
+Farlander cd - Minecraft & More Check out freesound.org. LOTS of amazing, free to use (with credits) sounds and sound effects. You won't be disappointed.
Mark Alan Cirino Thanks! I will check it out! I use iLife and RUclipss sounds now but those are a bit limited!
Is there any application like Apple Motion, or After Affects for free?
You're kidding, right? 49 dollars to own Motion is as close to free as you're going to get in this life, surely? If you really want free, why not try iMovie? You can do a surprising amount with it ...

How to make the Glitchy text?
+eMDee Use the Substitute In/Out Text Behavior.
Thanks a lot.

MY MOTION 5 CRASHED WHEN I DRAGGED THE HEXAGON THIN LMAO

Is Motion 5 really this unintuitive? Yikes...
'Make a clone of the clone of the clone of the clone of the clone of the clone...'
