Even I am a mother of 3 boys, cooking is my passion, so i taught my children too the art of cooking, because they are interested. But i would never say or show anyone down if they do not know cooking.. i didn't know too.. i have always taught my children that man or woman.. we are equal.. i wouldn't say that only girls should learn cooking as girls are not supposed to be only confined to the kitchen... I never let my gf to cook ..not coz she doesn't knw how to cook, i just love to cook. And If I'm back home in Kerala with mom i love to cook for her too.. What i mean is cooking is not just woman's playground... Most of the famous chief are man in our world.
As I was changing our bedsheets the other day my 4 yr old son comes to me and said Amma I am going to help you so you can get some rest. I laughed in my head but did not refuse his help. He went ahead and stripped the pillow cases and put them in the laundry and helped me put on the new set of sheets and blankets. I was so humbled. Right then my husband said had I grown up like that I would have changed the sheets by myself and not just "help" you. He also helps my husband whenever he builds or does something around the house. My point start them young teach them to be strong and independent. Do not stop your boys from changing sheets or helping you wash the rice or cut some ends of the beans. Fathers do not stop your girls from helping you with the car, or help you with home projects. To change a fuse, battery,bulb or pay bills. Dont wait till they are 15-18 to fix mistakes or worse say things like ," it will change once they get married." These gender assigned roles should stop. I have no hope for Annie. She is not going to change or even be bothered to see the folly in her idelogies.

For your reference please review anthropology article/ scientific study by Mark Dyble. Don’t fall for myths. The fact that women’s body is soft (I would not say weak) is because of the hormones for child birth. Giving birth needs more strength. So please never portray a women weak etc. Women are the strongest in that way to bear both physical and mental pain. Overall I agree men has more muscle power and physical aspects. But never portray women weak etc that not appropriate. I know it’s difficult to change mentality. Such mentality is dangerous for men and women. It is high time that we as a society understand that there are females who do not like to cook or rather are not passionate about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong in it. I am of the opinion that everyone (both male and female) should know to cook because money can buy you raw materials but will not fill your stomach unless you cook it. I feel if you can't cook for yourself you can't call yourself completely independent. However, expecting or forcing women to be expert in cooking is wrong. Similarly, expecting all men to be expert interested in sports, finances or fixing things at home is wrong. This is my opinion.

Not just BigBoss, even Annie's kitchen is a reflection of society. Even I've been living the convenience of my mother cooking for all of us when I am home and me cooking for myself when I go back to my place. Yet like you did. This should be called out. But not to shame them, to make them and others understand this perception of housewife is not something to carry forward to the next generation. I don't think Annie understands or realises many don't agree with her thought or that. I also don't think she's doing it deliberately. She's a grown elder women adjusted to specific custom which she believe to be harmless. Maybe when the world around her changes explicitly, she'll look into it then.
When you grow up in a particular environment, you are bound to follow and internalise the customs of that place. However if and when you move to another environment, you have to change yourself to adjust to the customs of that place. This applies to most situations and, in almost all cases, it is the responsibility of the person to behave accordingly. Not the responsibility of everyone else to teach them. You can give them pointers of course, but ultimately it's upto them to do the work. As for Annie, she's not that old. She's what, latest 30s or early 40s. This is the generation that is currently running thing in society. If they don't have the brain power to change and behave accordingly how can one expect the society to be better. Also, if my 80+ year old grandparents can change their thoughts and realise the importance of women working, learn how to use a smartphone etc etc, it's not very difficult for a woman in her 40s to realise that maybe the burden of cooking shouldn't fall solely on the woman. It's time we stop apologising for people who refuse to change.

You are right, no point apologising for someone else and that should never happen, I believe. Her generation is running the thing. But in populous view and practicality, this country is 60% young. They contribute to what maybe 15-20%? No point putting the hard fight to shame and mock them inorder and normalising it for upcoming generation that it is the way for change. Instead. Point out them in a large medium what is the necessity for a change, like this vloger did and focus on growing ups. With age goes up ego to accept things that younger generation say or practice. However, it is people of Annie's age group who are parents, parents-in-law, raising kids etc. Unless they change, they're still liable to raise and treat small kids and sons/daughters-in-law in these patriarchal, stereotypical ways. The repercussions can be long lasting. Change is coming, but from the looks of it, not in the next generation, but only 2-3 generations from now will there be any real progress. Right now, progressives are just treated youth being rebellious or 'thala thirinj pilaar'. I grant you, we shouldn't openly mock or insult them for their ways (however much I'd like to throw some pucham her way). But the pressure should definitely be on.

Questioning elders even for sane reasons were outrightly considered disrespectful, which have been forced broken now, gradually. This might also change when a whole lot of young women and men becomes a part of household. Even those men were raised that way, have opened up or have had to force open towards sharing work chores without disturbing the peace. Yes will take 2 generations atleast, it should actually to make sure the necessity of change reach deeper into minds than it remains forced.

സത്യത്തിൽ ഈ cooking അത്ര എളുപ്പമല്ല. ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ സാധനങ്ങൾ മറ്റുള്ളവർ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുക എന്നത് ഒട്ടും എളുപ്പം അല്ല. പണ്ട് ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിൽ division of labour നടന്നപ്പോൾ അടുക്കള പണി സ്ത്രീക്ക് ആയി എന്നത് സത്യം. ഇന്ന് കാലം മാറി എന്നതും സത്യം. പക്ഷെ വീട്ടിൽ cooking ചെയ്യുന്നവർ കുല സ്ത്രീകളും cooking അറിയാത്തവർ ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റും ഒന്നുമല്ല. അടുക്കള ഭരിച്ചവർ നല്ല അസ്സലായി വീടും ഭരിച്ചിരുന്നവർ ആണ്. Gender discrimination വരുന്നത് ഒരാൾക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാത്ത കാര്യം നിർബന്ധിച്ചു ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ആണ്. ആനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപെട്ട പോലെ അവർ ജീവിക്കട്ടെ. മറ്റുള്ളവരെ അളക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നിടത് ആണ് ആനി പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നത്.

As I was changing our bedsheets the other day my 4 yr old son comes to me and said Amma I am going to help you so you can get some rest. I laughed in my head but did not refuse his help. He went ahead and stripped the pillow cases and put them in the laundry and helped me put on the new set of sheets and blankets. I was so humbled. Right then my husband said had I grown up like that I would have changed the sheets by myself and not just "help" you. He also helps my husband whenever he builds or does something around the house. My point start them young teach them to be strong and independent. Do not stop your boys from changing sheets or helping you wash the rice or cut some ends of the beans. Fathers do not stop your girls from helping you with the car, or help you with home projects. To change a fuse, battery,bulb or pay bills. Dont wait till they are 15-18 to fix mistakes or worse say things like ," it will change once they get married." These gender assigned roles should stop.

The fact that women’s body is soft (I would not say weak) is because of the hormones for child birth. Giving birth needs more strength. It is high time that we as a society understand that there are females who do not like to cook or rather are not passionate about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong in it. I am of the opinion that everyone (both male and female) should know to cook because money can buy you raw materials but will not fill your stomach unless you cook it. I feel if you can't cook for yourself you can't call yourself completely independent. However, expecting or forcing women to be expert in cooking is wrong. Similarly, expecting all men to be expert interested in sports, finances or fixing things at home is wrong. This is my opinion.

Even I've been living the convenience of my mother cooking for all of us when I am home and me cooking for myself when I go back to my place. Yet like you did. This should be called out. But not to shame them, to make them and others understand this perception of housewife is not something to carry forward to the next generation. I don't think Annie understands or realises many don't agree with her thought or that. I also don't think she's doing it deliberately. She's a grown elder women adjusted to specific custom which she believe to be harmless. Maybe when the world around her changes explicitly, she'll look into it then.
When you grow up in a particular environment, you are bound to follow and internalise the customs of that place. However if and when you move to another environment, you have to change yourself to adjust to the customs of that place. This applies to most situations and, in almost all cases, it is the responsibility of the person to behave accordingly. Not the responsibility of everyone else to teach them. You can give them pointers of course, but ultimately it's upto them to do the work.
As for Annie, she's not that old. She's what, latest 30s or early 40s. This is the generation that is currently running thing in society. If they don't have the brain power to change and behave accordingly how can one expect the society to be better. Also, if my 80+ year old grandparents can change their thoughts and realise the importance of women working, learn how to use a smartphone etc etc, it's not very difficult for a woman in her 40s to realise that maybe the burden of cooking shouldn't fall solely on the woman.
It's time we stop apologising for people who refuse to change.

You are right, no point apologising for someone else and that should never happen, I believe. Her generation is running the thing. But in populous view and practicality, this country is 60% young. They contribute to what maybe 15-20%? No point putting the hard fight to shame and mock them inorder and normalising it for upcoming generation that it is the way for change. Instead. Point out them in a large medium what is the necessity for a change, like this vloger did and focus on growing ups. With age goes up ego to accept things that younger generation say or practice. Lots of factors into it why her brain doesn't understand the change required. I including a lot of my age friends I know have not come to terms with those tiktok weddings, I don't believe it is right to criticize them, yet I've not understood why I should accept that. Simply that is what it is all about.

@@gouthamna2 You make some good points. With age comes ego, I agree. As for the population, Idk the statistics so I'm not going to argue you on that. However, it is people of Annie's age group who are parents, parents-in-law, raising kids etc. Unless they change, they're still liable to raise and treat small kids and sons/daughters-in-law in these patriarchal, stereotypical ways. The repercussions can be long lasting. Change is coming, but from the looks of it, not in the next generation, but only 2-3 generations from now will there be any real progress. Right now, progressives are just treated youth being rebellious or 'thala thirinj pilaar'. I grant you, we shouldn't openly mock or insult them for their ways (however much I'd like to throw some pucham her way). But the pressure should definitely be on.

Conservative thinking has been misinterpreted for a long time. Questioning elders even for sane reasons were outrightly considered disrespectful, which have been forced broken now, gradually. This might also change when a whole lot of young women and men becomes a part of household. Even those men were raised that way, have opened up or have had to force open towards sharing work chores without disturbing the peace. Yes will take 2 generations atleast, it should actually to make sure the necessity of change reach deeper into minds than it remains forced.
