You need to connect the soundbar to another smart box, such as, Apple TV, Firestick, Roku via HDMI. And, you need to connect the external subwoofer to the TV via optical through digital to analog convertor. That is what I think..
This method is a workaround for those who don’t have a sub out on either their soundbar or tv, if you have a sub out then that’s a better option but if not then this method will enable you to add a sub via the optical port. As soon as you add bass you’re going to be wanting to upgrade your speakers because the TVs built in speakers won’t be able to keep up. You can do it but as you’re starting with a clean slate I would suggest looking at better options for a 3.1/5.1/7.1 setup as the experience you’ll get will be a world of difference compared to the TVs speakers.

@@MATechRUclips for the first method that you explain, if I adjusted the Sub Frequency as low as 50/60 hz, are the sound of vocal and music come out along with the boom/thump from the Sub or just the boom/thump ? The sub will be filling in sound the original system can’t produce, it won’t take those signals from the original source but if you’re adding a sub I’m guessing the original setup wouldn’t be capable of it. Basically the issue you can have is at 120hz (thx spec) some deep voices will be played through the subs, but below 80hz it’s not discernible where the bass is coming from so if the timing is slightly off (ms) then it won’t be too noticeable.
Hey man I know this video is a year old but I was wondering if I could connect a powered sub to my Bluetooth speaker using an aux Y to rca. Got a Harmon kardon onyx that has an aux port and just picked up a CRAZY Martin Logan 1000w sub from Salvation Army for $50. Any help is appreciated I just don’t have a Y cable right now
If the Bluetooth speaker is using Bluetooth to connect then the only method would be that’s shown in video. If you’re using any form of wired connection for the speaker then you should be able to split the signal and send one to the sub but that may make the audio mono so will involve a lot of cables and splitters.
So i will be a little bit confused, so my question is this i have a tv that is connected to a 2.0 soundbar via an optical cable, so i can connect the tv with the optical to this device and from another end i connect my subwoofer, but how the soundbar will be connected on this setup i dont get it through an HDMI connection for example that it goes to the tv or via a 3mm jack
Watch the video, if your components match the setup type (soundbar via hdmi and subwoofer via optical) then it will work for any brand products. If your connection types don’t match then it won’t work.
Hello please I have a wired Sony sound woofer base and a wireless lg soundbar that does not have sub out.can u please help me with how I could connect them to work.thanks
My subwoofer is a wireless Samsung do you have any ideas there is no input on the sub beyond the wireless that would of connected to the soundbar it originally was made for I refuse to throw it and am willing to put the time into making it work
Unlikely that will work without major surgery. Not sure what Samsung uses as their signal for wireless subs but to bypass it you’ll most likely need to modify the board to take a speaker level or rca input which to be honest probably isn’t worth the effort as the bass put out by any soundbar sub is going to boomy at best.
Hi I need some help, I have an LG Wallpaper TV that comes with the soundbar/TV brain box all built into one unit. The soundbar has zero bass, I'm currently using another LG soundbar with sunwoofer hooked up to the brain box/soundbar via optical cable. I pretty much have 2 soundbars but not using the main one, is there a way to hook up a subwoofer to the oem TV soundbar through optical or any other way so I can eliminate the second soundbar? Please help!
The optical out is always outputting sound regardless how you have it setup. Firstly you want your main soundbar that you are using to be connected via hdmi to the brain, secondly take the optical out from your main brain to an external sub like in this video to add extra bass. You will need to reduce the crossover below 60hz to prevent you getting a delayed bass response as frequencies that low aren’t as noticeable (the added devices delay the bass compared to if the sub was connected straight to your actual soundbar, if that makes sense).
How do you add a powered subwoofer if you’re connected via BLUETOOTH to a soundbar though? My set up is a sony HT-CT390 connected to my phone (Bluetooth) I have an extra powered subwoofer and the subwoofer that came with the sony is not is just basic.
Hi, I have watched your video a couple of times, but I don't seem to understand. Here is my setup: Samsung Q990B 11.1.4 Channel Soundbar connected via E-Arc HDMI to my Q82B Samsung TV. I was thinking on buying Klipsch SW100 and connecting it. Both, my TV and my soundbar have optical. Can you please give me a step by step understanding on how do I connect it to my setup? Thank you.
Do exactly what I’ve done in the video. The optical on your soundbar is for connecting to the tv and isn’t sending a signal so connecting to that won’t do anything.
@@MATechRUclips In theory, if I connect my powered subwoofer to my TV via the digital to analog audio convertor. And, I connect my soundbar to the TV via a set top box. Will this work?
There’s another hack that works, I connected a wireless transmitter/receiver to my Samsung subwoofer soundbar q950t and the receiver/transmitter via rca to my klipsch r12sw and worked like a charm.

Hello. If my source is a smart TV and my soundbar is connected to the TV via arc/earc, and I will hook up the subwoofer to the tv as well, will the soundbar and subwoofer work simultaneously? Thank you in advance.
Hi, great video. Thank you. In my LG OLED TV I can select only one sound system connection Bluetooth/ARC/Optical. I have already connected my Sound bar through HDMI. Will this work with my TV connection? Please let me know your thoughts
Usually when arc is selected it also enables optical at the same time but some TVs disable the optical so best to test with your tv set. Most I’ve tested have the optical signal being sent all the time regardless of output method being utilised
Hi, I have a bit of an issue and am unsure if it’ll work but, I have a fire stick hooked up to the earc input on Samsung soundbar, then output to older Samsung tv (unsure of the model). The tv does have an optical out which I am trying to set up the way you have it, with the converter (not exact one you have), but it’s not playing through the extra powered sub. Any tips or am I missing something?
Some TVs have a setting to use hdmi+optical in the sound settings and that enables optical to work alongside either internal speakers or external setup via arc.
Mine doesn’t. But also some information to help understand better is that my tv speakers don’t play even when I go into the tv audio settings. But my older set up when I had the firs tick plugged into the tv I was able to have tv speakers and optical out playing at the same time.
Can't get it to work for some reason unfortunately. Have the Monster splitter, RCA coming out of the subwoofer to the analog side, then optical from the digital side running to my tv or my sound bar, and then my HDMI (ARC) running from my sound bar to my tv. neither running the optical to the soundbar or tv work for some reason
Needs to go from tv to splitter, splitter to subwoofer. Some tvs need you to change a setting to enable hdmi arc/earc + optical as by default it will use just one and the tv needs to be told to use both
I just bought the SKS sb 1000 pros using this method to my samsung hw950A, the only issue that i may found that bug me is the delay. Is the delay that noticeable that hardly/somewhat take away from your movie watching expierence?
It’s more prevalent if you set the sub to 120hz (thx), if you set it to 80hz or below it’s almost impossible to distinguish as at that point the bass can’t be localised. This is obviously dependent on the delay from your source device (in my case the Hisense L9G ) but most should be okay below 80hz.
Thank you ! Last one more question, “ so being you have your sound bar connected as well with monolith subwoofer ,would the setting on your projector for selection of audio device stay the same? Asking because on my lg c2 tv it device options currently HDMI arc and for anything optical selection would be with for example “ optical/bluetooth or optical/ tv speakers”. Or does it not matter for the audio device setting selection.
I’m not using a soundbar anymore, I upgraded months ago, but using this example you leave everything as it is. The optical port is always outputting a signal whether it’s selected in the settings or not therefore you leave your setup as it is and the subwoofer’s amplifier will get its signal when connected via the optical port. Set the crossover below 80hz and you shouldn’t be able to notice any delay in the audio between the arc/optical port outputs.
@@MATechRUclips completely understand thank you for the quick reply. For your experience with that time frame of that set up did you still got a great cinema experience regardless of the unorthodox hack/setup?
It added much needed tactile bass rather than the boomy bass you get from soundbars typically. The downside is you have to set the sub level manually so what I did was set my sub at the gain it would normally blend nicely with my soundbar at the volume I’d used for movies and left it there. My new setup is a millions times better (and around £10K in total cost so understandably should be), but for what it was the soundbar setup served a purpose and was a lot simpler to setup and cable manage compared to my current setup. I have a playlist on my channel where you can see all the changes I’ve made to my setup: ruclips.net/p/PLtCme_OTaQwe-Egonsekiqc6h1l4UULQc
Alright you seem to be the only person that can help here lol. I have a Samsung Soundbar and Subwoofer. Just like your case here, I bought a big boy Sub to add to the Set up. The Soundbar only has 3 plugs in the back Optical (which is in the TV for sound) and then power cable and a USB. So I tried to get an RCA to USB cable and that didn’t seem to do the trick. With the converter you have here and the most that I see on Amazon it has RCA on one side and then Optical on the other. I could be totally dumb here , but what then plugs into my TV to connect all devices for sound. Do I need to find an optical splitter? Any help is appreciated here
@@MATechRUclips But then the Soundbar wouldn’t be connected to anything. Soundbar optical connects to TV. The analog Converter only has one optical port, from what I see
Ah, I see. To be honest any soundbar that doesn’t have hdmi probably isn’t worth messing around with, the way you’d need it would be soundbar via hdmi to tv and then optical out to the converter and from there to the subwoofer. The only soundbars I’ve seen that only have optical usually have very very low output and thus any subwoofer you pair to them would be overpowering everything and you’ll struggle to get bass and audio in sync.
@@MATechRUclips I see what you’re saying. So you think I would just need a whole new Soundbar? I mean it has great output I think, (plus my neighbors think so too😬….) Also the HDMI 2.1 is from the 4k TV to PS5. So I don’t understand w my little brain about how I would do that either. Do you think I could find an Optical into Auxiliary cable, to attach from Soundbar to Converter. And then Coverter to the TV with a standard optical? Or possibly that I could attach RCA (sub) to the Converter and Optical (Soundbar) into the converter. To then attach Converter with an Auxiliary to the TV….? But I think that wouldn’t work because the TV should be running sound through the optical port….
I have a soundbar connected earc to Sony tv and a Bluetooth transmitter connected to optical for headphones which doesn't work when the soundbar is on. So I am guessing my tv doesn't transmit Audio through optical at the same time as earc? Is there another way to test this?
@@MATechRUclips thanks for the reply I will do some research. But in the meantime I have found my Sony HT-Z9F soundbar has hidden 3.5m outputs for the rear speakers and subwoofer so fingers crossed this works!
if the signal is set to digital audio out i.e dolby digital optical will carry digital 5.1 which converter won't be able to convert to analog..this will work for pcm outputs not for 5.1 or atmos like from netflix
If you’re only using it for bass it doesn’t matter as the signal is still sent. I’ve tested this using a lg Sn11rg soundbar and played back atmos content without any issues. The only think to be aware off is the audio delay which can either be corrected with a mini dsp or just set crossover below 80hz and you’ll probably never even realise.
You may be able to set your tv to output to tv speakers + Bluetooth at the same time and that would enable you to make use of both. My lg c9 gives me the option of using tv speakers + optical out or tv+ Bluetooth iirc.
Also if you have a pc you can connect the soundbar by HDMI and the subwoofer by jack or any other sound output and than you just need a program that allows you to hear sound on 2 devices simultaneously
This doesn't seem to work in my case. I have the soundbar plugged in with hdmi eArc and the extra sub in the optical. On the TV, I can only choose one or the other. I have the LG g1 TV, anybody know if it's possible to enable both at the same time?
I have a LG 7.1 Soundbar connected to my projector. I have an extra klipsch subwoofer which I want to add to this and make it 7.2. My projector has aux and hdmi arc only. Also my projector has built in apps so I don't need to use chromecast or fire stick. Now my question is can you help me understand what I should do in order to connect my klipsch subwoofer? Please guide me with the steps. Thanks.
First thing you need to determine is whether the projector or soundbar has any additional outputs and secondly whether they work at the same time as hdmi arc, if the answer to either of this is negative then you won’t be able to connect the additional subwoofer using your setup.
I ran into a problem, when my Tv plays a 5.1 movie (since i have a 5.1 soundsystem connected with arc) my Subwoofer starts buzzing like crazy even when nothing is playing :(
Is this a general issue or to do with the setup in this video? The type of content shouldn’t make any difference as far as optical out aside from the fact that optical doesn’t support atmos but that’s not an issue as you’re only utilising LFE for this hack anyway. Most likely your issue will lie in one of the cables in the setup possibly being damaged. The final thing to check is the subwoofer and amplifier setup as what you’ve described also has symptoms of bad earthing within an amplifier but that would be last port of call if it’s working otherwise. Most tvs output optical all the time but some do need you to go into the settings of the tv and change it to allow arc + optical as well as setting the audio output method so may be worth trying them to see if that solves your issue.

Everything needed is mentioned in the video, but the other issue you may have using that setup is audio sync so you’ll need to test with frequency to see if you can improve it or use external bass management to delay or advance the bass to the individual sub you want to add accordingly.
@@MATechRUclips Ok .... If am getting it correctly then if wired sub is added so there will be mismatch in sound or delay with that coing out of the soundbar ? Then how do I control it , if this happens ? Is there any further device to control the delay as u mentioned with the new wired sub ?
Yes there’s devices you can use that manage external subwoofers, I can’t remember the name of the brand but you’ll probably find videos on RUclips about the most common brands, they’re just external bass controllers that take a single subwoofer signal and usually split it into 4 that you can time align as required. You may be able to do enough via just the amplifier for the subwoofer but if not then external processors would be able to do it for you. You won’t know until you test in your setup.

If you’re already using the optical then it won’t work
I have a sharp ht-110sb soundbar ... Please can i i get connect it to my LG HT505-TH subwoofer ??? And how please
If you’re unable to follow the instructions in this video then it’s probably unlikely the gear you have can be used together
So how do you know you’ve got the right digital to analogue converter?
It should say digital to analogue, and not digital to digital or digital to optical or any other variant.
Hi Can I add yamaha NS-SW200 to Bose 900 soundbar?
If you’re able to follow the process in the video then it should work.
How do you add a powered subwoofer if you’re connected via BLUETOOTH to a soundbar though? My set up is a sony HT-CT390 connected to my phone (Bluetooth) I have an extra powered subwoofer and the subwoofer that came with the sony is not is just basic.
Same way as shown in the video.
Hi, I have watched your video a couple of times, but I don't seem to understand. Here is my setup:
Samsung Q990B 11.1.4 Channel Soundbar connected via E-Arc HDMI to my Q82B Samsung TV.
Yes, that’s what my setup was temporarily.
@@MATechRUclips Thank you.
There’s another hack that works, I connected a wireless transmitter/receiver to my Samsung subwoofer soundbar q950t and the receiver/transmitter via rca to my klipsch r12sw and worked like a charm.
I also have two 2.1 subwoofer system
can i play sound in both of them using 1 AV cable and another using 3.5 mm jack connector using your DAC converter.
As long as you can get the signal out of the TV and then share it with both subs they will both play the same output
Hello. If my source is a smart TV and my soundbar is connected to the TV via arc/earc, and I will hook up the subwoofer to the tv as well, will the soundbar and subwoofer work simultaneously? On my TV, you need to choose only one audio out e.g. optical/HDMI Arc, Bluetooth, Wired Headphones, etc.I’m planning to purchase a powered subwoofer but my JBL Bar 5.0 has no subwoofer out. Thank you in advance.
If this isn’t possible, do you know another way to make this work - tv, soundbar, subwoofer?
Even if you choose a different output the lfe still outputs on my projectors optical port so it should work for you if you’re using arc + optical
@@MATechRUclips I hope you’re right so I won’t have to sell my soundbar and get a new one that comes with a subwoofer. Thank you! Great help! 👍🏼
@@TheCzev It works?
@@Schoolboydave23 yes! It works! I got the digital to analog converter from Neoteck instead of the one in this video.
What if my tv already has phono channels to plug into is this adapter necessary to purchase?
They’ll be for input most likely but you can always try them.
So if I were to buy this adapter, I would be able to simultaneously use my Bluetooth soundbar with my wired subwoofer? @@MATechRUclips
Yes, but as advised in the video you may have a time sync issue when using Bluetooth because of the delay.
Sir. Did You connect L&R rca from converter to L&R rca subwoofer?
You only need one for sub but it won’t make any difference if you connect both.
That answers my question. Thanks!
Hi, I bought a Samsung subwoofer from a friend, but no soundbar. It has no port, can I use it to other amplifier or other soundbar?
Not from what you’re describing.
I have a playlist on my channel where you can see all the changes I’ve made to my setup:

Any help is appreciated here
You go optical from the tv to the analogue converter, and then rca from optical converter to your sub.
I mean it has great output I think, (plus my neighbors think so too😬….)
Also the HDMI 2.1 is from the 4k TV to PS5.
@@MATechRUclips God I’m a mess😂🤦🏼♂️
Is it possible to connect a subwoofer to my tv, so that the sound is still coming from my tv but it also has a external subwoofer providing the bass?
The video literally tells you how to do that 🤷🏽♂️
I have a soundbar connected earc to Sony tv and a Bluetooth transmitter connected to optical for headphones which doesn't work when the soundbar is on. So I am guessing my tv doesn't transmit Audio through optical at the same time as earc? Is there another way to test this?
There’s sometimes a setting in your audio section to have both enabled (for the TVs that support it) at the same time.
@@MATechRUclips thanks for the reply I will do some research. But in the meantime I have found my Sony HT-Z9F soundbar has hidden 3.5m outputs for the rear speakers and subwoofer so fingers crossed this works!
👍🏽
I live in the US and can't find it on Amazon is there an alternative or does it have to be the exact one you have
Can be anyone as long as it’s digital to analogue
@MA Tech also my soundbar does have an optical port so once I set everything up does that mean I can plug it into my soundbar optical port
If it’s optical out then yes
@MA Tech just checked it apparently I can't do it. It's a digital optical input 😫😫
Thought it might be, you can still use your TVs optical output and it should work fine.
if the signal is set to digital audio out i.e dolby digital optical will carry digital 5.1 which converter won't be able to convert to analog..this will work for pcm outputs not for 5.1 or atmos like from netflix
So is the soundbar connected wirelessly?
Via hdmi
Thanks for this , I have a great speakers on my tv but wanted a little more bass and did not want to get a soundbar this sorted the problem
Glad I could help, don’t forget to subscribe and like the video 👍🏽
Need a little help. I only have Bluetooth woofer and no soundbar! Can i use it with anyone speakers?? 😊
You may be able to set your tv to output to tv speakers + Bluetooth at the same time and that would enable you to make use of both.
My lg c9 gives me the option of using tv speakers + optical out or tv+ Bluetooth iirc.
Omg will trY
Also if you have a pc you can connect the soundbar by HDMI and the subwoofer by jack or any other sound output and than you just need a program that allows you to hear sound on 2 devices simultaneously
Yes, that could work as well.
This doesn't seem to work in my case. I have the soundbar plugged in with hdmi eArc and the extra sub in the optical. On the TV, I can only choose one or the other. I have the LG g1 TV, anybody know if it's possible to enable both at the same time?
My C9 gives an option for both earc and optical to be enabled in the audio settings.
What are the outlets from your sub?
Not sure what you mean? Please elaborate.
Thanks for taking the time too make and post this video. Also, could I connect my powered sub straight too the TV.
You’re most welcome 👍🏽
If you follow the method in the video it should work for you.
@@MATechRUclips Thank you very much, have a great Christmas.
Wouldnt this only be good when in stereo mode. Because you wouldnt be getting LFE channel in surround sound.
Optical port outputs all the signal and the crossover on your amp will set the LFE
Nice job bro! 😎👍
👍🏽
Hi,I am from India n eventually came across ur solution. Trust me I have been looking for such a solution from almost 2 years now as I don't want to throw my soundbar its actually good . I have LG SP11RA 7.1.4 Atmos soundbar. But same as everyone i feel the thump & rumble is missing from Sub. I have LG OLED C3 connected to this via eARC & Android TV box connected to TV's one of the hdmi IN. So i need your help if u can guide me the exact device i have to purchase & i can invest in a wired good sub additional ... I would appreciate your your help here ... I hope this would work if i get a new additional sub.
Apologies if i made it too long for you to read.
@@MATechRUclips If yes then how do I connect it to my soundbar & get a new wired sub to be connected using this ?
Soundbar still connects via hdmi and any extra subs go through optical from the tv.
Hello sir. I just subscribed and I hope to learn more about setups. Thanks for the information and tips.

Is the delay really noticeable?
Only if you have the crossover set higher than 80hz, otherwise is not really noticeable as you can’t localise the bass below 80hz
