- In 1986 Penguin Adventure defined the MSX gaming spirit.
Amazing technical achievement, gameplay and charisma, the like of Mario on NES and Sonic on Sega.
This awesome game wasn't ported on any other machine and remained exclusive to the MSX!
It featured colorful and detailed sprites, as well as catchy and memorable music. The game's visuals are considered as some of the best on the first generation of MSX machines, and Konami's dedication to them is clear on this game.
With a rich variety of secrets, of cool scenes and a genuinely compelling gameplay, Penguin Adventure is the best showcase of the MSX spirit.
Games like The Maze of Galious are deeper and more complex, the Nemesis and Salamander series have become classics on the MSX as well as on other machines. They revealed what the MSX is really capable of, they showed its guts. But Penguin Adventure showed its soul!..
This is my personal story with the game back then...
I follow all your works, yet I revisit this particular clip from time to time because I enjoy hearing you speak as if it were me, and experiencing all the emotions I felt back then. Thanks for sharing these golden age memories... glory days!
Thanks a lot my friend, I really appreciate that, and truly glad you do enjoy
That music starting at 2:00 , from The Maze of Galious, still gives me shivers
As you probably know, MSX was quite common in Brazil for some time, even having two local clones called HotBit an Expert. I bought as Expert and I remember playing Penguin Adventure a lot. Thanks for the memories :)
Thank you for sharing and for your interest. Salute to Brazil!
Have you seen Strafefox's newest video about Konami and the MSX? Absolutely top notch and super fascinating!
Real nice one
One of my all-time favorites.
You and i... Same Generation for the MSX games, and crazed Konami fans for the MSX..... What a blast that was in the 80's
You bet :)
This is one of the first games that Hideo Kojima was involved with, shame you didn't show the contributors to the game at the vert end, I've played that game for many hours. It is harder on my MSX2+ since the refresh rate is 60hz. All good fun!
The first game I mail ordered was Antarctic Adventure January 1985. You had to buy it direct from Konami UK as the cartridges were not widely available. It cost £18 which is £70 in todays money. I borrowed Penguin Adventure from a friend in exchange for Nemesis. It was a great game but the little cardboard boxes were easy to damage in school satchels
Thanks for sharing, those details really put us in context. Same thing I try to achieve in my videos. Indeed it was sometimes challenging to find MSX games!
This game was soooooo hard.
We could not finish it without the Game Master cartridge.
We also lost the manual of the game, so we had to discover what the items we purchased do by ourselves...😅
I finished it without any help back in the day ;)
@@RetroDream I managed to finish every Konami game except this one and Knightmare
How I have this game, Konami MSX Antiques Collection for the Sega Saturn.
I just 1ccd the game today with no guide. i love penta!
This is a neat sorry! And your risk paid off! It's a neat game!
How nostalgic!
I 100% agree with your opinion that this game is very special.
Thank you very much for bringing me those wonderful memories.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@RetroDream Yes; very much! (and you really did a great job (y) )
