His comments about life outside of stage, getting older etc. So deep ❤ No Robert, it wasn’t stupid, it was full of wisdom.

It’s important to remember the context of this video. Clearly Robert Smith (who has always been uncomfortable in the interview chair) was not prepared for a crowded press conference and (as he says in his last comment) he obviously wanted to be outside listening to the other artists. It was 2012, still the beginning of the transformation that smartphones would make to society. The very idea of social media was still quite a “young people” thing. TikTok didn’t exist. Very few adults were used to the idea that everything we say could be immediately broadcast and accessible to anyone. And it was the band’s first performance during a very sensitive time (as he describes at the end). He was also likely taking heat for both performing at all and especially with a new guitarist. This video gives a better sense of the fire that clearly burns under the surface of his skin and I’m sure it was awkward for everyone there and it’s a bit hair-raising to listen to at the beginning, but it makes a lot of sense given the context of the time and the situation for the band and for him. Thanks for sharing.

He disdains interviews but the nature of interviewing pop groups is that there really is little to ask. The interviewers have to cough up questions, many of which sound vapid. But what else would you ask? This isn't about a cure for cancer.

So much is being lost in translation or an (edit: a) lack of. Robert’s slight of humor is going beyond this crowd making the laughing, light and funny reactions being sent out to space with blank faces. Still, I love listening to his mind and honesty and chuckled throughout. Deep love ♥️ and respect for This creative human human.

Robert didn't joke about what music he listened at that moment. He joked that she is a new artist.
It was a good press conference, I like its vibes. And Robert was interesting.
    Thanks for posting that.

He really doesn't like having a conversation with a room full of people - I remember in an interview he said he thinks it's unnatural. I reckon he wasn't told just how many would be there - so his embarrassment/awkwardness I think is coming off as anger/annoyance.

I enjoyed Robert’s insight about the relationship with his current Cure lineup, as well as his former members.
He also didn’t sound like he wanted to be doing a press conference and would rather be listening to other bands performing and be drinking with his bandmates. Thank you for posting!

My heart hurts for Robert so much. Hes terribly uncomfortable. What else can he do but be sarcastic? What an awful environment for the interview, too. Hes forced into these situations which is to be expected as the lead singer but oh how anxiety ridden he must be. If he could crawl into himself he would. Then these questions are appalling. I love him so much and respect his need for privacy. Bless u, Robert! The fans appreciate so much u have to endure. ❤🤗

I completely understand Robert's demeanour. You are told there will be 4 people in a room to talk to only to walking into a room filled with people just staring at you expecting something. Its off putting and annoying. You feel lied too and trapped and then have inane questions fired at you. It's horrible. I thought he handled it well enough. He stayed composed and endured it.

He surely wasn’t comfortable, but feel quite obligated to be there and give those reporters an insight about his band , however robert definitely did not like the environment he was in , but for some reason he had no choice but to confront the situation, he did his best according to his mood at the time.

  • @fredoc2602
    @fredoc2602 7 месяцев назад

Robert has consistently repeated over the years how much he hated being the centre of attention. The adulatiion, the obsession with fame and celebrity is "just junk" ; "it's a vacuum. There's absolutely nothing to it.", i remember him saying in an interview. No wonder he felt terribly out of place and uncomfortable in front of these people staring at him, not even understanding a word of what he was saying.
As a French person, i am appalled by how awfully bad my compatriots are when it comes to speaking English. That woman was fucking useless! And the people asking questions were barely understandable. You see interviews in any country, and although the questions aren't necessarily always smart, at least the journalists seem to make an effort to speak proper English, whereas the French are generally hopeless. it's pathetic!
I saw a video of that same interview with French subtitles and the translation was so bad, it was embarrssing. RS is a sensitive, humble and very profound person. Watching him try to express what's on his mind and heart with his usual wit and sense of humour to people who don't seem to get any of it is almost painful.
