  • On this outing the wind was really strong, swell was above moderate, things are against you but you can still manage to be successful. As a rock angler you can only do what you can with what weather and sea conditions you have on the day. Test your limits, be calculated for yourself, as an individual and don't put yourself in a bad predicament unless you really know what you are doing. At this spot there was a lot of reef/ rocks making it that much harder.

    Love these videos Alex. I'm evolving into a more well-rounded rockhopper thanks to you and am starting to think outside the square more and fish conditions I wouldn't normally fish. This morning there was a big SSE swell rolling in and my normal drummer ledges were dangerous and unfishable. I drove around and found a foam covered swallow gutter protected by a large section of reef running out to sea in an easterly direction which took the brunt of the big swell. Fished light - 15 lb and berleyed just a little (soaked chicken pellets - they work and allow you to make ground bait bombs). Between 8.30 am and 9.30 am I managed 3 drummer, 1 tarwhine and a 54.5 cm brown groper. Great fun and even better eating!

    • @AlexBellissimo
      @AlexBellissimo  Год назад

      On the clearer days stand up high if you can and you will see the reef and sand edge. It can vary from 20 to 100 m out.
      My largest snapper off the rocks is 18 3/4lb about 8.5kg but a very long time ago off the rocks 🥹

  • @jb-es5zj
    @jb-es5zj 2 года назад +1

    my tip for snapper fishing off the rocks get some filler rod foam from bunnings etc thread about 2/3 cm on your hook and feed it up the line when your rig sinks it keeps the bait etc off the bottom ive only used it for squid legs and have caught plenty this way and get some smell into it like a sent and i reckon it would still atttract fish to bite if hungry use on a paternota rig

    • @AlexBellissimo
      @AlexBellissimo  2 года назад +1

      I use some foam to keep the bait suspended off the bottom from time to time. It is the sinker that gets snagged not so much the hook. Terrains vary

    Hi Alex I’m just getting into fishing off the rocks , went out on the weekend with 4 meter swell and could not keep the line in the water . I tried sinkers from size 4 to un weighted with snags every time . Would 3 ounce sinker work in this case or with that size swell stay at home. you need a good rod and reel to cast right out into that deep water behind the breakers and be there before sun up. A bit of rough swell and a overcast days and a run up tide are prime time and fresh squid not fish shop crap or pillies they work to but dont stay on the hook when its rough very well.To catch good fish any where you have to put the hours in and hard work in they dont come easy very often good luck hope this helps.

    • @AlexBellissimo
      @AlexBellissimo  2 года назад

      Stand up on a higher ledge and look out to sea. You will see the darker patches which is reef. Then look further out you may see the lighter patches and that is sand. You will get less snags, less eels, sharks and more snapper, trevally and more. 👍
