Episode 8: Chrysanthemum Garden Autumn Sonata @

The Hwadam Forest is an arboretum established & operated by the LG Sangnok Foundation as part of a public interest project., and was established in April 2006 on 165,265 sq.m (about 50,000 pyeong). Hwadam Forest is an on-site research facility aimed at restoring endangered plants and animals; and restoring the ecosystem before it became a viewing facility.
화담숲은 LG 상록재단이 공익사업의 일환으로 설립 운영하는 수목원이며, 지난 2006년 4월 조성승인을 받아 경기도 광주시 도척면 도웅리에
위치한 165,265㎡ (약 5만평)에 조성되었습니다.
정식 개원은 2013년으로 17개의 테마원과 국내 자생식물 및 도입식물 4,000여종을 수집하여 전시하고 있습니다.
화담숲은 관람시설이기 이전에 멸종위기의 동식물을 복원하여 자연 속에 자리 잡게 하는 생태계 복원을 목표로 한 현장 연구시설입니다.
단순히 멋진 풍경을 위해서 다양한 나무를 모아놓은 것이 아니라,
생물자원 보호 차원에서 국내 최다 종을 수집하고 있으며 13,800㎡ 의 국내 최대 규모 소나무정원도 화담숲의 큰 자랑입니다.
더불어, 9,450㎡ 규모로 산기슭에 솔이끼, 돌솔이끼 등 30여 종의 이끼를 조성하여 놓은 '이끼원'은 습도, 경사, 햇빛 등 까다로운 생장 조건이 충족되지 않으면
잘 자라지 않아, 10년 넘게 생육 조건을 맞추는 연구를 거듭해서 만들어진 노력의 결과물로 우리나라에서 이끼로 만들어진 정원은 화담숲이 유일합니다.
초록빛 카펫을 깔아놓은 듯한 이끼원 주변으로 자연계곡과 소나무, 단풍나무들이 어우러져, 그 속에서 자연을 숨쉬며 느낄 수 있습니다.
또한 지금은 찾아보기 힘든 반딧불이를 볼 수 있는 반딧불이원은 관람객으로 하여금 자연의 신비로움을 다시 한번 깨닫게 해줍니다.
화담숲은 '생태수목원'이라는 명칭 그대로 자연의 지형과 식생을 최대한 보존하여 만들어졌으며, 계곡과 산기슭을 따라 숲이 이어지고,
산책로는 계단 대신 경사도가 낮은 데크길로 조성되어 있어, 유모차나 휠체어도 관람이 가능합니다.
화담숲의 이동수단인 친환경 모노레일은 노약자도 불편함 없이 숲을 조망할 수 있습니다.
어느 공간, 어느 위치에서도 자연과 사람이 정다운 대화를 나눌 수 있도록 설계된 화담숲만의 매력입니다.
