First, to Dr. Rochette, Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Yu, Sara, the dentistry, surgical and critical care teams at @bbvsh - We sent them two very complicated cases, and they were incredible. 💕
Second, to our beloved #TinyVillage, for making it possible to provide such exceptional medical care to these two special cats, who wouldn't otherwise have a chance to experience freedom from pain.

Tomball is doing well after dental surgery + CT scan yesterday. Once his CT scan is reviewed, we’ll make a plan to remove the polyps from his ears. His mouth and jaw should be much more comfortable now. ❤️🩹
I visited Teacup in the hospital this morning. She'll be staying until this evening to give her a little longer with IV access in case she needs additional meds. Once she comes home, she'll need continued monitoring, careful hand feeding and lots of love.
Dr. R believes Teacup sustained an injury early in life, which caused her mandible to fuse to her skull. Because the bones are fused, there’s no way to separate them to allow Teacup to open her mouth wider. This means any future surgeries will need to be carefully planned, and will unfortunately be risky due to how difficult intubation is.
The good news is that they were able to get her spay AND her dental surgery done, sparing her the risk of a separate spay surgery in the future - whew! She ended up having a full mouth dental extraction, to create additional space inside her mouth for her tongue, eating and breathing. We are also hopeful she will be able to close her mouth once the inflammation goes down. That alone will be a big improvement to her quality of life.

Tomball has met the extremes of humanity; the worst _and_ the best. I'm just so thankful it happened in that particular order. This amazing kitty deserves a stress free, pampered life full of love. I'm on the wrong continent to be able to adopt this adorable boy, so whoever that lucky person will be - please take care of him and love him for me. 💗

It truly takes a very special heart to care for animals, nonetheless, rescue ferals. The chance of rescuing a healthy cat/kitten are very low. They come with a multitude of issues. Sadly, as hard as you try, there will be losses. Over time, it takes it's toll on you. Makes you want to stop. How much hurt, pain, loss can you take? However, the - as long as there are cats/kittens out there that need rescue, treatment, spay/neuter, a loving home, stopping is NOT an option. Even knowing, the next loss could be right around the corner! I speak from experience. I have the utmost respect for all at Tiny Kittens! Am EXTREMELY grateful to all who contribute to keep the rescues going. Whether it be financially. Hitting the like. Sharing the channel. Just a kind word of thanks to all who are hands on with these sweet babies! Feel better soon Tomball and Teacup! My thoughts and prayers for the best recovery possible are with you! 🥰 🙏 ❤ 🐾
I remember several years ago, when one of the ferals had kittens (I think it was Ramona), and first of her kittens were lost (she ended up losing another one I think), and poor Shelly just lost it. It was obvious the pain and stress had been too much for her. My heart broke for her and I ended up in tears as well. It’s just one of the realities of animal rescue. I’m so glad she hasn’t given up and it sounds like she’ll do this as long as she’s able to. Shelly is a true angel ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for your insightful comment. We also rescue feral cats, and it can definitely be a roller coaster. Almost all of ours are special needs, but Teacup's situation is extraordinary. We definitely empathize with TKHQ, and are so grateful for what they are doing. ❤️🐾💕
@@kaymuldoon3575 I couldn't agree more! Shelly, all at Tiny Kittens and all who are invested in the rescues are exceptional! SO many kind, wonderful people here! Animal rescue is something special for sure. You want to save every one but sadly, that's not reality. Losses hit hard for all who get involved. Follow the stories of these sweet furbabies. In retrospect, I am in awe of how many were saved. Now, in loving homes! Cats/kittens whose stories would otherwise be dire!
@@BeeOnASunflower853 ♥ Thank you for all you do for ferals! They get such a bad rap! I get quite the look at times when I talk to some about them. Yes! It is a roller coaster. Tears shed could fill an ocean. It truly amazes me what they do under horrific situations, health wise, other, or both to survive! Teacup and Tomball's stories alone show that. I can't imagine what they went through every day, just to make it one more day. I am just so grateful for people like you! All at Tiny Kittens who open their heart to help! I did so for over 30 years. I foster now. Where I live, there aren't any as where I used to live. I literally live in the middle of a forest. Only bears, deer, lol. Lots of wildlife but no cats! I will always help in any way I can.

I have a cat that recently had a TECA; total ear canal ablation.. This was due to ear polyps. Fortunately my surgeon felt it was unnecessary to do the 2 grand c-scan,...as his reasoning was that he was "going in anyway,..which would give him a perfect clear view." A c-scan adds a crazy amount to the surgery and makes it way out of reach for most animal owners of pets that have troublesome ear polyps.
Recovery went amazingly well. The main fear is damaging nerves when removing an infected ear canal with polyps. My surgeon took almost 3 hours but he did a splendid job. Shout out to Dr. Gaheer at Armstrong Vet in Clovis,CA.
I have a boy with polyps as well. We finally were able to stop the infection and treat the inflammation with steroids and he’s doing well. Time will tell if he’s going to need surgery. Horrible affliction for these guys.

I think they will both end up tearing up their feral cards and end up in nice loving homes. Tomball was real spicy at 1st, but he has chilled out a lot since coming to TinyKittens. I think he is starting to like the comforts of a good life.
I have a big issue with people who shoot at these guys. They are doing it for fun and it disgusts me that there are people out there who do that.

It's sad some veterinarian hasn't come up with a artificial jaw joint like knees, hips etc. since so many kittens, cats are likely kicked in their heads causing these injuries/outcomes.
Only other cause would be a vehicle hit or a freak fall injury.

It’s up to them, really. Teacup seems to enjoy the company of humans. Tomball - it might be that he tolerates humans better while he is in pain, and might get spicier as he gets better. Ultimately, it will be their decision. Either way they will be looked after.

As they said above, the vets did his dental surgery. They also took a scan of his ears, so they can better plan surgery for removing the polyps.

I do not understand- if the bone is fused, why not just cut/saw it, file it down and reshape that area to recreate the jaw area properly?
IDK but there are muscles, ligaments and tendons involved with that. Also the nerve placement for the extent of the damage might be part of the answer.
