Phyllis you went to Castroville, CA just south of SF in the Monterey area. The best fried Artichokes. Marilyn Monroe was the Artichoke queen in 1948. I love your channel!

Phyllis I made this. It was so amazing! I used quartered artichokes so they were one bite and cheaper. The baking time is important to mello the artichokes. Thanks for a GREAT recipe and thanks to the person who submitted it. I froze the leftovers and they were fine when reheated.

OH MY LAND Phyllis!! I have been looking for this recipe since my grandfathers death back in 2001. I was making chicken and rice in the instant pot, and the smell reminded me of that dish. I was thinking just before I saw your video popped up that I wish I still had the recipe. You made my eyes water. Thanks so much to both of you!

Ms Phyllis, I really enjoy your channel, and I’ve enjoyed watching you try new recipes that your viewers submit. So, I thought I’d say hello and submit one myself.
I’m pretty sure I got this from Taste of Home a few years ago. It is one of my go to glazes for pound cake.
    Ingredients:
    3 T unsalted butter
    1/4 c. Chopped pecans
    1 c. Confectioners sugar
    1/4 t. Vanilla extract
    Dash salt
    2-3 T half-and-half
Sauté butter and pecans in saucepan until butter is golden brown (about 5 minutes). Stir into powdered sugar. Add vanilla, salt, and enough cream to drizzle easily. Drizzle over cake and allow to set.
Hope you get a chance to give it a try sometime.

That looks amazing, Mrs. Phyllis! Artichokes are my absolute favorite. I will definitely give this recipe a try. I've been to California on a vacation as a child and saw all the artichokes too. I remember them having barrels and barrels of them in all different sizes you could buy. My dad and I bought some and brought them back to our hotel suite and steamed them in the little kitchen. Thanks for reminding me of a fond memory I haven't thought about in quite sometime.😊

You can't ever have too many Artichokes!!
This looks great and we will have to try it!
Oh, I usually marinade my chicken or steak with straight Lime juice. Just sprinkle it on and rub it in. Let it rest and the meat is ready to cook. No, it doesn't leave any residual flavor.
    Thanks for sharing!!

I do a dish where I throw cut-up chicken tenders and a can each of diced tomatoes, black olives and artichoke hearts in a big skillet with plenty of good olive oil. I live 3 miles from the Artichoke Capital of the World. It was south of S.F. and the name is Castroville. I hope you went further south on Hiway One and were able to see Big Sur. I was born and raised in this paradise. My father and his partner raised sugar beets in Carmel Valley during the War. Also my Dad sold squab (baby pigeons) to the Navy who were at the old DEl Monte Hotel..Yes, my roots are deep here. I am going to cook this as I grew up eating fresh artichokes. They Love the foggy weather of the coastal area. Can you get fresh artichokes in your area? I think they ship worldwide, but I don't know for sure. I think Ocean Mist even ships frozen deep fried chokes. Thank you to Margie Blair for sharing this and to you for cooking it for us to see.

My mother loves artichokes! Artichokes are north, in Castroville. Interesting factoid: Marilyn Monroe was Artichoke Queen once in her pre-Hollywood days. There's a little Mexican place in Los Banos that makes artichoke enchiladas. My mother will make us drive 3 hours when she gets a craving for those! Sorry I don't have the recipe but I'll bet you can invent one!

Phyllis my first thing I do every morning is to check for new videos from you. I am still working my way through your play list, this one is going to be one of my favorites. Thanks to Margie Blair for sharing it. I am sure my hubby won't like it he is so picky he don't like rice or pasta of any king but I can make it for my friend I ma making meals for and for me I love that it will freeze since I am making her freezer meals I have many of those plastic dishes tv dinners come in my son eats them and saves the empty containers for me I just fix them and cover with a foil sheet and mark on top with a marker and freeze she can take them out and pop in the toaster oven and If it si somethign that will microwave I first cover with saran wrap and then foil she can remove foil and leave plastic wrap and microwave.
I bought 3 jars of artichoke hearts last week at Aldi and had no idea what dish to make with them this will be perfect, Also I buy my chicken thighs at Aldi about once a month they have chicken thighs on the Wednesday meat deal for .79 a pound, ours here is very tender and I find their meat is very good. I do use chicken thighs for my home canned dog food and I usually buy about 8 packages when they are on sale sometimes I de-bone them and remove skin and some I don't. I vacuum seal and they are good until I need them.
I love your recipes and wonder if you ever thought of writing a cook book and including all the recipes you have videos for. I for one would buy one of your cook books!!!
I love that you share your stories I am 64 and can relate to so many of them.

Ms. Phyllis, my mother made this for me when I was a little girl, in the 1970's. It's good! And very simple. Here's the recipe:
Hash Pinwheels with Spunky Cheese Sauce
    2 cups Bisquick
    1/2 cup cold water
    2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
    15 oz. can corned beef
    Cheese sauce:
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons Bisquick
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. Coleman's dry mustard
    1 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Combine Bisquick, water, and shortening. Knead a few times until smooth. Roll out to 12 x 9" rectangle. Spread hash over dough to within 1/2" of edge. Roll up like a jelly roll and cut into 9 slices (1" slices).
Place into a greased dish and bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 min., or until golden brown. Top with cheese sauce and serve with green beans.
Cheese sauce: Melt butter, add Bisquick and cook, stirring, for about 1 min. Add mustard, salt and milk, whisking until smooth and bubbly. Stir in shredded cheese to melt.

We call this Jerusalem Chicken out here in California, and it's one of my favorites too. One question I have is when you freeze your meals for later how do you do it so it doesn't get frosty or freezer burn, I seem to have that issue.

Lots of viewers have ask me about freezer burn. I never get freezer burn on anything, I'm not sure why but I'll guess at it. We have a fairly quick turn over of the food, I think the longest I have ever kept anything in the freezer was some Fruit cake slices from a cake I made in December. We had the last two pieces in June of the following year. One other thing might be that my freezer is the type that has to
be defrosted so it does not have a fan circulating the air. I defrost the freezer several times per year so this could be another factor since anything that is getting old I'll be aware of it at that time.

I will have to look for the canned artichokes next time. I usually purchase jar ones. This recipe looks delicious. Have you ever cooked a fresh artichoke? I'd love to find out how to cook a fresh artichoke. Thanks again for inviting us into your kitchen. 💗Tamson

Looks really good!! You could always use white wine instead of the chicken stock.

Hi - I love artichokes too and that recipe looks delish! BTW that’s the only chicken I buy, never dry and no hormones fed to the birds.

This looks so good. I watched 3 of your videos yesterday and copied all of them to make later. I have a recipe you might like that is from an old "Spry" (shortening) cookbook. My Mom made this a lot during Lent when I was a child. It is so easy and surprisingly delicious.Mardi Gras Tuna (don't ask me why it is named that)3T.flourSalt and pepper1/4 cup butter1 large can evaporated milk1 1/2 cups grated cheddar2 T. parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon parsleypaprika1 1/3 cups water1 1/3 cups instant rice1 7 oz. can tuna, drainedMelt butter in saucepan and add flour, salt, and pepper. After a minute or two add milk and stir 'til thickened. Add cheese and remove from heat. It will be thick. Place uncooked rice mixed with parsley in a casserole dish (8 or 9 inch is fine). Add water and stir. Sprinkle tuna over top of rice and carefully cover with cheese sauce. Sprinkle with paprika and bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Delicious!Susan W. from Kansas City

+whyme7400 The reason it is called Mardi GrasTuna is because Mardi Gras is on Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent signified by Ash Wednesday. It is a GINORMOUS, fun, splashy and noisy street party in the French Quarter of New Orleans that goes on 'til the sun comes up on Wednesday, the 1st day of Lent which is why your dear, wonderful Mom made this for you during the Lenten season. Some parts of Mardi Gras was considered raunchy due to girls getting long bead necklaces tossed to them usually from porches high above but certainly not limited to arial viewing for lifting their shirts and showing their bare breasts and the more beads a girl was wearing, well... ooh and lots of drinking & other stuff. Up until early 70's, Catholic Churches not only forbade meat on Fridays during Lent but were teaching the avoidance of pleasure eating of rich foods, as well as each and every family member had to give up one pleasurable experience, be it an activity, food, drink, etc. Be Lean so hence Fat Tuesday. Sorry for long- winded experience but I was drawing from my childhood experiences and teachings from my Catholic School and Church.

This looks wonderful! I want to try it asap! However, I live under a rock and need a tutorial on how to choose and slice mushrooms. Yours look beautiful! I am so tired of so much waste from tossing out mushrooms that are black under the caps. I can't avoid that, really, because they come already packaged. So, I would love to learn how to prep the salvageable parts. I decided to settle for jarred mushrooms years ago but, fresh is always best. By the way, the fresh ones I have purchased were always within best buy date so...
Hi to Mr. Bucky and your fur babies. 💕
P.S. I don't wash them. I just wipe them with a paper towel.

I would be tempted to poke my finger through the plastic wrap and pulling one out to check it.
If it were black as you described I would ask the produce manager if he could provide fresh
mushrooms. I have purchased them when they felt slimy when I opened them at home
so I know what you are talking about, every time you purchase it's a gamble.

Hi Phyllis, you use Sherry in other recipes, try pale dry sherry in the wine section , you will notice the difference. ❤️ from Ursula.
