I'd love to buy an Ami here in the UK. I've got an ebike currently but it's not much fun in the rain and lacks a second seat for my partner. The biggest competitor is really a second hand nissan leaf but then you've got old car troubles and higher insurance prices.
Thats brilliant! As soon as I saw videos appearing of the AMI on RUclips I thought YES! I must have one as a second car for around town use. I was going to register my interest to buy one from Citroen until I saw the charge cable in the passenger doorwell. But I dont have a garage, only a driveway so in the end, I decided I could not have one. Now I see you can charge the AMI on my driveway with the door shut and with nothing more than an outdoor waterproof 13 amp socket. BRILLIANT!
I can see myself using these in the future in France - especially if they were to operate car-share in my area - but what I REALLY wanted was for Citroen to release an electric 2CV - the only car I ever enjoyed driving - for hauling stuff on bumpy roads - especially if I could tow a sailing dinghy with it... In terms of owning an EV, as a low-mileage user, I would want to be able to use it as a battery for solar panels.
I heard your suggestion for a few more air vents and immediately thought "...yep. Small change, big impact". The only thing they also should change is to replace the plug and change the BMS a bit so you can charge it on a 11 kW wallbox. That would make it possible to load the 6 KW battery in about 40 minutes ( no problem with a lithium ion battery), and that would be quite a feature for a city vehicle which is supposed to be rented out via carsharing.
Usually having 11kW AC support is an expensive option and in a car this cheap I'd be surprised if it made economic sense. Perhaps 7kW, but 11kW is three-phase power so much more problematic.
People keep critiquing this as a "car" and that's not what it's intended to be. People need to think of it as a scooter fitted with a body and two side by side seats. If Citroen did upgrade it with many of the suggested upgrades, it would become a "car".. which needs a regular driver's license and insurance and all that.. which would defeat the purpose it was built for to begin with. Like someone said.. this is not a downgrade from a car, but rather an upgrade from a scooter.. which - in France - 14 year olds can drive. I wish we could have similar vehicles here in Egypt. I would feel much better if my daughter could have something like this to go to college in instead of the dreadful public transportation.. or using Uber. 🙂
Great video! Just found your channel, subscribed already, I'm in. About this renting an Ami for 30 Euros a month -- you know how they say if something sounds too good to be true, it might be because it's not true? I read somewhere that the the deal is, you pay a couple thousand Euroes, and THEN it's 30 Euros. I don't know if that's right either -- but it sounds a lot more true, you know what I mean?

brilliant review you did a honest review and focused on the safety of this car which is very important..i totally agree with that many windows they need a better designed way to clear the mist from the windscreen,in warmer countries such as spain ,south of france this wont be needed but in the uk were its raining and cooler to have a demist feature is a must have. i dont think itd be that bad if they added more safety features and charged a little bit more i think £7000 would be a more realistic price if the added antimist and a little more power in the engine ..in fact as long as its under £8000 and it could do 40-50mph id still be intrested in it but as it is its very very limiting in the uk ..but i still like its design :)
You are not the first person to suggest that they need to make a faster version, however that would take it out of the quadricycle classification to being classed as a car, which means it has to have anti lock brakes, air bags, crumple zones, autonomous braking, etc. etc. and it could not pass a crash test, so appreciate it for what it is and either take it or leave it. However I do agree that the demisting needs to be upgraded. The last time I saw a car that bad was a 1971 VW Beetle, where you had to have a towel to wipe the windows in the rain. Very hazardous.
This is a very interesting car. Why did citroen use a sticker for their badge on the front with fake highlights / shadows rather than an actual badge? Also needs steering wheel controls.
It's on the list. We've been targeting new releases mostly but will get back to older models soon. Assuming we can test drive cars during the pandemic. We're in the UK...
I love it. Hope they will solve the problem with the doors that don't close... The good: looks cute The bad: hard just like the twizy, no A/C (ther g-wiz has it), motor and battery are too small. I doubt it does 110 watt per kilometers... may be 140 watt that is 40km range (with lights off and gentle acceleration)
They could have added a few better designs like removable battery pack everyone living with no off road parking and flat dwellers will find that a problem I suppose you could stick a generator on it but that would be ridiculous there is no fast charging so if you park it at a supermarket you would get a fine for overstaying the parking time it can only reach 28mph so on a 40mph road that would be a problem the windows don't wind down so good luck in a drive through or car park and if I remember insurance is more expensive on a left hand drive car there are better faster more capable and cheaper cars coming onto the market soon maybe just as flimsy but with all that wipe clean plastic it wouldn't look like a portaloo on wheels
The removable battery pack isn't really necessary. Think of this more like a four-wheel ebike that seats two and can carry some cargo. It's not really a car at all, it just looks a bit like one.
@@WhichEV her in the UK a company called Zip Charge has just started production of a battery pack on wheels especially for changing EV they say it will give you 20-40 miles of charge designed for people who live in apartments with no off road parking and can be recharged with off peak electricity you would have to secure it to stop it being stollen but it better trailing a lead
I love this. But I have a friend in France kindly sent me the price. Top spec Citroën ami 4.300.28 euros so no im not paying 6.000 pounds. Also I'd want to see out of the windows I just hope the driver in the London bus see's me 😱
The designers should listen to the people before they create something. I see a missed opportunity here. Not practical car could be better in every way.
This vehicle looks interesting, but as designed, it's pretty much a useless turd. It needs a rear view mirror, a better defroster vent to keep the windshield and side windows clear. The charging cable is in a very inconvenient place. The plastic body probably won't hold up over the long haul as intense sun degrades plastic very quickly. And if there were ever a hail storm, the sunroof would be gone! And finally, its top end speed is far too slow! It would be an impediment to even the slower moving traffic here in the States. If this came to the U.S., there would have to be upgrades such as the ones I've described, and a second windshield wiper is a must. As for price, $6,000 dollars would be acceptable with the upgrades. Otherwise, no! I can't see it selling very well. And the young lady is far cuter than the car!! Cheers!!

The Ami is a matter of taste. It's very cheaply made - not in a bad way, but they've economised on how it's produced eg steel frame with plastic panels that are the same at both ends. Some people think it looks really cool, though.
I glad somebody does a review thinking of this as a cheap and conveniant transport, not a car.
A true revolution in my eyes.
Well, technically, it's not a car!
You are right to say that this is a better way to get around rather than with a scooter, in any weather.
Thanks!

It really depends what you need. The Ami has really been pitched as a step up from an ebike more than a step down from a car.

Yes. I really hope we see more innovative mobility solutions like this. The future of mobility is not "one size fits all".
The final design for the UK has a Type 2 charger built in, so you can just charge it up for free in your nearest Tesco's :D

Does seem weird they designed the hinges to be on one side of the door only. I mean even fridges allow you to choose how a door swings open.
It means the car is made of fewer different parts. The front is the same as the back, only with a different light cluster.
