When will the city planning departments in NY Philadelphia etc realise that when they demolish iconic skate spots like the Banks, Love etc, they are erasing cultural history.
very true
@àsper Equally true
@Bobbie Tuggboat swing and a miss buddy. That has no place here. The south lost a long time ago - if you're thinking on their wavelength then you should go. Look at who's in this video and ask yourself if you actually respect them or if you think they should be in cuffs somewhere. We won't be waiting for your answer don't worry.
Bobbie Tuggboat dude. Shut up. Quit acting tough because most people in the skate community are passive weenies. At the end of the day you’re just as much a weenie. Acting tough in a room full of 12 years old. Yikes.
yeah!
I skated Brooklyn Banks from 97-04. Use to skate with Rodney Torres. Me and my friend Ryan put the metal ledges on Seaport and that became the biggest spot down off Water St. I still skate all the time but I moved to SF in 05. Best decision ever.
so you are the legend who put on the angle irons?
You sir are a legend because we got to see a lot of classic lines from wenning,Pops and the Kalis Fakie flip line.
Yeah, my friend Ryan from Brooklyn and I nailed two eight foot angle irons on. It actually worked really well because the ledges are solid wood. My friend Ryan owns a skatepark in Raleigh North Carolina. I tried to start a board company called Anti Virus. I still skate as much as possible and I’m 41 now
fuckin legend
I used to skate down there also in them days . Who was your friend Ryan ? Hickey ? I used to skate in the LES . I hung around mostly with Justin Pierce n Hamilton Harris back in the day Harold H and LOKEY .
We prolly bumped heads a time Or 2.
Anyway hope alls well with you and your people bro. Peace. Mike
RIP to the dope ass handrails that used to be there. I remember skating them when I was a kid 20yrs ago

RIP Harold Hunter!!! One of the greats!!!
Quims nollie varial is a thing of beauty!
Great Lakes tour in St. Louis. Met quite John cardiel Dustin dollin. 1998. It was a deluxe tour.they had two wedges and set a box up on its side he hung up on the first wedge went shoulder fist in two the second wedge. I had not been skating long. I barrel led into a 50-50 and ate shit. And i swear john cardiel lent me hand to help me up... i swear 1998 deluxe Great Lake tour
shove it
Shooty McStabbyface it’s a nollie Varial flip
You weren't lying
FoReal! Him and his bro total style perfection
Im old remember going down there in early 80s seeing Vallely before he was pro meeting Steve Olsen , Dave Hackett going there in the 90s to the raves they had thier tripping and skating place got a lot of memories for me
Sounds like a fuckin blast.
I skated there few times back in my teen years. One thing you have to remember is that skating there was brutal, environment wise. Alot, I mean aaaalot of cracks, uneven bricks everywhere & wacky surfaces, lot of merchandise trucks & traffic, without mentioning the intimidating aura of the locals. Kinda the SF Embarcadero of the East Coast. Unique spot, no doubt.
I always see this place and think the brick floor looks really unfriendly to skateboard wheels. Theres a place where I live in Middlesbrough England called MIMA where a lot of skaters hang out. It has a very similar floor layout and your wheel can get hung up easy as fuck man
This was really beautiful! The editing, the soundtrack, so old school NYC. It was mostly newer, though. I was out there from like '87 to '92. I remember Eli Gessner back when he was in high school, when Zoo York was just a tag. Jeff Pang was my idol! Huff was my man. Kid had pop way back then! (He used to practice riding down in elevators. Had me scared to death!) Of course, Harold was always crazy. R.I.P. He was down with that Skate N.Y.C. crew from the Lower East. All those Dominicans from the movie, "Kids." I was cool with all of them. Every Saturday at the Banks from 8 a.m. Then, by mid-afternoon, head toward the fullpipe and the banks, benches and wooden curbs at the Seaport, the red brick banks, the Hudson waterfront, everything! Home by like 7 or 8.Every week! Those were the days. Soho Skates before they moved to Varick. Shut boards when they only had one color! Speaking of which, what about Coco, Felix, Mike Kepper, Barker, Bruno or Rodney? (I remember seeing Rodney bust a kingpin slappying the planters (the really tall ones!) at the banks. It is still the most hardcore thing I have ever seen!) I will say, though, you had Peter Hyunh: that's a name I hadn't thought off in 30 years! He was the man when we were kids! He used to judge all the Banks' ESA contests I used to enter. Yo! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! One love.
That's awesome that you got to experience all that. Shit sounds sick, wish I was born then to live it
I had a 411 vhs with a Brooklyn banks section..I'm so old 😭
It’d be sick if this became a series with other spots that have been torn down
I would love to see that
Doubt it, all that footy was filmed by R.B. Maybe Strobeck can do the same with Love Park, but that dude only works for Supreme type of paychecks.
So good had to watch it 3 times..i miss these days
Yo that's crazy... I skated with some of those dudes... those are my boys... I remembered going out to the banks, that spot was definitely the shit. Thanks for shsring... 👍😆
Thrasher Intros gets Better Everytime¥
yo facts
Quim, Keenan, Stevie, so many OG's. Legendary spot. Endless bangers.
Already rewatching.
Fuckin' love this! That opener, the dress styles and the shoe styles through out the years, Kalis with the 3/4 pants, Muska with the massive headphones, the insane amount of creativity that went down. Always great to see some Keenan footage, RIP. And nice touch having his homie Huf's footage next to his. I have never been to the banks, but I recall it from countless magazine and video appearances back in the day, and when I think of street skating this is the spot that I always visualize. Thank you for this amazing history lesson.
So cool seeing some old footage and remembering those names I used to see back in the day
i always said that quims nollie varial flip was the dopest that ever went down at the banks... ever since cinematographer... respect...
7:01 Quim Cardona button. Good to see you saved the BEST for last!!!! RIP Micheal Cardona and Keenan Milton.
I was thinking the same thing. Quim is one of my all-time favorites.
I knew he would be the closer. Was my favorite for years.
King of the banks
As an out of shape skater that's recently found refuge in skater XL, I wouldn't be surprised if Session has brought a new generation of Brooklyn Banks enthusiasts to the consumer demand lines, and for that I am grateful. This is the heaviest OG street rejuvenation vid I've caught in a looong time. Give thanks!!!
got the pleasure to check out the banks in december 1995 while on a family vacation. That same trip I got to skate Pulaski and some other east coast spots. such a great trip!
Reppin’ the Banks my high school days circa ‘93-‘96 🤘
One better: Back in those days Harold Hunter and crew would frequent the banks. I believe it was sometime in ‘94 a producer of the movie Kids rolled up to the banks and asked me and a few friends if we wanted to be extras in the movie’s skate scene(s). Turned out they used us for the club scene instead. Filmed at The Tunnel club. Everyone got all they could eat pizza and a $10 bill for a few hours of filming. BX Banx shit. 🤘
Like a trip down memory lane, I remember all these guys from the 90s. Good clips
Man I love Classic Skateboarding!
Rest In Peace Harold Hunter 🙏🏽
I was there at 5:56-6:07 I'm 33 now and I was probably 14 back then, Muska and Dill put on a show, Spencer Fujimoto and Scott Johnson were also there that day with them, definitely one of my most memorable days as a kid when I'd go to skate the banks
Sooooo many skaters I grew up watching are in this video, love it!!!
First song is *Scientifik - Jungles Of Da East* Second song is *Scientifik - Law-town*
Thank you
Scietifik is from my home town crazy u guys got this track

Oh hell yeah. This was my favourite feature in the last mag. Love the tiny wheels.
My new favorite video part
This was a time machine muchas gracias. . .
Yoo wtf they made that spot from session into a real place. Sick!
lmao!
serious..
Such an amazing time. Seeing that smooth Kalis style in the Lynx will never get old.
Thank you for the time traveling!!
Pretty cool seeing some Keith Hufnagel footage but it's a shame there's so little Stevie Williams.
No brian wenning switch tre either :/
Yo man dude homie

ah! The baggy pants, massive shoes and the street lines with House of Pain playing on the track! Miss those days when was no money and big contests on the scene. (not as much as today)
I love this spot
Brooklyn banks was a true classic
I'm so grateful for the soundtrack
you know what the first song is bro?

Named my daughter after this place Brooklyn Rain. Thanks for retrospective !
90s man.....take me back pleaseeeee
Somethin' about hearing the sound of skating on top of brick right before an ill trick gets popped and then hearing the brick sound again after the landing!
All the Brooklyn banks videos 🔥
All these great skaters come with their own styles and creativity to the SPOT! Love these videos, respect.
HOW COULD THEY TEAR THIS DOWN
Damn
I always wanted to see lines like those at small banks, thanks RB
I feel like the banks are a lot gnarlier in person
They are/were.....just like most spots.
Slippery actually
Awesome one that skated then in the late 80s to mid 90s, trust me, they were raw!!!
A lot of great Trilogy and Zoo York Mixtape footage. I always liked Maurice Key's Brooklyn Banks footage. Javier's switch flip over the wall was so smooth. Ben Liversedge ripped. And an unseen Lennie Kirk clip! Amazing edit.
First skate video I ever seen my older brother gave me ZooYork MixTape vhs haha was 20 years ago , blew my mind and I had to learn how to ollie rubbish bins, love that era !
Beautiful.
Best video on Thrasher in years...
Love this spot, my dream is skate Brooklyn Banks...dope video!
So good! Rewatch due
Gonna miss the sounds of the bank, Session skate simulator has a pretty accurate replica to check out
Man that place looks so fuckin fun, no wonder it’s been liked so much
This is the best video I've seen in forever, east coast skating will always be better! I live in Milwaukee so the spots are all fucked up like out there and I wouldn't have it any other way. If the spot was still there the skating wouldn't look any different, Completely timeless.
I remember quite a bit of this footy in the TW cinematographer vid dopeskiiii
This is beautiful
I haven't seen some of those names in so long. This got me stoked!
pls more of this series
Just what i needed.
I remember skating with RB and Anthony Correa as a kid at the skatepark of Houston. Good dudes, and this rewind on the banks is just filthy sick and I love it. 🔥🔥🔥
Man! My jams and gear all thru this so many influential dudes to my skating! Great edit RB!
Almost thought y'all was gonna leave Quim out but you left him for the ender... BOSS MOVE!!!
Looks like so much fun I would love to skate there
I've always wanted to see all of this put together, thank you so much
some of the best days of my life
the golden era of skating
Thank you
I miss this era
I always miss Quim's opener on 411vm on those edits. But maybe it wasn't filmed by you. Memory lane indeed, RB! Texan making it in BKNY just like DJ Premier. Salute!
SO rad!! Thanks, RB!! Booyakasha!! Memories....
Ah man, this is great
Nice RB! lots of clips ive never seen
Hell yeah man bring back memories I was there in 99
I met Lucero and Grigley there back in 89.blew my mind..that place is historic
Best video of 2020 by far
What a spot. Ledges, banks, stairs, handrails, city grime. A skaters paradise
Every time the chorus says 5-0, there's someone doing a 5-0. I see you editor man. Very clever
skating was so raw . Thx Thrasher
And as another historic iconic world famous skate spot vanishes i can only wish i got the chance to skate it once . And big respect to anyone who broke in to get a brick or two . Don't lose them . R.I.P the Banks
Damn where is the gonz...or mike v?...still a dope video though
The brooklyn banks mecha skateboards scene
Thrasher magazine legends place give a required
wow, harold hunter. I knew this felt like a video they'd watch in Kids
Was hoping to see the Jake Johnson fakie heel off the set but a fantastic compilation/look back!
His Mindfield part is a masterpiece.
@@asokahanderson122 Absolutely! I rewatch his part often and Mindfield almost as often. Something about that part just makes me come back to it!
Kevin Ryan The song, the innovative tricks, the editing, and even the song just make it so iconic
The only time I ever got a chance to skate the Banks, I came to two conclusions: 1. You need even bigger wheels than you think because the ground is just rough af. 2. Those vert blocks are way, way bigger than they appear on videos, and the guys who were doing stuff on top of them were gnarly as hell!
Haaa so true man man. Most rocked big Spitfire 55 mics and as hard as possible .97 or 8 If my memory serves.
But yea everything from the locals ,crackheads n hookers to the handrails , banks was bigger harder and more dangerous .. it was an intimidating place to come to if you wasn’t from there. A lot of boards got got back then .
The Place was a shark pool if you couldn’t hold yourself down or didn’t have enough people with you ,you was gettin sized up. even if you knew it or not it was happening .
Not glorifying , just tellin it like it was.
Damn can feel that atmosphere as i was starting skating back these days.... HipHop, Baggy clothes, Skate and freedom.... Yeah gold '00's times....
“Even if they hit 5-0” at 5:30 and 6:20 is perfect editing
Best video on Thrasher ever!
some guys i saw from costco recommend me this and now im sad i’ll probably never see him again😔👁👄👁
this is the cream and cream of American skateboarding .... broklin banks are the mecca of 90's skateboarding
Absolute golden era of skating wen non park skaters ruled, baggy pants n big shoes n skate anything mentality. Love it.
Sick vid! Loved it! Got brought here from Session's Historic Challenges in The Banks, absolutely worth it! Recognized a hand full of Names, fantastic footage. Some folks have mentioned Session, give it a play everybody, the Historic Challenges try to pay homage to as many of these legends as they can! its sweet!
Nostalgic Video 👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥🔥
I knew, just fucking knew, my main man Kalis would be coming through HARD!!!

Used to get off the train at city hall, and go to the brooklyn banks, after that go skate the buildings on water street, then go to the south street seaport, almost everyday
