I used this Segway for a few months of door-to-door sales and it was great for that aspect! Cruising around with it otherwise was not ideal. The top speed of 12 mph was very limiting as you can see in this video and there was nothing I could do to change it.

You can go into settings and change it to sport mode it'll go a bit faster maximum speed is like 19 km per hour or maybe 18 and you can change the beeping noise I have one on my channel I reviewed but I have the handlebar makes it 10 times better

The beep is detrimental. Especially when trying to pass people. You subconsciously speed up when moving passed other people and it beeps so loudly. It’s pretty obnoxious.

I guess you can't deal well with speed limit... can you ? LOL

One thing some people may not understand is the physics problem the scooter, or any similar device, is up against as far as dealing with top speed. The scooter needs to reserve some margin of top speed to dedicate to keeping you balanced - otherwise when you hit top speed and then leaned a little forward you would splatter forward onto the ground - no acceleration would be available to speed up the scooter to keep you balanced. Yes, they could play around slightly with how it kicked in and the sounds made, etc, but it’s mostly a fundamental limit. The beeping warns you that the unit is going to slow you down to avoid exceeding the design limit; may be annoying but does perhaps prevent being startled and crashing. The only general speed solution I can think of is to have a more powerful, more expensive, heavier unit that has a higher top speed. The same general issues would be in effect but would occur at a higher speed. Of course then the injury potential would also go up but you accept that if you want higher speeds. My main point is that I don’t think there is some simple tweak to ‘fix’ the top speed issues that some people may assume is a screwed up design oversight. Yes, they could build a bigger, faster, more expensive unit but that is not a tweak - it’s a different product (and appears to be what you really want).

Thank you for your insightful comment! You're absolutely right, there are certain physics challenges when it comes to balancing on scooters like the Segway Ninebot S-Plus. It's important to understand these limitations and the trade-offs between speed and stability. However, if you're looking for a different product that offers reliable power backup and outdoor versatility, I highly recommend checking out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It has a massive capacity, fast recharging, waterproof technology, and comprehensive protections. It's a great option for outdoor enthusiasts who value quality and reliable power.

@@ARLGD You're pitching a battery, which has nothing to do with this.

It slows you down so you dont overpower the electronics. It's self balancing so if that kick back feature wasn't there it cuts off and you faceplant. I ride electric unicycles. They suffer from the same thing only if you want to go faster, upwards of 60MPH, you buy a more capable machine.

I had to realize and accept what my S-Plus was before I could enjoy it. It has a top speed, period. Once I accepted that, and adapted to it, I enjoy my Segway. Do I wish it went 28 mph like a typical scooter? Yes! But it doesn't. I like to go out at night for a 20 minute ride on a river trail. It's relaxing and a whacky way to travel. No regrets, but it took a while. Also, I have to mention that you'll get good quickly. It's very easy to go from beginner to advanced in just a couple of rides.
