I personally have no experience on DJing, nor do i intend to ever DJ. What these videos do for me, is allow me to appreciate the artistry behind the decks more, and understand why some of my favourite DJs sound so much better than others. Thanks a ton for this very basic look!
Thats rigth is an art, if you want to learn Check this vidéo but before to do this i will recomend to you to hear your tracks one by one and Check thé Time, speed and beat of the track i Don’t think this is a tutorial for bergginers, and enjoy it this is the secret
Google Dj Craze. You’re welcome.
yes
Djing is fun. Even if you dont wanna be a dj i would recomment getting a cheap controller to just mess around with. The control you get over the music is amazing and well i got addicted to it
Instablaster.
I don’t know about Garth but I love the way you’re teaching. It’s truly step by step and I seriously enjoy it the way you’re doing it. Please continue.
Who waiting for alison wonderland music production lesson?
They ain't coming cause she don't produce her own songs.
@@Anonymous-gh6xf was gonna say ull be waiting a while LOL
@@Anonymous-gh6xf soooo who does then? And how do you know? I'd hope u have evidence on that comment lol
@nick Gher do u got evidence on that? That she does it that way lmao yall are quick to talk on a female producer till someone asks for evidence. 2 I didnt ask for anything besides evidence. Idiot. Lmao I'll wait for evidence
@nick Gher I'm a producer myself 💀💀💀 i never dismissed the idea of her not producing her own shit i just asked where, and once again, THE EVIDENCE IS AT. It's a good observation though. I dont think she doesn't produce her stuff. I think she has help with it, cuz her stories r mostly on djing controllers n such. So it would make sense. Though I'd like to hear alex say that tho good observation tho
LMFAOOOO xD rewatching I love how she disassociates when he tells her she doesn't need to explain that stuff
Ol time dj, prolly b4 you were born. I started right after I witness Steve Dahl destroying disco records the night I was working at the stadium 🏟 😐. Did Chicago radio, clubs, yaht parties, military, etc... stop after my litt'l brother won the DMC. Now, I'm training my 15 yr old son. These tutorials are excellent starts. Back in my day we had very few girl DJs. Now, I see many excellent females tearing up the scene. Keep up the gr8 work. Appreciate you.
Iv had a dj bug since 1999 and I've finally have went ahead and ordered, my first gear. Watching this was just perfect to get basics. Can't wait actually. I think I could be a legend, I feel it in my bones. This here is the first step for me right now. One step at time.
So I bought numark platinum and just trying to find time to learn and play, so far so cool, loving it! Learning tons from youtube.
It’s been a year, how goes your dj journey?
Ya how's it going
I wanna know the update too! I'm in the same boat 😊
@@pineapplegirl8078 brother gave up
This is great tutorial, I would suggest learning to beat match by ear. There are times where the BPM on the Mp3 is wrong, or the display doesn't work. You should always know how to beat match by ear in case these things happen.
Absolutely agree.
100% when I learned how to do this, it _had_ to be by ear. There was no BPM indicator...
What is a strategy to beat match by ear? Is it just a case of getting it right in the headphones by nudging them until they line up. Is there some form of formula/algorithm to follow?
LOVE thank you! I just got to this stage after 6 months of trying way too hard to make long mix sets. Just back and forth is SO much fun and you really feel the tracks so much more, what's possible, how to mix in and out as you said - vocals, strings, whatever's there becomes your toolkit. I also love Garth. More Garth please.
I'm a producer but I want to up my game and have always wanted to learn how to DJ but I barely know any in person. So thank you Alison for making this series. After watching Garth I don't think I can ever get that good! lol
Alison, keep your great vibe Up! You are a awesome Human and Artist! I am already Djing , but i will watch and learn from you!
Good luck bestie😻💓
she is Amazing 😇
I will never be a DJ but I'm in awe watching you and hearing an explanation of how everything works! Amazing!
INCREDIBLY helpful! I can't believe you're doing this for free! Thank you! Much love to you and your crew!
cannot thank you enough for making these vids, they’re so enjoyable !! also love garth, he’s absolutely hilarious ✨
I’m going to be completely honest I have seen a lot of tutorials on djing and every single one I always got lost but I have watched the first two tutorials you made and I’m actually making sense of it
I’m with several of the other fans that have commented here, what I appreciate most about this is Alison just shows us how much of a down to earth person she is and I love her for that! ❤
She gets it - we are more than willing to pay for our entertainment from professional entertainers, we just don’t need to be made to feel like we’re “less than” those who entertain.
Also, nice job to Garth, he f’n killed it!
I first heard you at voodoo fest a few years ago and it brought me joy. I heard a few songs here and there and felt the same. When covid happened and you did virtual DJ, I really needed that. And now, you've reignited my wanting to try to DJ myself. Thank you. 💙
Back when I first started learning to mix on 1200s I bought 6 records, and I bought doubles. Then I practiced my timing and learning how to control pitch and my pressure on the plate so that I could get the two to play in sync. It was murder to my ears at first but it really helped me grasp some basics on beat matching. The new CDJs and things make this a lil easier with the digital beat counters, but I still prefer the 1200s with a basic mixer. I think playing two exact tracks makes this a lot easier. I am no pro, but back in the day the ragers I threw I kept the party jumping till 6am with only a few train wrecks after way too much MDMA. Good times!!
She's back!!!
And I hope to see more video content from her.
just started djing and saw that you were doing this how-to guides and immediately clicked! loved the collaborative flow with both you and Garth, I felt like I was learning a lot really quickly when he took the songs out of time and you fixed it quickly. that was such a really cool LIVE example. these videos are awesome!
How are you learning to dj?
@@angel-uz3fc a lot of trial and error mixed in with tips and tricks from one of my buddies who’s been DJing for 4+ years
Garth you are Genius...
I WISH YOU DID MORE OF THESE 😭😭 so useful!!
If ppl were dissing the knob twiddling in your Mixmag set, then their brains would melt watching a Daedelus set. The track selection for that LA set was a refreshing and eclectic bag:- Bill Withers and Massive Attack had my spine tingling.
Neat tutorial! Could you also specify the tracks’ name? Would love to exercise using the same ones
i'd really love to see and learn more..you're very good Alison
I remember watching you on that LA show that you did like 8 or 9 years ago. I am just amazed by what you can do with a couple of decks and a mixer. You're amazing girl, and don't ever let anyone tell you differently.
I really learned how much can be done with just two tracks, repetition, back and forth between the two, and also how useful the EQing is.
So the fundamentals, just focusing on beat matching by ear, nudging the last fraction of a bar if out, cue'ing, EQing.
I know this comment is more of a short novel. but 3 months ago I was watching some interviews of yours and one of them really just touched me with what you said. so I felt compelled to write a comment, I'm not sure if you've seen yet if at all. so I figured I'd copy and paste it to your latest video in hope that you'll get to see it with your own eyes.
Alex, I don't know if you'll ever personally read this. if you do, then just know that your energy is heard, your vibes are felt. through every fade out and every frequency drop. you're an amazing person and an incredibly beautiful voice. when I heard your acoustic version of "peace" I had literal chills up my spine and tears in my eyes, such power in your voice and raw passion in your words throughout countless tracks. so relieved to hear you've found your "balance point" so don't stop seeking whatever helps you achieve that balance, in new fun and exciting chapters of life. a famous Bmx rider once said in a feature video "life isn't about the cards you've been dealt, it's how you use those cards and where you choose to focus your life". seems to me like you've been dealt a couple of shit cards over the years. but strength, determination and tenacity kept you here and alive, fighting for a better you and a brighter future. so a big shout out to you Alex. the beautiful and amazingly talented "Alison wonderland" you're a true gift to this world. some people will walk this earth for their entire existence and not know purpose or meaning, to not have their "mark" left on this world, which is a true shame. but you. you have found this greater existence a reason a purpose and for that I envy you greatly. to the fans who simply hear a dope track with some cool vocals and trippy sounds, that's dope as fuck, let them jump around and go nuts on the D-floor, but for the people in the struggle who interpret your music on a "spiritual level" just know that we hear you Loud and clear. I've seen you live at GTM and the set you played aloud me to move my body in ways I've never felt before (dance) your beats and vibes carried me all through the night and for that brief moment, you brought me to my balance point between content and chaos for that I thank you. Alex you're a star, your music is amazing, I'd love to meet you in person someday and talk about your writing and production methods. you seem like an incredible person with great story to tell. but for now I'll leave you with ... We love you Alison Wonderland!!!! keep writing, keep fighting and don't EVER let the bad shit break you. keep the positive vibes flowing through you as they do so well #You'reNotAlone.
It's like you heard my quarantine prayers! Please post more of these, SO helpful and also awesome watching another female teach
These are the tutorials I've been looking for! I love how fun and non-condescending the instruction is. I've been trying to find instruction that doesn't fall directly into DJ-snob-bro culture. Thank you! And, more please :)
Thank you so much for this. Just got my first CDJs and been using all the stuff you are teaching in these videos :)
These are so fun to watch Alison! Thank you for these and please keep them coming
Thanks for giving a bonus having fauce teaching us extra techniques real quick, I just saw the first episode and I understood a little bit more than this one but I can't thank you enough for giving us this lesson
Anyone know what songs they used in this episode?
Anyone know the piano one?
I don’t DJ and mix on a console like this but I DO sample and flip a lot in my music making (the Octatrack and MPC are my weapons of choice) and holy, so much of this rings true to sample flipping too. Extremely well done, and I love the EQing sections!
Your awsome ive studied djing in my past and have been wanting to get back into it but your music has inspired me to definitely consider getting back into it as well as you are beautiful as all get down!😊😊🙂😁😁👍👍👀
got something to look forward to after class☺️
Tried watching other videos but Alison explained everything best! Thank you for breaking everything down.
Thank you! 🙏 Grateful for the smiling, laughing and happy vibes. ✨
Honestly tried learning from other youtubers and it’s kinda hard and too fast paced, but I think Alison does it just right! You’re amazing!!!
You're name is a highly creative play on spelling/wording. I love it

Alice: I'm a friend-taught, self-made Keyboard monkey for some hobby mixing. Been a techie, and audiophile my whole life though. Just a nerd with a passion for EDM mostly. Great little beginner mix session, love it for those who don't know. They'll likely still be intimidated, but maybe your videos will inspire them to try and try again! :)
These lessons are fascinating, thanks
This is great for someone who has been practicing for a while too. Seeing garths tricks were cool and the breakdown mix out was cool too.
