      Mike Beard If i bought all the parts (excluding deck) how much would that run me and what would be a cheap set up?

    • @MikeBeard
      @MikeBeard  7 лет назад +2

      +SomeRandomUsername this set up would run you about $550 Maybe less with cheaper trucks, wheels, and vesc.
      A cheap set up is $300-$400
      A set up that's a great value would be $500-$600
      I would spend $500-$600. It makes a huge difference in quality.

    You got this out quick! Great job my friend :) LOL, the first time I soldered was pretty scary too; had to watch a ton of videos! You got one of the most solid VESCs in the industry! Also, the trucks are actually mandatory for most types of motor mounts because of the flat spot. Regardless, not many people are doing quality esk8 videos so mad props!

    • @MikeBeard

      Tristan Cooper if u want a board u can push freely get a hub motor instead of a satellite setup there is 0 resistance

  • @Phoeliz
    @Phoeliz 7 лет назад

    Does this system have re-gen breaking?
    How do you tune this?
    How do you know how much juice you have when you are outside?
    A little tip though. You can buy an RC parallel charging board on amazon so you don't have to swap batteries during the charging. Also, I suggest putting a battery tempture sensor on the batteries both when charging and ridding. It's very easy to close to the dangerous tempture when charging that fast, especially when the batteries have built up some internal resistance.
    Great video. I really want to ride an electric skateboard but I need to save for a while. XP
    Have a nice day Mike.

    • @MikeBeard
      @MikeBeard  7 лет назад +1

      +Felix L Yes it has regenerative charging, there is a battery percentage indicator that shows what percent battery is remaining, and you tune the regen by programming the vesc

    How much did all the parts cost?

  • @maxharrison9918
    @maxharrison9918 7 лет назад

    Wow! A 9s1p lipo, and that gauge wire for the XT60. I'm not an electrical engineer but I fly quads that use these types of batteries and with 4s1p lipos we use wire that thick, or maybe even thicker. Also, if a 9s1p battery really needed?

    • @MikeBeard
      @MikeBeard  7 лет назад

      +Max Harrison 14 gauge wire is only rated for 20amps. I've been pulling a lot more through it. In its early stages I tested and checked all the wiring frequently. Everything only got warm to the touch so it should all be fine. But of course I would recommend larger gauge wires for more permanent builds.

    • @MikeBeard

      +Spencer Young You can have 2 motors of you want but it requires two vecs. I don't feel it at all. You can't tell that there is only one wheel drive at all.

    Does it have some kind of brake? Like engine braking or similar? Is there any kind of emergency power cutoff if it suddenly wanna run away?

      This is 1wd. The boards we make now are 2wd or 4wd.
      There is regenerative braking.

    I wan't to build one of these thats sort of a hybrid to a skateboard. I used to longboard to get around and the bad part about it was (coming from a skateboarding background) it was hard to get through trivial areas like up curbs. I wan't to make a deck thats shaped like a skate board but a little larger with longboard wheels and trucks.

    Hey Mike I got a quick Q! I am debating whether to get a 190kv or 213kv turnigy motor for my board. Considering all other factors are the same (wheel size, gear reduction ratio, cell count) which motor would you prefer and why? I am aware of the inverse relationship of torque and top speed. Say I did go with the lower speed 190kv motor, would there be a considerable increase in torque and decrease in speed or would that not be noticeable at all? (maybe even through in a 245kv motor for comparisons sake) Just bouncing some thoughts of you haha

    Yep this is kind of what I thought it looked like. Luckily I am big into hobby grade RC cars. So my traxxas rustler vxl system is what I have. I already understand the electronics for that and this is basically the same thing but a little more complicated. My background definitely helps me understand this. So all you people out there that thinks this is complicated, it really isn't.

    You gave a really personable nature and a good fluidic friendly presentation style, but it's supposed to be a Build Tutorial and if I was trying to make one of those boards I still wouldnt know how after watching this. The occasional snapshot insert of a component is lost in the chitchat. Hopefully this isn't taken as too critical, I don't mean it to be, but I would have liked to SEE the parts progressively assembled and didn't feel I got that. Keep making videos though, and Im sure tons of folk will become fans.
