Mike Beard i would love to have one of those sort of how to build step by step videos about the e-penny board . The current video focuses only on hardware and not really on the installation . Thanks and i need to say the quality of your vids is phenomenal ( by the way i love those little sentences with this meme language) . Have a nice day!
So in the end the board will cost about the same as the boosted board mini? I just looked over it and it's about 750$. I thought a DIY board will have a price benefit?
It’s more than just a price benefit. Almost all builds do have a price benefit. But it’s also about making something for your self. Customizing it the way you want, problem solving your self. I can also upgrade and change it anyway I want. To me, building my own is a very gratifying experience. Just depends what you are in to. 🤙🏻
I love how you are trying to be simple. I think this is a great video but it would be nice if you could do a board( long board would be nice ) with out having to drill parts and make shapie marks. but I like the video keep it up.
Thanks man! One trick I figured out was to keep the plastic shrink wrap on the deck on while making my marks then after the drilling was done I pulled the plastic off. That way all the marks were gone and I didn’t have to worry 👍🏻

Hey I noticed that you had a power button for your ESC. When I was checking out that ESC on your website it said that it had smart turn on so no power button was necessary. Should I get a power button for the ESC?
I haven’t tried a 3m set up. But the 5m teeth are thicker which would make for better grip so I would think 5m would be best. Plus most electric skateboard stuff is for 5m so you’ll get more compatibility later on
Hey Mike! I'm working on my first build and was wondering if you could give me some advice? I bought a 6374 190KV motor from torque boards which has a Max Power: 3150 Watts Max Amps: 80 Amps Max Volts: 12S How do I know what battery will work best? Would I need 12 cells? I'm eager to finish my build up but have hit this road block. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
You could use 10 or 12 cell. I've had 12 cell with the exact motor from diyelectricsk8boards.com the motor is stupid fast... Just bought a 10 feel battery from mboards. Won't make huge difference
Thanks for your videos about building these boosted skateboards. I am in the same situation you were, now is my turn. Any thoughts in upgrading to stealth/silent motor sound?
I have a few questions. First of all, I noticed that the power button used is not in the parts list. Does anyone know where to get it? I also noticed that the esc you used has a feature that makes the esc power off after a minute of not being user. So is the switch even neccessary? Lastly, if you were to add a battery level indicator to this, how would it be done? Usually its soldered in after the power switch, but if the power switch is built in to the esc, then wouldn't you have to put it before the esc? And then wouldn't that make it so your indicator wouldn't turn off when the esc does?
@Mike Beard Hi I was going to buy a Riptide board for $529, and im now looking if its a better option to buy a riptide or to make one my self, and from where i am, i can say that with $529 of a riptide and $100 more, you can make a board that out performs the riptide R1x, that its $999. and here its a little list of parts i have: Riptide R1 Elit config ESB with belt Motor 2 -Dual belt drive 5055 motor kit $199.99 (this may change for Hub, but i can see what its better on a long time use) -Dual Belt Driven Motor ESC $119.99 -5.5*2.5mm Charge Port $7.50 -10s 42V Battery Charger $19.99 -10s2P battery $250 (this may change to a 10s3p) -32" x 9.5" Old School Pig (#P32) $25 -10s2p Battery Enclosure $34 Total:656.36 May include the bluetooth module you can go even cheaper, with a single belt drive 5055 motor that its $74, but with this config i just out power the riptide r1e that its at $760 if i remember right, and for $40 more, you can out perform the riptide r1x, but i stiil dont know what to do, because i can lower the price with a 6s4p battery, because i preffer range over speed, but want to know if i can do that change on the batt with out problems? hi from mexico
I think a solid product to sell would be a 10s2p battery enclosure with room for these Chinese escs. I haven’t been able to find any, and the combo is popular among diy builders. Love the vids btw!
Hey looking to DIY my boosted board V1 Dual + , it works fine but 6km range, 75mm wheels and 30kph isn't enough after almost 2000km. If possible my plan was to still use the boosted board deck and remote, (Also wondering is the VESC what controls the speed and the transmission from the remote?) Maybe I could use the boosted VESC and code it to allow higher speeds and Would it be compatible with another dual motor setup I was looking at which drive the 85mm caguamas? Thanks guys!
Boosted is most likely uses their own esc. I assume it’s not reprogrammable. But if you are willing to give up the controller and the app integration you could probably change the original ESC out for a VESC
@@MikeBeard Thanks for the reply, but still the usual reliability of the boosted remote is key for me, maybe I could buy the exact same components as boosted use and then reprogram. Also in your educated opinion what dual belt very high performance motors would you recommend? And is it possible to get an entire drive system of this quality premade? Great content by the way, will totally get parts from your MBoard site!
Hey mike, thank you for creating great vids. I was wondering if I had bought that dual motor kit could I put some all terrain wheels on there ? Or would it not fit, thank you for helping all of us out.
Hmm that is a good question. I would think it might pull to one side, but then again, having a single motor on one side doesn’t pull to that side so I’m not sure. Would have to try it out.
one of the best tutorials you have ever made. I understood it better and any questions about the charging port disapeard. You seem way more confident in front of the camera than half a year ago. Keep up the good work!
Use loctite to help keep the screws from vibrating out. You can also add a layer of tape between the motor mount and the trucks to make the motor mount motor snug.
Thank you, i will try that. I have an other question. This one is more technical. But, I've some trouble with my battery (at least I think) sometimes when I'm riding my board it suddenly loses all its power. And after I turn the board off and then back on it's has all its power. But when I'm start riding again the voltage drops completely. Do you know how I can fix this? Is it a battery problem or a BMS problem. (btw I'm using a 10s4p lio-ion battery pack)
I’ve had this problem in the past. It’s when one or two nickel strips barely looses contact with the rest of the pack. It happens due to the vibration of the road. Sometimes the nickel strip will be where it should and it will read full power. Sometimes it will have popped up a little bit and you’ll lose a random percentage suddenly. You may want to open your pack up and inspect everything.
Mike I’m building a board kind of like the boosted stealth but I want to have interchangeable battery packs do u have any idea how to lock the batteries in with a solid connection I have charging sorted
Hey Mike, I'm wondering what remote controller you're using on the build. Doesn't seem to come up on the link(s) provided, none of the ones I see have four modes like the one used here. Thanks!
Cool stuff Mike! Looks really good! I was actually thinking of making my own long board deck, but am not too sure about the electric part yet... It seems like quite a few people in the comments are looking for a more budget friendly option (I would be one of those people), but maybe in a future video. Keep up the great work! :)
You could have painted the grip tape rather than using different tapes, then it would have been a cleaner line. Nice build tho, when are you going to build a 12s insane one!?
Dear Mike Beard, I am looking to purchase one of your kits, but they are rather expensive. I was wondering if you had any sort of coupon code that would help. Thanks.
Hmm I have it as an active coupon code. Maybe double check spelling? Maybe check and be sure you typed everything lower case. It might be case sensitive
Hey Mike thanks for the code, I have a question. I am deciding what esc to buy and I'm stuck between the turnigy sk8-esc and the torque esc. although they are similar priced, the torque one is more expensive especially after shipping costs. which one would you recommend? thanks so much for your help
They are both basically Vesc hardware version 4.12. So either will work. And we are actually getting a better Vesc in this week that will replace the turnigy esc. Anyone with a pending order will get the upgrade for free
Vesc has better performance and more customizable than a regular esc. But Vescs are more expensive. So Vescs have better performance and ESCs have a better price. Just depends what you value. (I recommend a Vesc)
I tried that as well. 250mm was too tight with the new pulleys and 255mm was too loose. Seemed like everything I tried it was just barely the wrong size 😭
yep, adjustabel motor mounts is the way to go, im lucky that i know people with CNC skills... let me kknow if you want ther contacts (they all live in Denmark) but the stuf they make is AWESOME and would be great for your shop... I will be putting it in my shop soon.... www.fatdaddy.dk
What does a 10s5p offer over a 10s3p? is it longer battery usage? or would speed and execration be involved? Also do you know what the minimum wheelbase requirement to fit a 10s3p 2 in 1 enclosure would be? I have a deck that is 15.8" wheelbase and i like the idea of the slimmer 10s3p but don't want to potentially move the trucks with a remount.
Maybe electric skate board from recycling, not everything of course but you know desk from furniture, engine from drill, batteries from old broke laptop etc. maybe for Americans, British an other people from west that s funny because thats only 300$ but for us Poles that’s 1500 PLN 50-70 % wage (2200zł that normal wage not very good but not the lower) and eco terrorsit will be happy :D , and video may be interesting.
Great video but I looked at the parts and their prices. And it wouldn’t be worth it because, the wheels are 200$, motor 250$, the remote with regulator is on sale for 100$, plus all the other stuff you need to buy. I wanted to make one because I thought it would be cheaper than a boosted board but in comparison it’s only like 300$ off.
I was under the impression a diy build it yourself board would be cheaper. It works out at around $750-$800 dollars. Not very cheap. How does a student afford to build so many yet hard working people cannot. Surely you have a cheaper option. I’ll give you a challenge. To see if you can build a fairly reliable one for under $400. Now that would be great for all us poor folk.
I am a hard working person as well as a student. I am able to build so many because it is my full time job. The build out performs the Boosted board mini with a faster top speed and longer range. Many more reasons to build than just the price.
Well as i see it here its that there is soooooo many optios in the market now, not just boosted boards, and if you go to like 10 sites, you can buy and put together a board for under 400, or buy one from china. The main problem i see with people its that they think that because something its DIY it will be cheaper, and remember that you have to buy stuff at regular price, not on a price of 200+ units, but there is a + point on DIY, you know whats in it, if something goes wrong, you can buy the piece and repair it easy. I was going to buy a Riptide board for $529, and im now looking if its a better option to buy a riptide or to make one my self, and from where i am, i can say that with $529 of a riptide and $100 more, you can make a board that out performs the riptide R1x, that its $999. and here its a little list of parts i have: Riptide R1 Elit config ESB with belt Motor 2 -Dual belt drive 5055 motor kit $199.99 -Dual Belt Driven Motor ESC $119.99 -5.5*2.5mm Charge Port $7.50 -10s 42V Battery Charger $19.99 -10s2P battery $250 -32" x 9.5" Old School Pig (#P32) $25 -10s2p Battery Enclosure $34 Total:656.36 you can go even cheaper, with a single belt drive 5055 motor that its $74, but with this config i just out power the riptide r1 that its at $760 if i remember right, and for $40 more, you can out perform the riptide r1x
The power switches need to handle high voltage and high amperage. Basically all other switches in this same size and style can’t handle both high voltage AND amperage. This is why the switch is expensive. I agree it’s an expensive power button. But it is price matched to other suppliers. Most of our ESCs come with a power switch so purchasing one isn’t even necessary. Just a very specific, hard to find piece.
How is this only 8-10+ miles? With 324wh it should be more like 20 miles. Normally range is 16wh a mile, no? Nevermind, he said it was probably more of you ride less aggressive.
Lol I tried cutting my deck to look like a boosted mini, used a normal skateboard deck. I used a jigsaw and free handed the whole thing, but it turned out okay. Until my friends told me it was an abomination.
Damn. I made almost exact same board 2 months ago. It's really nice to see that you made something like this, because i was inspired by your last diy penny tutorial. I have the original black wheels, and a little bit diffrent battery (still 10s3p), same case and motors. I got impressive results 44km/h (i weight 96kg). You can see my board here: ruclips.net/video/GAIwf9tWXHg/видео.html
What video would you like to see me do next? I like to hear all of your ideas 😎

Boosted mini top speed 18mph and range up to 7 miles. This has a top speed of 25+ and range of 11 to 13 mi
you can make your own battery, buy other motors

Sounds like a beast.
Hej Mike..way cool!!! Want to make one for my son who is in first year of University!!!
Thanks for the great info!!!! :-)
That’s awesome man. I love to ride my around campus. Definitely the best way to get around. He’ll love it 👍🏻
Where did you purchase that exact enclosure? On your website, it is different. Can you add that on you website???
No wheel bite after changing the positions of the truck?
No wheel bite 😎
I love how you are trying to be simple. I think this is a great video but it would be nice if you could do a board( long board would be nice ) with out having to drill parts and make shapie marks. but I like the video keep it up.

The parts list is everything you need 👍🏻
how does this board do on hills. It looks super clean and I was thinking of building one myself.
is there any implementation of a regenerative breaking system? i could see something like it being added to the e-board prove to be very useful in stop and go situations or downhill situations where breaking is needed.
This is awesome! If you wanted to increase the range, would you increase the serial count or the parallel count on the battery pack?
Increase the parallel count for longer range 👍🏻
Thanks Mike! 🤟
Is it possible to do this with a 27 inch or a 22 inch. 22 is a stretch but just want some answers was planning to use a penny board
I like your videos, very informative.
Do you have any video explaining the different parts individualy?
For example I'm considering now which truck should I get, and how does one effects the performance? will they all fit?
Also, how do you calculate the top speed and range using the neat specs of the parts?
Hi Mike, I am interested in making my own mini electric skateboard like this one. Have you found any way to put on the orangutan wheels without dremel? Also do you have a full tutorial on this build?
I want to build a board for my brother. He's 6'4 and 300 lbs. I have a $400 budget. Can you suggest a build? Do you have a video for my needs? Thank you
A little cheaper then a boosted board, but if the range is true, its better range for much less then a boosted. Cool project
it is also a dual belt rather than the single belt which is the main difference proving higher speeds and better torque
Hey I noticed that you had a power button for your ESC. When I was checking out that ESC on your website it said that it had smart turn on so no power button was necessary. Should I get a power button for the ESC?
Can this board roll without the motors. So if lets say the battery dies, I can just start pushing the board with out any interference.
Hi Mike,
Have you tried 3M/5M pulleys? Which one do you think is the best?
Thanks!!
I bought a 6374 190KV motor from torque boards which has a
Max Power: 3150 Watts
Max Amps: 80 Amps

For $150, the best build will be a pair of comfortable shoes and 2 human legs. Good luck.
Thanks for your videos about building these boosted skateboards. I am in the same situation you were, now is my turn.
Any thoughts in upgrading to stealth/silent motor sound?
How does it handle water? Is there a way to make it as mater resistant as possible?
Can you make a vid of installing charge port?
Hey mike, can you teach how to assemble a 10s3p battery pack? is pretty much the same as a 10s2p?
It’s exactly the same. Just use groups of 3 cells instead of groups of 2.
I got a question let’s say the board dies can you still push it like a normal board or is it harder or not at all??
You can push it but there is resistance due to the belts.
I have a few questions. First of all, I noticed that the power button used is not in the parts list. Does anyone know where to get it? I also noticed that the esc you used has a feature that makes the esc power off after a minute of not being user. So is the switch even neccessary? And then wouldn't that make it so your indicator wouldn't turn off when the esc does?
Awsome build!
I want to make one but with a minimum of 10-12 miles. My weight is around 98-100kg. Maybe a bigger battery pack?
Going down to a single motor would increase the range 15-20%.
But yes a larger battery pack would work for sure
hi youtuber, in the website the dual belt drive motor kit was 404 page not found, where i can order the motor kit?
Does the dual motor make a big difference in performance vs the single
Dual motors makes for more traction, faster acceleration, better braking power but less range and higher cost.

Yes they should. Although you would have lower clearance than usual
Mike Beard great thank you. Awesome videos btw

Hmm that is a good question. I would think it might pull to one side, but then again, having a single motor on one side doesn’t pull to that side so I’m not sure. Would have to try it out.
Would the top speed be affected by using the 10s2p battery?
Top speed stays the same with all 10s batteries.

It can work, but I’d recommend the 10s3p to handle the extra amperage you’ll be pulling with the dual motors.
Ok thanks
Can you put those all terrain wheels on the board?
Yes 👍🏻

over $700

Hey Alex, how much will it cost you to make me this board.
the total is like over $700 for all the parts

They are both basically Vesc hardware version 4.12. So either will work. And we are actually getting a better Vesc in this week that will replace the turnigy esc. Anyone with a pending order will get the upgrade for free
Do you build are board or send us the parts so we can build it
How did you make the subscirbe button go all pretty when you said that we should subscribe. Am ai going crazy?!?!?
wich is better vesc or esc ?
Vesc has better performance and more customizable than a regular esc. But Vescs are more expensive. So Vescs have better performance and ESCs have a better price. Just depends what you value. (I recommend a Vesc)
How long does 10s3p battery take to charge completely?
2-3 hours
Hey, Thanks
I like what you're doing here
Why is your range only 8-10 miles for a 10s3p? Even on a 10s2p I would expect around 11 miles for a dual belt motor.
Can you make a full version for the longboard
Would a 3d printed pulley have worked?
Yes I’ve seen a ton of people do that 👍🏻
Can i use a larger deck?
Of course. Use any deck you want and then follow the same steps and you’ll be good to go 👍🏻
Cost of build?
What is the full price of all the parts you used?
$600-$650
Mike Beard Cool thank you!
What about hub vs belt which performs better
Belt motors will have more torque than Hub motors but both will achieve the same top speed.
Ok
does power switch come with charge port
I like the Bootsed Mini X, but I was looking for a board that has a replaceable battery.
When you tell your mom you want a booster board and she says “we have a booster board at home” boosted board at home:
Except this one beats the specs of the real one 😏
Wgere can i buy the charging port and power switch and the charger
www.mboards.co
could you not get a shorter or longer belt?
I tried that as well. 250mm was too tight with the new pulleys and 255mm was too loose. Seemed like everything I tried it was just barely the wrong size 😭
yep, adjustabel motor mounts is the way to go, im lucky that i know people with CNC skills... let me kknow if you want ther contacts (they all live in Denmark) but the stuf they make is AWESOME and would be great for your shop... I will be putting it in my shop soon.... www.fatdaddy.dk
Why not go with 10s5p for this build??
I could have, I just wanted that slim form factor of the 10s3p 👍🏻
What does a 10s5p offer over a 10s3p? is it longer battery usage? or would speed and execration be involved? Also do you know what the minimum wheelbase requirement to fit a 10s3p 2 in 1 enclosure would be? I have a deck that is 15.8" wheelbase and i like the idea of the slimmer 10s3p but don't want to potentially move the trucks with a remount.
Do you have one to sell? I'm in Hoboken. I could meet you.
I’m in Vegas 😬
Oh, sorry. Thought you were in NYC for some reason. Do you ship?
I totally love your videos, man you rock. I have a question though - what happens when the battery goes to 0, can you ride the skate after that?
Yes you can. There is some added resistance because of the belts but you can still push.
Mike Beard thank you
Sell it men! Sell it
Has anyone found a pulley for the kegels that would work on the daul belt drive kit?
Why not change the belt?
7:19 why dont u just colord black ones to orange
I NEED THE ENCLOSURE BUT IT DOESNT EXIST ANYMORE
ME TOO I REALLY want THAT ONE
Wheres the remote info
I was under the impression a diy build it yourself board would be cheaper. It works out at around $750-$800 dollars. Not very cheap.
How does a student afford to build so many yet hard working people cannot. Surely you have a cheaper option.
I’ll give you a challenge. To see if you can build a fairly reliable one for under $400. Now that would be great for all us poor folk.
I am a hard working person as well as a student. I am able to build so many because it is my full time job. The build out performs the Boosted board mini with a faster top speed and longer range. Many more reasons to build than just the price.
Mike Beard yes I understand that but surely at a competitive price.
Do you accept my challenge.??
can just buy ler spec parts...it wont go 25 mph..thats all
Most students know how to make some money.
I was going to buy a Riptide board for $529, and im now looking if its a better option to buy a riptide or to make one my self, and from where i am, i can say that with $529 of a riptide and $100 more, you can make a board that out performs the riptide R1x, that its $999.
and here its a little list of parts i have:
Riptide R1 Elit config
ESB with belt Motor 2
-Dual belt drive 5055 motor kit $199.99
-Dual Belt Driven Motor ESC $119.99
-5.5*2.5mm Charge Port $7.50
-10s 42V Battery Charger $19.99
-10s2P battery $250
-32" x 9.5" Old School Pig (#P32) $25
-10s2p Battery Enclosure $34
Total:656.36
you can go even cheaper, with a single belt drive 5055 motor that its $74, but with this config i just out power the riptide r1 that its at $760 if i remember right, and for $40 more, you can out perform the riptide r1x
Id use a landyachtz deck
That would be pretty awesome 😎
i think mboards has a problem first why is the powerbutton 60 dollars and second your batterys are far to expensive for what you are getting
Just a very specific, hard to find piece.
ok thanks
How is this only 8-10+ miles? With 324wh it should be more like 20 miles. Normally range is 16wh a mile, no? Nevermind, he said it was probably more of you ride less aggressive.
Depending on your riding style you can see a lot more range. Also remember when you add a 2nd motor you will only get about 70% of the original range.
Lol I tried cutting my deck to look like a boosted mini, used a normal skateboard deck. I used a jigsaw and free handed the whole thing, but it turned out okay. Until my friends told me it was an abomination.
Aww man. That’s what I was afraid of lol
