The "caps" on the side of the crank case (the plugs are in the actual timing side of the case, called the timing cover) This is where the alternator and stator are located. The opposite side is the clutch cover. This is a good video. I've only owned Triumphs, and wanted to know if the rockers on these Hondas were adjustable. I've just acquired a CBR 150. They're the same. Cheers. Also, a good chisel or a sharpened tire tool will get the timing plugs out, especially if they've not been unscrewed for a number of years. The coin method works if the bike has been well looked after. Thanks for the video :)
this has been a great help cheers! read up on how to do it and it sounded daunting when they talked about the removal of the tank and radiator but i now feel confident to do the valves myself!
You are very good at these instructions, more of them plz :-) Is this done on a warn or cold engine? Mine is a ´09 version Fi, im planing to put a Athena 170 cc Fi on mine some day, Because i miss more torque, not more speed but i cant find any on the internet that has one on theirs. Do you know any on about this?
@Zyplauk haha, I'm in Australia, so it would be a long trip :P I got it figured out anyway - turns out I overlooked the fact that the piston will actually be at Top Dead Center twice during its cycle, once between the intake and exhaust strokes, and again between compression and power strokes. It should be measured after the compression stroke, not the exhaust as I was doing. All fixed now and bike is running great once more!
Hey man question k I'm a Honda CBR 125 R Canadian racer and i would personaly never put my race bike on the winter roads a = No traction b = Tires crack when touching cold surfaces in the the winter and man u wanna take care of your bike race it ;)
It isn't a crank case, that is the lower part of the engine, holding the crank shaft. This is the valve cover, covering the valves, as it were... Very instructive though. Keep safe
Hi Zyplauk, thanks for the guide, having issues with my own CBR125 though. Rotated counter-clockwise to TDC (made sure to go same direction the crankshaft turns), and the valves seemed to be way too tight. Adjusted them anyway, and now there is too much clearance (valves are very noisy) but the measurements are still OK. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thanks.
The Athena isnt here in DK as well, I was actually going to buy it from UK over internet, so can others A tip: Remember, NEVER to start hard on a cold engine, warn it up slowly and then the valves dont move..ever! (i been told that from a honda dealer) Mine done allmost 10.000km and yet no adjust of vales was nesseary sorry my bad english
I tried doing this today but found it almost impossible to get an alan key into the valve cover. It looked like I would have to take the side fairings and possibly the entire radiator out. Do you have any tips?
@Zyplauk yes i agree with you - its good to learn how to check the valves dont get me wrong :-) but if it breaks when driving its allready too late to repair, i had a chinascooter before the *Honda*, there came a ticking sound from the valves on it when driving, so listen for the ticking sound on the *Honda* when driving - but we ,cbr 125r, have paid for quality, and not chinashit :-) but just as you know what to listen for. :-)
Are there anyone that have been to adjust the valves on theirs? my serviceman, which is aut. for honda the last 25 years, says it isnt nesseary if you drive nice until engine is warm. He knows other hondas that driving over 60.000km and still no need to adjust valves And my valves havent been nesseray to adjust either. driving over 24.000km Treat your engine nice when cold and valve clearince isnt nesseary
ive decided to service my bike, and this video has proven very helpful. thankyou!
Still relevant 13 years later. 👍

Great video, and very informative. I ride other bigger bikes, but love this little bike for its fuel economy, cheap to insure, and ease of use.

you really deserve a cameraman, so you can do your excelent work with both hands :D
Very VERY helpful video as im about to undertake this annoying job! thanks man!

Hi everyone, do you need to drain the oil from the engine first?
No need to drain, the entire procedure is what you see in the video.
@@Zyplauk many thanks
Valve cover...Remove the VALVE cover. The crankcase is the lower end; it holds the crank and clutch.
Are you able to check the exhaust valve like this without removing the radiator completely?
I tried doing this today but found it almost impossible to get an alan key into the valve cover. It looked like I would have to take the side fairings and possibly the entire radiator out. Do you have any tips?

Do I need a new gasket?
Crazy 1 hand
Thinking about doing a well needed valve clearance mook? :P
*waits for your next video*

for those non Canadian's a Loonie is a $1 coin.
Cheers.
Good guide. Your camera makes you sound like a robot though. :)
Hey zyplauk where you from mate?
How about showing us how to clean oilfilter??
Its not just an ordinary filter, as you know :-)
jeszcze nie widziałem hondy cbr 125 w kolorze zółtym.
anybody else not got the pivot style tank? its balls, jobs much more annoying without it...
@Zyplauk hehe, I would if I lived in Canada :P
good guide. the intro was a bit too long tho :D
Holy shit was that fucking snow? WOw.
damn dude take a breath.
He may have health problems.. not funny
@@chriscs9080 ok il feel bad for something i said 5 years ago.

just a bit of advice, get a proper camera and loose the gloves... Very instructive though. Keep safe
So you'd rather jump on a 1000cc for a learner bike? Thats how people end up dead...
