    "You think you can steal from us and just walk away?"
    "Yeah."
    That "Yeah" was an ad-lib from Heath Ledger.

    I remember when it was announced that Heath Ledger had been cast as the Joker and there were so many people doubting whether or not he could do that because they were like "Oh, 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight's Tale, Brokeback Mountain? Nah, that guy can't do it." And then this is the performance they got and he's just so amazing as the Joker. The fact that he actually insisted on doing his own makeup so you can see the traces of pain on his fingers and that he also worked directly with the costume designer to pick out the Joker's wardrobe just shows how dedicated he was to giving his all for this role. I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this trilogy!

      And most of those pricks later pretending that they never said those things 🤣. Pure stupidity thinking an actor is incapable because of the kind of people their roles were, not their acting ability.

    • @bigdream_dreambig

      @@unitedstatesofamerica9948 To be fair, his previous roles are the only way anyone could _judge_ his acting ability, and nothing there said he could play a villain. I'd actually be really curious to see recordings of the auditioning process to see what the casting director saw that others didn't.

      People make rush judgments before they even see anything. Godfather would not have Al Pacino if not for the director backing him up.

    • @BlueIcyRose
      @BlueIcyRose 2 года назад +2

      @@bigdream_dreambig If I remember right, on the last DC Fandome, they said that Nolan actually approached him about being in the movie - I can't remember if it was for a part in the first movie or if it was for this one as either another character or Joker - but they said that at first he said no - possibly because of timing which is what makes me think maybe it was for the first movie - and then later, Heath Ledger approached him about becoming the Joker. Don't quote me on that one though. I'd have to find that documentary (well, not documentary but I can't think of the right word at the moment, lol) and rewatch it to double check if I'm remembering right or not.

      @@denniszenanywhere Agreed! Heath Ledger in this, Al Pacino in Godfather, and the other one that comes to mind is the studio not wanting Robert Downey Jr to be cast as Tony Stark and Jon Favreau insisting that it had to be him that played the part.

    He was able to bend the gun because he had a mechanism in his hands that allows him more leverage. You can see it on a bigger screen. You can kind of hear it to as he bends the barrel.

    • @normlee6566
      @normlee6566 2 года назад

      leverage has nothing to do with having superhuman strength to bend the metal barrel of a gun with one hand. There is no "mechanism" in his gloves except for the cutting tool, that didn't effectively work when he was clinging to the van. It was inexplicable.

    • @jgllanesv
      @jgllanesv 2 года назад +21

      @@normlee6566 except it is explicable and very easily. They removed the sound from that particular scene and only showed a couple of seconds, but if you go to an unedited video of that scene, not only can you see something in his hand and hear a mechanism whirring and hissing, so something definetely was in his hand aiding him bend the barrel of the gun.
      Also, Batman is pretty much known for having gadgets for everything on his belt, i wouldn't doubt that a rifle barrel bending gadget and a metal cutting implement would be on there somewhere.
      Edit: i mean unedited scene not in a "pre-production" or behind the scenes way, i mean as the scene that is in the movie and not edited for copyright on this reaction.

    • @normlee6566
      @normlee6566 2 года назад

      @@jgllanesv There is nothing in Batman's arsenal in the comics, outside of his superman armor, that enhances his strength. There is nothing in the Nolan movie trilogy to suggest that except for the enhanced leg brace he wore in Dark Knight Rises. What you are stating as fact, is conjecture on your part.

    • @jgllanesv
      @jgllanesv 2 года назад +13

      @@normlee6566 but it's not about "enhanced strength" in his suit, it's the gadget in his hand (a separate apparatus from his suit) that is doing the bending of the barrel, and it's something you can very easily hear when he uses it. It takes more observation to see it but it's there, as OP said, it's easier to see on a bigger screen.
      Also, that Batman didn't have a just a single piece of kit that isn't from the comics is not a good argument for its non-excistance because a lot of things on superhero movies are made up from them, they are used as inspiration and source material, not a frame by frame repro of a comic, specially since this movie isnt based on any single particular Batman comic series, but a mix of them with added elements.

    • @normlee6566
      @normlee6566 2 года назад

      @@jgllanesv it is in your imagination. why couldn't he demonstrate similar feats throughout the movie? he certainly could have used it. it's because there is no such device in his hand that explains the metal bending. leverage has absolutely nothing to do with it.

    Word is Rachel was recast because Warner Bros. didn't like the attention Katie Holmes was attracting to the film. At the time of Batman Begins' release, she had started dating Tom Cruise, and that's when he started doing weird stuff like jumping on Oprah's couch and spouting Scientology stuff and getting confrontational during interviews. And all that was making Warner Bros. really uncomfortable, so they didn't bring Katie back for The Dark Knight.

    Domi. E although The Dark Knight isn't a direct adaptation of any storyline from the comic books, one of the many things this movie did an incredible job on is keeping The Joker's backstory a mystery. There's a line from the graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke where The Joker says to Batman "sometimes I remember it one way sometimes another but if I'm to have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice" pretty much confirming that not even The Joker himself knows what parts of his past were real and what parts were fake

    This movie does automatic weapons right. There aren't a lot of movies that I feel like accurately portray how scary machine guns are. Like when he shoots the guy in the bank, and then the "come on, hit me" scene where he peppers that oncoming car and even goes on to accidentally shoot like 7 rounds while he's limping in that same scene.

      That's kind of the sad thing about acting as it was developed in the US. Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, and especially Lee Strasberg twisted Stanislavski's system by focusing too much on embodying the character rather than the character's objectives and actions. Each of them developed their own way to embody the character which essentially formed the basis of method acting.
      Strasberg technique: heavy emotional recall
      Adler technique: imagining the character's world
      Meisner technique: communication and adaptation
      In fact, when Adler asked Stanislavski what he thought of method acting, he hated it and said emotional recall should only be used as a last resort and that actors should focus on the character's actions instead of emotions, which pissed off Strasberg.

      @@PurushaDesa Agreed. There was also a rumour that Cruise wanted to be allowed on set whenever he liked but his presence was disruptive so Nolan said he wasn't allowed to visit and I imagine he didn't like that. It could've been entirely Katie's own decision not to take the role but...I doubt it.

      I think by her own admission these large blockbusters aren’t really her scene. But she is demonstrating considerable skill as a writer/director in her own right. _The Lost Daughter_ was a very unsettling parenthood drama and she assembled an absolutely terrific cast too. I thought Jessie Buckley was the standout.

    It was the fault of Katie Holmes for her absence in this spectacular movie "The Dark Knight" - Nolan wanted her presence for continuity, and she refused to play her character due to her horrible scheduling problems. Nolan was bitter, and Katie missed out on a classic film - yet Gyllenhaal portrayed a wonderful role, and I preferred her presence immensely more than Katie's anyways.

    Alfred's watch the world burn story... it's really well told, and he's right about the Joker. But there's no reason you can think of, Alfred, that a man might be stealing gems intended for an empire to bribe people and give away the loot? No reason at all?

    Haven’t watched the whole thing yet, but I find the best audio mixing is 50/50 reaction and movie. If the reaction is just right then the movie is too quiet, and if the movie is just right the reaction is too loud (in this case).
