heath wore prosthetic for the scares on his face and when he would move his mouth to talk overtime the prosthetic glue would dry and fall off making him go to the trailer and spend 20 minutes putting them back on and heath got tired of that so what heath decided to do was lick his lips alot this way would keep the moisture in place and would not fall off but also add a weird and creepy vibe to his character as well.

Michael Caine also wasn't prepared beforehand, and even was supposed to have a line when Joker steps into the room but was so surprised that he forgot to talk and they just kept filming.

    • @kingscorpion7346

people have tried to debunk that, talking about the actors having to practice their lines together and all before shooting. I had to tell them that that works for practicing for a stage play. movies are made entirely different, where the actors don't always practice together before filming. I have been in a couple of indie films myself, and I never met my co-stars until the day we met on the set and started filming! it just depends on people's schedules. I knew my lines, they knew their lines, the camera pointed, started rolling, and we were acting our parts.

One of my friends called me when they first announced they were updating the Batman movies. Not because I was a huge Batman fan but because I’ve been a HUGE Christian Bale fan since he was 12 years old. I’d talked about him forever and she knew I’d be excited over his casting. THIS movie came out and I KNEW Heath had stolen the movie from Christian. He was truly amazing in this role!

The great thing Nolan did with Batman franchise is he took out the super natural but very much stay true to the soul of the comics. Scarecrow was terrifying villain, Ra's Al Ghul though lesser known villain before movies was Batman's true evil counter part, just as gifted and dangerous. Two Face was finally given respect he deserve with his fascinating back story and how he became what he is today. And Joker always being the foil to Batman that no matter how many times they clash the Joker wins because he will never stop and Batman will never kill him. And with the last movie coming up Bane is finally feared for good reason in comics as one of the few villains that actual beat Batman.

That extract method Batman used in Hong Kong (with the balloon that gets grabbed by a plane) was a real extraction method developed in the 50s for the CIA called the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system (STARS), also known as Skyhook. The CIA and different US special ops units used it as a method of extraction deep behind enemy lines. It seems a bit far fetched, so finding out it was real and actually used is just kinda wild to me lol

The spilling the champagne is one of the best details. Topped only maybe by the jokers finger on the fireng pin while holding Harvey's gun to his head. By spilling the champagne it lets him look like he's so relaxing he's drinking on the job and so wild He's spilling it everywhere, but in reality its a way to stay stone cold sober.

Its my opinion that the Joker custom-designs his origin story to terrify the person he's talking to.
1.)His origin was about a nightmarish father when talking to mobster Gambol, b/c, statistically, Gambol probably came from a fatherless broken home which helped direct him to a life of crime and in his heart of hearts Gambol would have liked to have a father. Moral of Joker's story: "fear your dreams., son"
2.)His origin about a woman robbed of her beauty which destroys her marriage was for Rachel, a woman beautiful enough to engage a good and important man. If she loses her beauty will her life be destroyed, too? If so, her beauty is her cage and time is her jailer. Moral of Joker's story: "fear your dreams, pretty lady."

When Joker was giving Batman the addresses to where Rachel and Harvey were being held, he switched up who was where because he knew Batman would go for Rachel and he also knew this would be the tipping point for Harvey and would turn him into the villain he became, Two-Face. Also the scene when Joker blows up the hospital where he is walking out and things suddenly stop exploding was not on purpose. It was improvised because there was a malfunction with the explosives so he turned around and did the whole shoulder shrug then they started going off again and startled him.

This version of the Joker, is so relatable, if you’ve been through pain in your life. Just as with every hero and villain story, they’re usually two sides of the same coin…they just chose two different paths to deal with the pain.
Joker wanted destruction and Batman wanted goodness.
Most of us, end up choosing a path closer to the Joker than to Batman; It’s why he’s the hero…someone who we’ll never actually be, but wish we were.

I feel like your son was genuinely disturbed throughout a lot of the joker scenes. I don’t blame him, heath really managed to bring the joker to life in a way I never expected the first time I watched in 2008. I was 11

A lot of the things Heath did/say or how he said it, was improvised or asked to be changed by him. If the director (hope that’s the right word) had gotten his way, the freezer scene would have looked somewhat different. When Heath went up to “Rachel” that was the first time (that’s what I’ve heard) that she actually saw Heath with the makeup on, so that was actual fear you witnessed on the screen. And the final thing I know of, is the hospital, once Heath pressed the button on the remote, the entire hospital was going to blow up (they actually blew up a real building for that scene so they only had one chance) but all of the charges didn’t go off, so Heath stood around and kept pushing buttons, and that’s the scene you saw in the movie. Once everything started blowing up, he rushed on the bus and the scene continued

The hospital explosion scene was meticulously planned, and they practiced it 12 times before they shot it. Not improv. The director explained it in an interview.

If what I read was accurate, the part where the hospital detonator was malfunctioning was improv.

I believe Nolan discredited that. I don't remember where exactly I heard him bring it up but I think he said the explosion was meant to delay for safety reasons to prevent accidental injury.

"That's really good acting by Maggie Gyllenhaal. She just didn't seem to like that at all."
That's because she didn't :P until that take, she hadn't known what Heath was going to look like in full costume, nor (as others already mentioned) that he was going to grab her and stick the knife right in her face. She was in fact scared.
Same for Michael Caine. You see him just turning his head and staring at Heath as the Joker enters through the elevator... Michael actually had a line he was supposed to say but he was so genuinely in awe he forgot to say the line.

Fantastic film, but you have got to see this in IMAX. I fly to London to the BFI IMAX everytime they have this on show. Last year they had a movie marathon with the Dark Knight trilogy. Fantastic movie. Heath Ledger only got to see the first 6 mins of the opening bank robbery scene. He loved it so much he asked to see it again 😊

The reason for the different stories "Joker" gave was cause Joker has no official backstory, as Joker says in one of the animated movies, Killing Joke, I think "If I'm going to have an origin, I'd prefer it be multiple choice!" While there is a lose canon, PARTIAL origin of Joker, which is he was once a failed comedian who had a wife, they were struggling horribly, she was pregnant and died, as did the kid, everything went south and the man who was, was no more, things happened and he turns into Joker. But in regards to who Joker was before he was Joker in any further detail, there is none. And it's by design.
