Yes! Good addition! I have a similar shelter: Paha Que 12' X 12' that has been used often for 7 plus years without problems. Great to stay out of the sun, insects, rain, etc. My "side panels" are attached and can be staked out for even more shade/shelter. And, it will sleep 17 people IF THEY ARE *REAL* FRIENDLY!
hello from the Ozarks!! I have the pavilion and we love ours too!! I replaced the pegs that came with the ten with 16in. lag screw bolts with a 2in. washer and use my portable drill to install and remove my pegs. it comes in handy in hard rocky ground areas! cheers!
And it's a nice looking unit ... sealing and waterproofing are worth their weight in gold when mother nature throws you some rain and bugs ... I know a few people have large high end RV's who have Clams and the spend most of their time in them ... when the weather is moderate ... the side panels are a great bonus ... and you can't beat the ease and speed of set up, and nice storage bag ... quick set up is also good for drying/airing out before storage at home ... I see the kids have a trailer too, really wonderful seeing the grand kids out enjoying nature at that beautiful, innocent age .... I think I might pick one up that size too ... you almost double your floor living space ...

You want the Pavillion size. It comes with the wind sheets and they’re attached also, there is a floor that attaches as well and sealed uptight you can have a heater inside and live inside and it’s huge and I love it.

I love mine. I have the larger one that is heavy for an old woman to carry, so I ordered the small one because I will be going on a caravan and don’t know what the bug situation will be. I figured I could set it up quickly. I’ll use the big one when I stay places longer. I do find that it can be hot inside so I have a fan inside that works very well.

When we were camping on the coast at Quobba Station in Western Australia another couple arrived and proceeded to set-up a similar Gazeebo without the side barriers. I was amazed that they had it set-up in 10 minutes just before the rain arrived and they were well protected unlike ourselves. I've since bought one but haven't used it thus far. They're a great idea and don't take up much space.
Just subscribed to your channel the other day. I have really enjoyed watching your videos. I think you and Linda make a great couple. I have a large clam like that but I'm not strong enough to open it by myself. Had to get my neighbor to. I really enjoyed it this summer. I am going to try to get me the six footer so maby I can handle it better and give this large one to my son and his family. There's just my little dog Sassy and me anyway. We love our Clam shelter and use it often so it's gotten more "dings" since that rain storm and still is in great shape. Maybe we'll see you down the road somewhere.
Thank you for this informational video. I have purchased a Quick-Set from Clam but have never had it out of the box. I will be prepared now with waterproofing spray for the top and the seam sealer when I do set it up. Enjoy your straight forward presentations.
I'm not sure that the seam sealer is absolutely necessary. You can always add it later if need be. At first we only applied the waterproofing and, during heavy rain, it didn't leak at all.

That is why the pegs are the first thing that showed up to keep you from fighting the wind, and two working together makes it a quick job to get it up and ready to get into for protection from the insects and cold and heat, looks like a good product too, and give you extra room...
Great video. I have the sky camper. I think it’s 12 X 12. It’s made exceptionally well. Does your tent have the door tubes you set up on both sides of the door? Adds reinforcement. I’d like to add a more breathable screen to the windows to get a better breeze while still keeping out the bugs. Thank again for another great video.

I'll never get mine up in 60 seconds and I had pop the last two sides out from the inside. Wish they made a rainfly for it. I'm also having a custom aluminum 6x10 (or maybe x11) cargo trailer made into a camper. Thanks!
Ordered the large pavilion size with attached wind/sun panels but did not even unbox it before returning it. Just to cumbersome to store and handle it. Instead, will order the more manageable Venture 9 x 9 size with wind/sun panels that can be attached. Would prefer the sides to be built in but it’s a trade off.
I can recommend it. It looks well made and should last. I don't leave it up in the wind though, but it comes down faster than it goes up, so no problem. Thanks Mona!

Great video! I bought a rain fly but I think it only works with the Escape, not the Venture. Absolutely love my Quick-Set Clam shelter! I've got panels for all the sides and I'm working on a way to cover the door to use it as a tent for winter camping.
For the collapsing roof I was looking into a shower curtain rod that is adjustable with rubber on the ends and extends to 105 in. I wonder if it would be possible to use a strong double side tape to add velcro where needed.

I use a clam ice hut when ice fishing. After a few times, up & Down in a minute no problem. Looks like you could put over a picnic table pretty easily.

The Clam is getting used regularly and is holding up fine. We use the side panels most of the time it's up for blocking wind and also for blocking the sun. We think this size is perfect for us because it goes up easily and is still short enough to stow under our bunks across the back of our trailer. Inside there's room for a 4 foot table and plenty of room for the two of us to sit in our chairs and stretch out. Hope this helps.
@@gonagain Thanks for the fast reply. I throw my back out EVERY time I camp because of the stooping. Stoop to set up tent, stoop to furnish the tent, stoop to get in and out of the tent, stoop to get the muddy dog out of the tent. Made the plunge last night and dropped $400 on an escape sky with floor and panels and the ability to remove the top for stargazing. It's used but I've had pretty good luck with ebay. Fair winds mate!
Having the weight and packed size specs would be helpful. I have a 10x10 King Canopy which is fairly heavy as it is made to hold up to more rain and wind loads.

@@juliealexanderturner1935 Hi Julie. We use it all the time and it's perfect for bugs. The one drawback is that in the direct sunlight it can get hot inside. The screen material is very tight so that no-see-ums can't get through and that restricts the breeze a bit. Also, the sun comes through the translucent top. It's great to keep out bugs and rain but not so good as a shade tent. One thing I've been intending to try is to tuck some space blanket material under the top to keep the heat out. I think that would work to make it cooler inside.
You have been using it for nearly a year. Have you had trouble with it being to hot inside during the day? I have read a few reviews where it was suggested that a fan is needed because the bug netting is so tightly woven and there is no top ventilation it traps the heat. I would be interested in how hot it gets inside compared to the outside temperature. Thank you for a nice video.
It's been a real boon to our boondocking, that's for sure. When it gets hot it's still cooler inside but enough sun comes through the screen that we put one or two of the panels on to provide more shade. I haven't felt the need for a fan, but I haven't used it over about 85 degrees yet. But it would still be cooler inside. The main thing with the Clam is to take it down in any wind. You can just collapse it, only takes a few seconds, and put a weight on top to hold it in place. Of course you'll have it well staked down. Hope all this helps in your decision.
@@gonagain I think the complaints are that the screening doesn't allow the breeze to pass through which to me is the point of being outside. So how did you find it in that regard ?
We purchased our second Clam Pavillion this spring, so now we have two 12x12 models. We live on a farm and although we have central air in our house, we set our first tent up in our yard as a sort of summer cabin. Beginning in May, we had it up every day through rain and shine until early October. One of the first problems we had was the roof collapsing in high winds or heavy rains. The company maintained that the tent wasn't designed to be used that way (?) It is just a day shelter that you would take down if such weather conditions were imminent. That sounded crazy, so searching the internet we found another person's solution using a telescoping broom handle with a toilet plunger head on the screw-on broom end, which stood on the top of a picnic table inside the tent. The roof flexes against the toilet plunger cup, which is just big enough to fit loosely around the center hub, but it won't collapse. (A sky hook would work too but they're pretty tough to find.) That has worked very well for us. I could see that you could also do it with the handle end against the ground too, but a picnic tabletop lends itself nicely as a support. We added a woodsy touch to it by drilling a large enough hole to fit the handle end in an upright 8-inch by 12-inch cob of oak then varnishing the bark against bug infiltration. I used Kiwi Camp Dry water repellent on the roof, walls and seams, every couple months as we didn't have a rain fly for it. The next year we did the same thing. When I put it away last fall I could see the fraying effects of UV along one or two edges on where the roof is sewn to the walls and could foresee it only getting worse this year, so I encouraged the wife to get us a new one, now that we know all the tricks. I purchased a rain fly for the roof as the new tent came with hooks for it on each corner, and though the tent wasn't made for it, a floor that was, and fit inside. We also use a sort of 'astro-turf' for a floor covering on top of it. It's been a very wet and stormy year here in NW Minnesota by the Canadian border, so we delayed setting up the new tent until a week ago, July 8th. We noticed immediately that it was cooler in the tent with the rainfly on; tremendous difference even though we have the tent tucked under a good shade tree for the better part of the day. The only thing was that high winds of a recent storm hit squarely on the doorside of the tent and that's when we began noticing the rainfly wanting to lift off like a parachute. It has sewn-in Velcro strips along its edges, but the tent does not so it only attaches at the corners. We reluctantly took the rainfly off until we could figure out how to remedy this problem. The roof did not leak. I used the same kind of repellent Gonagain used, coincidentally, not having access to any Kiwi Camp Dry, but it seemed to work fine. The Pavillion is a great tent, but as Gonagain decided rightly, it needs a little tweaking to make it even better.
Yes, it gets really hot inside. I put a heavy duty silver tarp over the whole roof. Tie down the tarp with bungees and ropes. Then it's quite comfortable inside when you need shade. And side wind panel(s) on the sunny side helps too.
The jury is still out on that but we'll find out. I don't leave it up in any wind above about 15mph just to keep the poles from poking through. It's reasonable enough in price that I'll be happy if I get 4 years out of it, but I really think it's built fairly well and will do ok.
@@janebray9392 , I can vouch for the fact that the rain doesn't do that. At least not this model (maybe the bigger ones?). It's been in two heavy downpours and was just fine. But I don't leave it up in much wind and take it down if it's starts to buffet around much.
The only problem Linda has in putting it up is the last step of pushing up the center top. For that she uses a stick (if I'm not around). The screens attach with plastic hooks and Velcro and are very easy to put on and take down. We leave ours attached permanently and the storage bag is large enough so that we can do that and it still fits inside easily.
Love videos This should make your camping more enjoyable. Are you going to do any more BPCR videos? I like to see people that have the same addictions as me.
Had to laugh, my wife won’t sleep in a cargo trailer but we have a 5 x 8 cargo. We bought the Clam and a lithium power brick and use the trailer to store all of our toys and 2 electric bikes. We just came back from a trip and she loved sleeping in the tent. Setup was so easy and quick and we were very comfortable with just a fan. Go figure!
I have seen reviews on other similar tents/shelteres, (different brands) and the main complaint was that because the screen is so small, to keep even the noseeums out, that it doesn't let much air flow in and it got pretty hot inside. What is your view on that issue? Thanks, Bob
I'm going to do a follow up review soon, but to answer your question it does get hot inside under direct sun when the temperature gets up during the day. Not a lot of air passes thru.
Lorraine, the Sky is made by Clam also. The new Clam Cabin looks really cool too! But any Clam screen room benefits from a heavy duty tarp over the roof, if you want actual cool shade.
Im a hat wearer have been for 50yrs , i use that exact waterproof can to water proof ALL my hats and i mean ALL my hats, ball caps, straw hats, cowboy hats even my safari water proof hat , i even spray my boots

The Clam shelter is mainly designed for backyard use and is actually water resistant, but for the purposes that a lot of us use them the added waterproofing helps. After using it a lot, I don't think I needed to use the seam sealer. It's holding up well.
I've had the Pavilion for about 2 yrs it's starting to rip where the poles connect that being said we use it at NASCAR it's where everyone ends up at in the evening

I too, wish they made this with a floor ! ! But haven’t been able to find one. I could improvise on that if I had too. BUT,..I also wish they made a panel that that worked with the front door. Because of the zipper on the front door and no awning to tuck a sidewall under (like all the other walls), I can’t really get it enclosed on all sides to protect from a decent rain.
My thoughts on this are to get one, take up to my three acres, set it up... and shoot from it with my airguns... out of sight, our of mind... the only thing left would be what to do with the sound... :D

Ours does have the support tubes and they make a big difference. You're right about the screen not letting enough air pass!

Great video! I bought a rain fly but I think it only works with the Escape, not the Venture. Absolutely love my Quick-Set Clam shelter! I've got panels for all the sides and I'm working on a way to cover the door to use it as a tent for winter camping.
This Friday I have a review update on the Clam after using it for the last 18 months or so. Mostly positive.
For the collapsing roof I was looking into a shower curtain rod that is adjustable with rubber on the ends and extends to 105 in. I wonder if it would be possible to use a strong double side tape to add velcro where needed.
Would a telescoping painters pole work?

Personally, I don't think you need to do the seam seal and if you do it can always be done later. Using our Clam right now as we speak!
I use a clam ice hut when ice fishing. After a few times, up & Down in a minute no problem.
Looks like you could put over a picnic table pretty easily.

Add the garage screen door to your trailer doors. Uses velcro strios to close and you get good breeze through your trailer.

@@tguthrie1121 this one is 82" high in the center and the door opening is less than 6 feet I think. As far as I know, it doesn't come with a second screen door. Wouldn't it be nice if they made one like you've suggested?

How is the Clam holding up? We are thinking of getting the same model. Any afterthoughts on bigger or smaller? Are you using the side panels?
The Clam is getting used regularly and is holding up fine. We use the side panels most of the time it's up for blocking wind and also for blocking the sun. We think this size is perfect for us because it goes up easily and is still short enough to stow under our bunks across the back of our trailer. Inside there's room for a 4 foot table and plenty of room for the two of us to sit in our chairs and stretch out. Hope this helps.

Stoop to set up tent, stoop to furnish the tent, stoop to get in and out of the tent, stoop to get the muddy dog out of the tent. Made the plunge last night and dropped $400 on an escape sky with floor and panels and the ability to remove the top for stargazing. It's used but I've had pretty good luck with ebay. Fair winds mate!
Having the weight and packed size specs would be helpful. I have a 10x10 King Canopy which is fairly heavy as it is made to hold up to more rain and wind loads.

We use ours a lot but take it down of the wind is above 10mph or so. But I it goes up and down really fast once you get the hang of it.

You really can't and I just keep the table and chairs against the back when it rains.

@@juliealexanderturner1935 Hi Julie. We use it all the time and it's perfect for bugs. The one drawback is that in the direct sunlight it can get hot inside. The screen material is very tight so that no-see-ums can't get through and that restricts the breeze a bit. Also, the sun comes through the translucent top. It's great to keep out bugs and rain but not so good as a shade tent. One thing I've been intending to try is to tuck some space blanket material under the top to keep the heat out. I think that would work to make it cooler inside.
You have been using it for nearly a year. Have you had trouble with it being to hot inside during the day? I have read a few reviews where it was suggested that a fan is needed because the bug netting is so tightly woven and there is no top ventilation it traps the heat. I would be interested in how hot it gets inside compared to the outside temperature. Thank you for a nice video.
It's been a real boon to our boondocking, that's for sure. When it gets hot it's still cooler inside but enough sun comes through the screen that we put one or two of the panels on to provide more shade. I haven't felt the need for a fan, but I haven't used it over about 85 degrees yet. But it would still be cooler inside. The main thing with the Clam is to take it down in any wind. You can just collapse it, only takes a few seconds, and put a weight on top to hold it in place. Of course you'll have it well staked down. Hope all this helps in your decision.
@@gonagain I think the complaints are that the screening doesn't allow the breeze to pass through which to me is the point of being outside. So how did you find it in that regard ?
We purchased our second Clam Pavillion this spring, so now we have two 12x12 models. We live on a farm and although we have central air in our house, we set our first tent up in our yard as a sort of summer cabin. Beginning in May, we had it up every day through rain and shine until early October.
One of the first problems we had was the roof collapsing in high winds or heavy rains. The company maintained that the tent wasn't designed to be used that way (?) It is just a day shelter that you would take down if such weather conditions were imminent. That sounded crazy, so searching the internet we found another person's solution using a telescoping broom handle with a toilet plunger head on the screw-on broom end, which stood on the top of a picnic table inside the tent. The roof flexes against the toilet plunger cup, which is just big enough to fit loosely around the center hub, but it won't collapse. (A sky hook would work too but they're pretty tough to find.)
That has worked very well for us. I could see that you could also do it with the handle end against the ground too, but a picnic tabletop lends itself nicely as a support. We added a woodsy touch to it by drilling a large enough hole to fit the handle end in an upright 8-inch by 12-inch cob of oak then varnishing the bark against bug infiltration.
I used Kiwi Camp Dry water repellent on the roof, walls and seams, every couple months as we didn't have a rain fly for it. The next year we did the same thing. When I put it away last fall I could see the fraying effects of UV along one or two edges on where the roof is sewn to the walls and could foresee it only getting worse this year, so I encouraged the wife to get us a new one, now that we know all the tricks.
I purchased a rain fly for the roof as the new tent came with hooks for it on each corner, and though the tent wasn't made for it, a floor that was, and fit inside. We also use a sort of 'astro-turf' for a floor covering on top of it.
It's been a very wet and stormy year here in NW Minnesota by the Canadian border, so we delayed setting up the new tent until a week ago, July 8th. We noticed immediately that it was cooler in the tent with the rainfly on; tremendous difference even though we have the tent tucked under a good shade tree for the better part of the day. The only thing was that high winds of a recent storm hit squarely on the doorside of the tent and that's when we began noticing the rainfly wanting to lift off like a parachute. It has sewn-in Velcro strips along its edges, but the tent does not so it only attaches at the corners. We reluctantly took the rainfly off until we could figure out how to remedy this problem.
The roof did not leak. I used the same kind of repellent Gonagain used, coincidentally, not having access to any Kiwi Camp Dry, but it seemed to work fine.
The Pavillion is a great tent, but as Gonagain decided rightly, it needs a little tweaking to make it even better.
Yes, it gets really hot inside. I put a heavy duty silver tarp over the whole roof. Tie down the tarp with bungees and ropes. Then it's quite comfortable inside when you need shade. And side wind panel(s) on the sunny side helps too.

The jury is still out on that but we'll find out. I don't leave it up in any wind above about 15mph just to keep the poles from poking through. It's reasonable enough in price that I'll be happy if I get 4 years out of it, but I really think it's built fairly well and will do ok.

@@janebray9392 , I can vouch for the fact that the rain doesn't do that. At least not this model (maybe the bigger ones?). It's been in two heavy downpours and was just fine. But I don't leave it up in much wind and take it down if it's starts to buffet around much.
Loved the video, but wish you would update the costs. I hit your site, & it is 300$ just for the shelter without the screens!
The only problem Linda has in putting it up is the last step of pushing up the center top. For that she uses a stick (if I'm not around). The screens attach with plastic hooks and Velcro and are very easy to put on and take down. We leave ours attached permanently and the storage bag is large enough so that we can do that and it still fits inside easily.

Had to laugh, my wife won’t sleep in a cargo trailer but we have a 5 x 8 cargo. We bought the Clam and a lithium power brick and use the trailer to store all of our toys and 2 electric bikes. We just came back from a trip and she loved sleeping in the tent. Setup was so easy and quick and we were very comfortable with just a fan. Go figure!

I have seen reviews on other similar tents/shelteres, (different brands) and the main complaint was that because the screen is so small, to keep even the noseeums out, that it doesn't let much air flow in and it got pretty hot inside. What is your view on that issue?

I'm going to do a follow up review soon, but to answer your question it does get hot inside under direct sun when the temperature gets up during the day. Not a lot of air passes thru.
We just ordered the “Sky” because it has screen on top. People say it addresses the heat problem and comes with a rain fly. I’m hoping. . .

But any Clam screen room benefits from a heavy duty tarp over the roof, if you want actual cool shade.

No, no rain fly and it does drip on you going in and out.
I attach carabiners to a shower curtain, clip it up to and across the entry side of my Clam.

I don't know why Clam can't do the seam seal and waterproofing at the factory. Why should the buyer have to do that?
The Clam shelter is mainly designed for backyard use and is actually water resistant, but for the purposes that a lot of us use them the added waterproofing helps. After using it a lot, I don't think I needed to use the seam sealer. It's holding up well.
Even some of your top of line backpacking tents are not factory sealed.
I've had the Pavilion for about 2 yrs it's starting to rip where the poles connect that being said we use it at NASCAR it's where everyone ends up at in the evening

I too, wish they made this with a floor ! ! But haven’t been able to find one. I could improvise on that if I had too. BUT,..I also wish they made a panel that that worked with the front door. Because of the zipper on the front door and no awning to tuck a sidewall under (like all the other walls), I can’t really get it enclosed on all sides to protect from a decent rain.
There are now 2 Clams with a floor! The Sky, and the Cabin.
My thoughts on this are to get one, take up to my three acres, set it up... and shoot from it with my airguns... out of sight, our of mind... the only thing left would be what to do with the sound... :D
