Did this video help you get those overtones out? Let me know here!
Helped!
Hi Donna, REALLY HELPFUL - I have been struggling to get that first overtone on Bb - and your video has helped me achieve it!
Great to hear :)
The video is helpful, thanks. Do you keep the octave key depressed when going from the trick fingering to the desired fingering? Thanks.
No octave key at all when doing overtones
Hey Donna, really interesting video, thx :) i am a beginner (playing 4 months) but i am able to get those 1st and 2nd overtone real easily. You mentioned to develop first a good embouchure, so shall i wait some months or give it a go?
Check to make sure you are not biting to get those first 2 overtones. There are other overtone-type exercises I do with my students that I also cover in Get a Killer Saxophone Tone course that prepare for this particular exercise.
hi Donna...(love your videos) .....any point in overtones once you have a strong altissimo?.....I know a couple of teachers who don't promote their practice. thanks
Yes they should be continued because it's not just for altissimo. Think of it this way, does a pro basketball player ever stop practicing free throws?
@@DonnaSchwartz good point....one more thing: if you can play overtones on alto should you be automatically able to do so on say tenor......or would you expect there to be some "adjustment" necessary? Thanks
You do have to adjust
@@DonnaSchwartz how high up the overtone hierarchy is it useful to be able to go....just the first few or way up? Also is it useful to be able to play them on Bb, B , C and C# or is it enough to just use Bb? Thanks
I kinda have trouble with the low Bb on Alto Sax! Kinda hard to get out
Have your sax checked for leaks, then check out my video with 1 tip to help you get low notes: ruclips.net/video/eOmfGstf7Hg/видео.html&lc=Ugz8ihDEEqhqEXd7Ytl4AaABAg
Bet it was just me dropping my jaw! My sax doesn't have leaks!👍
Do you have any Bari videos
No I don't, but in most of my videos, the concepts are the same
Why do we practice the overtone series?
I answered this in the beginning of the video - did you watch it?
help
I could do that military thing on trumpet in 5th grade! Sax? Not yet
I was playing that bugle call on trumpet in 5th grade too 🎺
@@DonnaSchwartz 🤣🤣🤣 awesome!! Wish I started sax then instead of 2 1/2 years ago at 52
Any time is good to start - look at it that way :)
