- The Abarth suffered a broken door handle hinge, a common problem. What should have been a straightforward fix turned into a 2 hour battle with a screw.

There is a screw in the door jam you can remove which makes the whole door handle become loose thus giving some added room when replacing the broken hinge.
Ed can you describe where that screw is? or a photo? I'm about to do mine - thanks
Daniel Clement it’s on the inside edge of the door at the rear (lock end) of the handle by the lock itself. One single torx screw.

Thanks guys, great help just replaced one. Top tip on hex bolt with tape to fit a spanner.
Great job guys! I am tackling this job today but I will mask up around the handle first and undo the torque screw on the edge of the door to loosen the handle. But I am only able to do this after seeing how you got it wrong, thanks! ;)
You should consider replacing that torn plastic/foam film/seal on the door. It is supposed to keep moisture out of your interior. Which is what you want when you're living in England with all that bad weather you guys have out there :)

Thank you for this video; the driver's side hinge on my American 500 Sport just broke off, and the local dealer wants $90 just to look at the car, so I'm going to order the repair kit from the UK and do it myself.

I am having a lot of trouble getting my door panel off via the prising away of the clips. My car is a Fiat 500 Lounge on a 63 reg and it is not coming away for some reason and yet no screws are present. Any help please?
Ashton Davenport have you sorted this now? Once you take screws out, on the video you’ll see holes in the door skin once he pulls the door card away, and that is where there are studs that need a prying tool to pop each one out and then the door card will come away.
Get a set of bit driver set and remove screw from handle gives you a bit more room.
I wanted to do this myself as I’ve got the same problem but I think it might just be easier to let someone else do it...

I think " its a 10 minute job" is the most commonly used home mechanic phrase ever. The amount of times ive been stuck for hours trying to undo something daft is ridiculous >.< I also think working on your own car brings on its own host of unforeseen challenges.....
Made that harder than it needed to be
a simple solution is lubricate the door handle mechanism/hinges with silicone spray before each time you wash your car or once a week, they break because they corrode and rust, simple spray lubricaton would prevent this! it's not a common fault on my abarth, I've never had a problem, it will save all that faffing about replacing the part and the cost aswell "simples" job done as ed china would say 👍😀

You made hard work of that. Just peel back the foam, undo the nut and then push a screwdriver through the hole where the hinge comes through and undo the bit still on the handle. Do the new one up through the hole. Literally takes a couple of minutes.
Is that as straightforward as you make it sound? Because I also thought they made that look very difficult
