@@SanityReigns-pz8qh a) I don’t know who he’s looking at for sure, b) don’t know if, as you say, no coaching is allowed outside of timeouts, though I will assume you are correct there, and c) don’t know what constitutes coaching. I haven’t seen any cameras directed toward whoever Quang is looking at but would like to know if any signaling seems to be going on, or is it just “encouragement”? Clapping, saying “You got this”, etc? And, again, don’t know if coaches are allowed to signal anything. Maybe they can. Lots of conjecture. Just wanted to comment that I’ve seen it every match I’ve watch him play. It’s so regular, it began to really stand out to me. Amazing shots from Quang against Johns, and incredible mental strength from Johns (and, of course, play) to pull out the win.

Quang Dong has so much potential, but he seems to lack the IQ or experience to read the flow of the rally, he seems to throw away the ball with unforced errors because he thinks it was the time to go for a winner when it was just not the right time. The skill/talent is there, but needs to train his mind more. I've been guilty of self-sabotaging play in Tennis, so easy to spot this a mile away. Again and again during match point Quang kept wanting to put the game away, but why he chose those times made no sense...he likely only needed a few more rallies back and forth to go for the winner and seal the deal, or Johns may have just made an error himself. Johns is much better mentally, but tad weaker in talent. This shows you how sometimes being mentally strong beats skill and talent.

"Quang has a long way to go to beat Ben" is an absolute stupid statement. Quang is only 18 and Ben started when he was roughly 24. Quang's mental game is not there yet but he'll get there quicker. Ben's edge is his mental game. He's a master of patience and consistency. But when Quang gets more experience (which will be sooner then later) he will dominate. Ben is still the number one player. But the sport is moving in Quang's favor. (unless of course, the governing league nerfs the rules to bring it back to a playground activity 😉)

Because more people are casually playing pickleball, there is less need for athleticism so people who aren’t in pristine shape can play and compete pretty well, the learning curve isn’t as high (it’s easier to be competitive at a casual level in pickleball than in tennis), the courts are smaller so you can fit more in a given area thus more people can play concurrently, need I go on? Why don’t you ask yourself why you’re trying to prevent people from playing a fun casual sport?
