This has to just be English copies, because I could’ve sworn that Anne Frank’s diary is up in the top ten most purchased books since it’s been translated into so many different languages and it’s historically significant, the Bible and Quran also being up there for the same reasons and also because of how common those religions are Edit for a few things: first, I apologize, I thought Anne Frank’s diary was up in the top ten. I misremembered something we were told in eighth grade. It’s around number 15 for copies sold and 16 for most translated books. Still pretty high up there but not top ten like I thought. I apologize for not double checking that before commenting. Second, there was someone who misunderstood something that I said and apparently it was cleared up for them but I’ll also say this here to avoid further confusion. I was not trying to say that the Bible and Quran were the same or similar books, I was trying to say that they were both very popular because they are both from huge religions with lots of people following and practicing them, and both have been translated into many languages. Islam and Christianity are very different and I’m well aware of that. Third, there’s some replies saying hateful things about Muslim people. It’s awful and it sucks that there’s still ignorant people trying to spread their ignorance and hatred, but these people are unlikely to change their beliefs based on something that a group of people in the replies to a comment online say. Save your breath, don’t bother arguing with them. Half of them are just begging for attention anyway and it will take a lot more than just a few corrections or criticisms for these people to change their ways.

Seeing as your counting it as a “series” like counting all the Harry Potter books as one book, I wonder how this figure affects more serialized stories. If I recall one piece has about the same as Harry Potter, but one could argue that the amount of volumes inflated it (though most fans are anime only and don’t buy the volumes)
The reason why lord of the ring is so low is because they don't really care so they don't keep track. They can only prove on record they sold 100 million. When ask the family about sales they said they definitely pass 600 million.
One Piece I think is 10 mil less from what I believe? Not 100% sure but it’s definitely close enough to be on this list. Only probably is that it’s a manga, a more visual novel, than a normal book. We’d have to include Batman and like Superman if we’d include One Piece.
I disagree with your claim that most one piece fans are anime only, specially considering how awful the pacing is on the anime and in some arcs the animation is just bad sometimes they don't even stick to the source material which is why toei used to get a lot of backlash e.g. doflamingo finale and grizzly magnum with caesar. If you said most consumed the manga illegally then i would agree.
Most sold and most read are two different things. I’ve read the majority of my books through the library. Also, people lend books to friends. Some people never read the books they buy. Or they could read the same book 10 times over.
I don't think that makes a difference to the list though. Both are indirect measures of popularity. If a book is bought a lot its read a lot and vice versa.
@@edojaalexander That’s a valid point, except for the fact that the list isn’t about popularity. The list is on the most read books, not the most bought or the most popular.
@@reesespieces5386 there’s no other more effective way to record how many times a book has been read. It’s give or take. Someone could buy a book and not read it once; someone else could’ve read it 10 times. Someone could borrow from a friend or the library, while someone else could own multiple editions of a book. Also there’s more interest in knowing how a book performs commercially than how many times some random person has read one book.
@@edojaalexander But the first and second place are good examples of often sold but rarely read or at least read completely books. Where I am from almost every house has one or even two Bibles, however I only know of two people, who actually read them fully. Most just read small passages or just use the Bible to pray with, but don't actually know what it says. That goes for most Christians, as they often just repeat what they were taught, without ever reading it. Same applies in many cases to Muslims and even to Jews. Also the Mao book, had to be bought in China once for political reasons, but most people didn't or couldn't even read it. Another example is Hitlers "Mein Kampf". During the Nazi regime in Germany it was mandatory to own a copy, but nobody ever read it. So it was the most sold book in Germany back them, but most definitely not the most read.

@common_ studio's unless you’re talking about the few versions made that no true Christian accepts, no it hasn’t changed. The most common (and best) translations are all from the original text. KJV is good and still very common but the English is old so not everyone likes it. ESV is really accurate, down to each word, and the one I like to use, although I like NIV too. NIV is probably the most popular recently because it is accurate (it translates more in sentences if that makes sense) but also fairly easy to read. The Bible hasn’t ever changed, unless you are talking about the different translations, which only exist because the Bible is so old that the English language has changed a lot since it was first translated, and it would be very hard to understand. Plus, a lot of people use old Bibles, so it’s really impossible to change because any small change would be noticed by millions of people who still have an old Bible. Someone at my church has a Dutch Bible that is huge from the 1600s! Obviously that didn’t change, and I think that is the version they still use today.
@@jadongrifhorst6221 No there are version with chapters added in, taken away, changed, this isn’t translation, it has been physically changed. And this is facts
@@hassanmazza1831 that doesn’t mean the origins true version hasn’t been changed; it just means there are other versions, which I would believe to be bad, as you can’t subtract or add anything to scripture. Sadly, many have done that. One reason I’m not a Catholic is that they add a few books (maybe add isn’t the right word: they include books we don’t). Also singular chapters haven’t been added unless we discovered a more complete manuscript or something like that. Keep in mind it’s really old and the Old Testament especially has a lot of copies. We can trust those copies because of how much attention was payed by the Jewish people in replicating exactly what the original manuscript said, but it is a problem as it is with all historical documents, although the Bible is probably better than most. As for the New Testament, everyone has the same New Testament. Another reason the Old Testament may differ is that Protestants use the Jewish Scriptures, Catholics think a few more books should be included. Also, the translators/historians/scholars/theologians were very careful in their selection of what was biblical canon and what was not.
@@jadongrifhorst6221 Why do the early church fathers make references and quote from the deuterocanonical books than if they were added later? These books were quoted in the Didache and early fathers like Polycarp, Irenaeus, Cyprian, Clement I, Hippolytus, Barnabas, Augustine. They were also included in the earliest listings of canon scripture. The early Christians did consider them canon.
It used to be very common for devout Christians to have multiple copies of the Bible. There's different translations, editing, annotations, formats, pocket edition, study edition, young adult edition, etc., etc.

The book that you said which was Harry Potter is not a book but a series of books, and the title said 10 books, moreover Don Quixote is a literary classic which is 400 years old.
Technically, the physical Mushafs (A book with the Quran written in it) have, like the mayjority of other books, been sold at mass after the printing press. But realistically speaking, the actual Quran itself was being recited and memorised in its entirety, from chapter 1 to 114, by Muslims since the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace. So if you include the many many Muslims who have been memorising the Quran throughout History, it may well be the most read book due to it being the most memorised one.

This has to just be English copies, because I could’ve sworn that Anne Frank’s diary is up in the top ten most purchased books since it’s been translated into so many different languages and it’s historically significant, the Bible and Quran also being up there for the same reasons and also because of how common those religions are
Edit for a few things: first, I apologize, I thought Anne Frank’s diary was up in the top ten.

One Piece has sold around 400-500 million volumes and every volume is essentially like a graphic novel with 140-200 pages

The Holy Bible is a best seller every year and has been so for hundreds of years.
But do you read it
@@jadongrifhorst6221 No there are version with chapters added in, taken away, changed, this isn’t translation, it has been physically changed.
The book that you said which was Harry Potter is not a book but a series of books, and the title said 10 books, moreover Don Quixote is a literary classic which is 400 years old.

But the Holy Bible is 2-5 billions
So basically the Bible is the most read
@@jesuschristlovesyou5428this doesnt include all the books. I doubt how is there 2 billion muslims and 1 billion qurans doesn't add up.

The Bible has been printed and sold in large numbers, but a lot of the people that have one never really read it cover to cover. They read snippets of it. They skip the uncomfortable parts. Then there are all of those that have been put in hotel rooms by Gideons. Those gather a lot of dust.
If he is doing serious then he should mention that one piece has sold over 490 million volumes don’t know if it meet the criteria though but the author is the 8th best selling author at all time
You’re not wrong mate
Read the title man, books, not manga/comic books
I think Tokyo Revengers sold more volumes now, I think it got 520 million
@@ijustwantthosecrunchies9257 no that's not true, Tokyo revengers sold more than one piece and aot last year but for all time records one piece has the most selling copies
@@prabuddhananda6677 oh okay, thanks for the clearup
Bro there is a huge difference between 2 billion and 5 billion 😂
It’s hard to really know because the Bible has been distributed far longer than any of the other books, and figuring out what is a sold copy and a given copy isn’t as easy as it sounds.
the printed version has been around for about 700 - 800 years so that range is believable
fun fact: The Bible is the best selling book of all time, but probably the least read
The most read is the quran
Just coz u guys don’t read it, doesn’t mean it isn’t the most read, why get upset over it?
@@amaddison6245 lmao it’s a fact bro not an opinion, if you read the bible good for you. i praise you
This is literally the worst take ever. Even if only half of the sold copies are read it still is read more than any other book has been sold. That’s assuming you define read as cover to cover. If you don’t, then several million people in the US gather to read it every week. If you don’t, you can still pick out the Gospel of John from the Bible which has been read more than any book in history.
Bro forgot The Pilgrim's Progress which has sold 250 million copies
Qur’an mostly is gifted cause we muslims believe that when someone is benefited from it, it would be in our good deeds in the afterlife.
Christians do the same with the bible. But not for our own reward, but for theirs. Cheers!

In the Bible, jesus remains abstinent for his entire 32 years of life...and its STILL a better love story than Twilight...
32 years of absitinence and has a platonic friend who is a prostitute lol. Jesus was the original chad.
What? The Gospels ARE the greatest love story that could possibly be written. It shows the love of God for us. All of us have sinned and since God's standard is perfection, we all deserve damnation. We deserve God's justice, but since God is also love, He came down to us in the flesh, lived a perfect sinless life, was mocked, spat upon, beaten, and nailed to a cross just so that we can be forgiven. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we can be made right with God. Through His blood we can be washed clean of sin, He took our punishment onto Himself. All we have to do, is to accept Him as our Lord and Saviour, put all our trust in Him, and repent of our sins which means to confess them to God and turn away from them.
No, it's really not.
I'm not here to get into a theology lesson with you, but the overwhelming message in the bible is;
"Love me unconditionally, do as I say without question, and dont stray, or I'll send you to eternal damnation and hellfire...oh, and dont try to understand why children and loved ones die, it's all my plan...tee hee"
Gtfo here with your message, preacher
The Bhagwat Geeta will never reach such a big no. of selling because here in India we don't sell we just give it to someone for nothing in return

I feel like Diary of a Wimpy Kid series should've been in the top 10. It was my favorite childhood series.
That's a children's book, most adults don't even know it exists. The only two children's books here are there for two reasons. Harry Potter because most adults had read it as children and then re-read it/ bought a copy for their kids when they watched the movies. The LOTR is there because it's a timeless masterpiece which both children and adults can enjoy. Every other book there is adult.

Not really. It was a part of the cultural revolution and the peasants jumped at the opportunity to learn to read.
Hold on, with a lot of these books you added up the total of books sold in the series, but that doesnt really count. Harry potter and the philosophers stone was the most sold harry potter book, with only 107 million sold last i checked.
